    Great video. May I suggest not using the wooden hand made thing you used before the bullfloat. What you’re using is essentially a jitterbug, which brings more cream up to the surface, amazing for finishing but the stones will then drop below the surface and then you might not get an even wash later.
    Instead of doing that, wood float or bullfloat one extra time. There were some trowel marks left even after the rinse. You can eliminate those by going over it one extra time and not doing the jitterbug 👍🏽

    • @thedustybuilder
      @thedustybuilder  Před 11 měsíci

      I appreciate the tip! I struggle with having lots of 'holes' after we screed that do not get closed up after we bull float........exposed aggregate is so counter intuitive to how I learned to finish concrete! I'm always learning, thanks again.

    One last thing and crucial step you missed my friend was washing the concrete with muriatic acid. When concrete cures it exceeds those white mineral deposits. The acid will clean that all up, then you can seal for a beautiful finish.

    • @thedustybuilder
      @thedustybuilder  Před 18 dny

      @@AlMai222 Thank you…… does it also darken the color?

    • @AlMai222
      @AlMai222 Před 17 dny +1

      @@thedustybuilder Yes it does. Because it takes away the whiteness of the concrete, revealing the dark rocks. Use 4:1 water to muriatic acid ratio or slightly stronger, you should hear it sizzle a little bit, and just scrub around with a hard brush the day you come to cut then rinse off.
      It also slightly etches the concrete and creates a better long lasting bond for the sealer, all the companies do it

    is there a reason why you cut joints the next day instead of using a joint tool while the concrete is still wet? Just curious as I am looking to do something similar to this for a small walkway.

    • @thedustybuilder
      @thedustybuilder  Před 6 měsíci +2

      Yeah, there is just so much going on during the pour. I don’t take the chance screwing up wet control joints, it’s actually not too bad cutting the concrete with the saw

    What does the retarder do will it still work without a retarder?

    • @thedustybuilder
      @thedustybuilder  Před rokem +1

      It prevents the top layer from curing so you can wash the cream away to 'expose the aggregate'. I'm sure it can be done without the retarder.......but if you wanted to save money , just using Coke has proven to work just as well.
