    I guess to answer your question in the video on whether it was worth it, I'd say yes. Now based on your review I probably won't get one myself, so its saved me a few quid, but i also enjoy reviews of things that arent just things I'd like to buy.
    I do appreciate reviews of good, indifferent or even bad products as i find them entertainimg and informative.
    So yes, i do believe it was a good investment in terms of content, albeit not for a product that I think (based on comments) many will be interested in.

    I own the covert companion with a few of the expansions which I leave in the glove box of my car, (I am not an edc type guy who would ever carry a set of picks on my person) however I would just add a few tools to this only to tighten things up a bit. I do like that this includes a “City Rake and Bogota” however leaving out the 4 pin comb pick seems really odd. I do also like the weird rakes which I believe are the same as the ones found in the Dangerfield Polaris kit (Sometimes they just work and both sides can be used.) I don’t think this was a horrible price at all and this is going to depend on the person who is using the product.

    Nice review. But I think I’d prefer the better quality of the covert companion. And it’s expandable. So unless funding is a major issue, I’d save for the better option. But had I not seen your review, I might have bought it and wound up with buyers regret. Thanks for all of your great, well considered reviews!

      retired locksmith here... i have the Covert Companion and i love it. already, i have used it a few times, the maintenance crew of my apartment building has called on me to open apartments when the tenant has changed the lock and then moved, or some other issue needs a lock picked. i wouldn't trade my CC for the world.

      This could be a good companion... um colleague... to the Covert Companion. Remove the combs, jigglers, and warded picks from the CC and use this instead. That would allow you to have both in slimmer packages. Especially if you use the CC turning tools and the new RIV pics in it. And what would cause me to say to do that instead of just getting a second set of CC handles is that this has more jigglers. So make this dedicated to bypasses while the CC is good for SPP and raking. And this has a different rake as well as a pick similar to a Peterson Gem. Neither of which are offered by CI.

      @@Unicorn161 Good point. But I’m not sure that I (personal opinion only) would want even a “colleague” tool that keeps getting loose. I’d find that aspect too frustrating. But, that’s just me.

    My dream mini set would be all hooks with one maybe two rakes I get that wouldn't have many people interested who are just looking for essentially a bypass kit. But wow that would be so damn cool! I've been picking since 2019 and I only own 1 rake and 70 or so hooks lol.

    I have a CC with the expansion packs.
    My niggle about that is the self assembly,which i know LPL says is so you can have the picks where you want them but mine come loose a lot.
    You can tigthen your tool up with a set of stripped head allen keys ,a set is about 15 quid.

      Stop overtensioning, reseting keys are harder but even cheap deadbolt cylinders are easy, i can zip a CI practice lock open with security pins in it, using a short hook or monkey paw, it takes extremely light tension like barley touching the tensioner

    New subscriber, here. I think that even as a novice/beginner myself I'd spend my money on the Covert Companion rather than this set. For pretty much every reason. You're getting a tool that you can customize to your liking, that comes with a pretty good set already and offers several expansion packs. The individual tools will stay folded. There are provisions to keep tensioners inside the tool itself rather than relying on a carry case. You can tighten the screws on the CC as needed for preferred friction. It comes with a 4-pin comb! lol, the Covert Instruments picks are well tumbled and won't irritate the user, etc. etc. And the Covert Companion, At least right this minute, is $90 vs $79 for the KSEC unit so it's not even that much more expensive. I guess if you ONLY have $79 and want to buy a tool that is just a bit worse in every measurable metric but comes with a cool case then go for the KSEC. Honestly I admit I do like the case.

    Very good review. Few people realize how much work is put into a review this thorough.
    Some pros and cons. It is a lot less then the other option in this category. One pro I can see is that it comes assembled. I spent a great deal of time putting the other one together. It isn’t what I would call easy. I like the case and the fact that you can add some tension wrenches in it.
    Finishing is not that difficult and is desirable in a lot of locks pick sets.
    I think a bit of competition between brands is good for the consumer 😀
    I see this as a good alternative that is less expensive.
    Just my two cents 😀

  • @HeAD-CRuMBs
    @HeAD-CRuMBs Před 6 měsíci +1

    Nice spectrum of tools but it's just a little too sloppy for practical use. It should have a brake on one side so the tools can only fold in and out of one side. It comes with a case and isn't functional enough to carry on a keychain so the space that the keychain eyelet takes up should've been utilized better with a removable tension wrench. Pros against cons, I wouldn't buy it. It looks like more of a headache than it's worth. That said, if it was redesigned for EDC and filled with the same range of tools, I think the price would be justified.

    What a stunningly originally designed tool! I've never seen anything like it!
    On a more serious note, anyone dumb enough to steal from a licensed attorney, yeah... They deserve what they will inevitably get. And the fact that I own a Covert Companion does not influence my opinion here. I think that while it's a nice bypass tool, it's not a good lockpicking tool (the new Riv-Pick add-on notwithstanding). The Swick is a far better alternative, which I also have.

    I live in the United States and own a covert companion. It's a great tool. I love it! I don't think this is a knockoff. I think it's just a similar product. No different than different brands of cars. It's also in the UK. I'm sure you can get a covert companion in the UK, but I bet it's much more convenient to get this. I don't understand all the hate. It's a big community. There can be more than one provider of a product. It's okay. And yes, it definitely needs a four tooth comb.

    Given the poor finish of the product, it seems way too expensive. They ruined the screws, so you cannot tighten it, but you also cannot rearrange the tools, add new tools, replace broken tools etc. Why didn't the add a few tensioning tools in the bag and leave out the carabiner? Without tensioners, the set is incomplete and cannot be fully used. Makes no sense.

  • @LadyLocks
    @LadyLocks Před 3 měsíci +2

    Yikes. This seems like a rip off tbh. The picks just fly out and it would get stuck in your pocket (or wherever) trying to pull it out, so no wonder you'd have to keep it in a case. But if I'm keeping picks in a case, I might as well use my regular picks. I wouldn't want to have to hold it like that to pick with it either. The price is absolutely outrageous and if I was spending the money I'd get the Covert Companion. There is no way I would ever pay that much for this thing, plus I think it's way too close to the Covert Companion to ever give them my money. I do not think it's cool in locksport for places to completely knock off an original product like this, (and they are so obvious about it too .. well, on everything except the quality) and I wouldn't give them my money just for that reason alone.
