    When you get to the person's place where the tubular lock bars the entry and the man says,"Why did you bring me a bundle of brass flower stems?....lol.........looks so complicated in comparison to the next generation. It does look really cool though...Thank you for sharing this video and information. I believe I remember when that one was the only tubular pick available and it was over $500 if I remember correctly..

    Wow tubular lockpicks have come a long way! The newer picks from southard , sparrows and similar companies are way less complicated and way faster and easier to use and about 18 times cheaper

      Granted they can’t open security pins or different spring rates on tubular locks…. when used the standard way. You can manually pick pins with most of those tools though with some practice just the same…. So your point still stands and I fully agree. This was Peterson taking advantage of the market before it was as well versed as it is now.

    That is a gorgeous tool and definitely one that locksmiths should have if they are dealing with a lot of tubular locks. Very interesting demo, I love seeing professional tools even if I wouldn't buy it, the more you know the better. Thanks!

    Cool tool! Considering the safety of tubular locks, there should be really little use for such locks but for a pro that may find himself or herself on the field with the need to open existing tubular locks, this definitely makes sense.

    I have a cheap chinese version that are 3 small tools for the different diameter size for the different locks, similarto the 3 set you have. Once you get the lock to turn, you can't really lock the little fingures in place. I got 2 of my 3 candy dispensers open, but one it too tight. I remember when I closed it with the key. I was thinking, this is tight enough, but then I turned it a little more. Lost the keys, but the one unopened one is the same as one of the othere two. So if I get a new key made for the two opened locks, I should be able to open the last one with the proper key.

    Great video and I enjoy your channel. I just started this hobby and have been stuck on the 5-pin SC1 locks.
    Could you direct me to one of your videos or could you do a vid on which picks seem to work on these keyways and the angle to approach the pins? Seems TOK tension and medium hook angled from the left, but I'm struggling...lol.
    I'm subscribed on our family content channel so this is my newest sub on here..thanks again for all your content!!

    They need to come up with a 10 pin version, since it seems like every lock I see these days has 10 pins in it. Most things seem happy to self impression with the cheaper tools, but I suppose it can’t hurt to have the big guns waiting as backup, for when the cheap tools won’t cut it… 😎

    So this is a flashlight where you can see the photons of light exiting and their direction of travel? Pretty cool...
    It'd be better if there was a center "locking knob" that turns connected gears to lock all probes at once. (That's patented, Peterson. Don't steal my ideas.)😮😮😮

    This would be very helpful, especially on old candy machines, pinball machines, pop machines, etc. If the quality is good and you treat it right, it should pay for itself.

    Interesting that the technology originally had you index all the pins individually rather than just pushing against and rotating the core. The technology truly has advanced.

      Most don't. It's cheaper and easier to install a new lock with key once you get the old one open. Even re-pinning in the field hardly ever happens now. Time is money in any business, and whatever works fastest is usually what you do, plus you make a bit of money by selling the new lock.

    Is the standard Southord Tubular pick not better as this tool looks big, bulky and a lot more messing around with?

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Nothing g wrong with the SouthOrd, but it can’t open as many locks with its limited tips. A lot cheaper though!

    Was asked by the landlord of my local pub if I could open up the pool table for him as the keys were stolen. This would have made it much easier! 😀

    • @penfold7800
      @penfold7800 Před 5 měsíci

      Pool table locks for the ball chute tend to be standardised, so easy enough to get a spare key from the table supplier. Inside the table, there is usually a fixed steel money box that has a different lock on it which isn't a standardised lock.

    I'll bet it CAN'T pick a CompX National KeSet tubular lock. The KeSet has NO tension notch, AT ALL. No way to tension, no way to pick it. I could mail you one, bet you can't get it. Also you can't gut it without cutting into it, thus destroying the lock. Lmk if you accept the challenge. Love your videos.

    • @P_RO_
      @P_RO_ Před 6 měsíci

      Haven't seen one of those, but if the central pin turns with the key, you might super-glue a tensioner there then SPP.

  • @penfold7800
    @penfold7800 Před 5 měsíci

    Seems very overkill, and a bit unwieldly to be honest. But it does seem to be more versatile than the modern ones.
