Bikepacking Tip - Stronger Handlebar Extension Mount

- Hi all,
I've been interested to try one of these Handlebar accessory mounts for a while but was concerned the 2 clamps would not provide enough support to mount a small drybag for bikepacking purposes. So I did the "Basic" thing and bought 2 extenders, and used all 4 clamps to mount the extender bar. Used in conjunction with a drybag and 3 Versa/Ski straps and a tie off to the stem and you have a perfectly stable and strong setup. You can also use this mount for your bikepacking specific handlebar bags, although the bag I have personally just feels too big for my bike and affects shifting, so I will use simple drybags going forward.
Hope this helps someone who was in a similar dilemma!

Thanks mate! I did grab a 3rd strap and it works great, Bunnings also has some heavy duty velcro loops which I used to attach the middle strap to the stemtube, works exactly as hoped. Thanks for watching!

I've thought it might be sweet to combine two of these as an upper/lower (kinda V shape)
So it would give the dry bag a bit more stability/structure
that is a great idea and I think it would work quite well. if you try it let me know how it goes! cheers

Mate I love that cool jazz intro music. My 90 year old dad was a jazz musician here in Melbourne. I'm glad I have the ear for it and Play a bit myself. Anyway love the videos as well by the way. Also I've used a pretty solid Aero bar at the front and strapped the bag north south instead of east west. Works like a charm.

@@BasicStealthcamping dad put me on stage aged 8 in st Kilda Fitzroy street. I started on drums aged 5. Later in life I liked hearing banjo in traditional jazz bands and taught myself that at 13 then later guitar. My dad's younger brother played in a folk band with Judith durum before the seekers. He also played in a band with Shirley Bassey over in England and when she toured Australia. He was a founding member of Galapagos duck. I've also played blues harps in a gritty blues band. Nowadays I don't go out at night any more. I love to play guitar to backing tracks here at home. It's like meditation lol

@@BasicStealthcamping anyway he's pretty old and crook now. As you would guess he knocked himself around a bit with all the late nights and drinking smoking partying. Anyway I'm looking after him and that takes up 8 tens of my life at the moment. So seeing your adventures and Rob's stealth camping here in Melbourne really keeps me happy.

Just bought a couple of 10cm ones to mount two plce rocket pouches to the bars, definitely buying more now. 🤘
Found a stemplate mounted version so that'll be in the middle and I'll use the two shorties out by the lever end.

Velcro tape in the middle mate, it's flexible enough to strap around the head stem and it's reuseable

Hi mate great video. Do you use a 40cm or 60cm strap from Bunnings? Ill be using this hak on my set up . a dry bag and versa straps to carry my tent is far more cost effective then buying a bandle bar bag.
hey thanks mate! i used the 60cm strap, the 40cm i have tried but found it doesnt really have the circumfrence needed for a bag, but they are good for lashing something small onto your top tube or down tube if need be, cheers

thanks mate. I believe I was looking for "handlebar extender" or something like that, lots of options should show on ebay/Amazon. Have used this quite a lot now and can confirm its a good solid setup
how are the grunt versa straps going? got a couple for dirt bike today
oh nice! yeah mate they last ages, mine are still fine although probably only get use once a month or so. the good thing is they are cheap so if you need carry a spare or 2 on the off chance something happens. cheers!
