Disproven! The Coriolis Effect does not make the water drain out a sink anti-clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and clockwise in the Southern.

Huge thanks to Trent Burton who filmed the video in London, Simon Wright who filmed the Sydney footage and Jen Rogers who was the on-site runner and statistical consultant. Trent then nearly died trying to do the edit.
The sink was donated to a recycling centre in Sydney. It was last seen by the front door of Reverse Garbage (Addison Road, Marrickville, NSW). If anyone wants to buy the sink, it may still be there! If anyone checks on the sink let me know if you find it or not. Last known photo of the sink:

Ae Norist It might be true. Otherwise he might have tried to explain the geometry of a sink to make it more about the mathematics. It might have also been to proove to himself that he can top the results of the veritasium and smartereveryday collab. But you never know exactly, what matt parker thought to himself before travelling with a sink. Anyways, it is a great effort, that I can appreciate.

At around 4:23 you can clearly see the Australian side Matt adjust his ear piece, it would be completely impossible without it, and even with it, what a massive video sync this is!!

And also, there is 9 hours time difference between London and Sydney. Considering that the Big Ben shows 15:35 at the beginning, it should be about midnight in Sydney. As Sydney is north from the Antarctic Circle, this video should be impossible.

And he even had a "small plug" for his channel (for those of us committed enough to watch the end screen)!
Exactly when Matt brought in the other Matt my video flipped upside down. I thought this was a cheap joke, but when it had still not switched back after a minute, I realized that lying in bed with your phone to your side can sometimes lead to things like this.
Absolutely adore the self-interaction and the sheer effort that went into planning, scripting, and editing that together.

If you hadn't noticed, we hit peak flat earth a couple of months ago. I don't see many flat earth comments, and when I do it's usually the mockers, not the believers.

Well, I was to London once and even up close it looks bad. Also lots of garbage floating in there.
The Thames used to be used for sewage, now, however it is cleaner than its ever been, I want to say it's drinkable but I don't have the facts behind that

So many puns and the banter while talking to yourself messes substantially with my head. I absolutely must see a making of/behind the scenes of working this one out :)
Scripting, rehearsals, timing.
The only unpredictable result in this video was the final "pouring from the middle" experiment, where the discussion about the result was very small, since past Matt couldn't know what future Matt got. The rest of this was most likely closely timed during multiple attempts at conducting this experiment and rehearsing the lines. It is still super impressive though. A lot of work, time, and effort went into this, and the execution is, as far as I could tell, flawless.

After this, I went and rewatch a video of the same experiment used to amuse the tourist visiting Equador. Now I realised that the water is poured with the adecuate initial angular mometum depending on which side of the equator they are in. (srr bad english and srr almost a year late)

At the start, about 3 seconds in I was thinking of the Veritasium and Smarter Every Day videos, and Ironically when I came to New Zealand in 1988 one of the first things my father did was fill up the bathtub with water, leave it to sit for 2 days, pour in some food colouring and watch it drain out. Seemed really weird to me but he was quite excited. Must be a Parker thing...

Nice work! Speaking of the Coriolis effect, I was kind of curious if you could measure the circumference of the earth given the rotation rate in Derek and Destin's videos.
I just realized: the coriolis effect works in the exact same direction on relative to the equator.
It's just a matter of which side you view it from.
British Matt is flushing the water North- to South Pole whilst Australian Matt is flushing the water South to North pole. .

I call shenanigans, theres a cut back and forwards while pouring, that has been used to sink (sic!) up the final declarations perfectly.
The pre-production work is the real star here. Draining water is a very chaotic process, filming less so.

I am very close to the equator. Permanently attached sink. I let the water settle then drain. Seems to rotate however it pleases.

In the US, sometimes you have mixer taps, sometimes separate. I prefer mixers.
I'm from Canada, I've never seen separate hot/cold taps. I don't really get why. I even seen Tom Scott's explanation on it, and I still don't see why they would need to now, other than tradition.

Britain used to make homes with hot water tanks to store hot water, but they were usually left open to the air, so things could end up inside the tanks. The two taps separate water from the mains, and water from the tank, so you don't get ill by drinking the hot water with potentially rats/mice/whatever can get in there, in there.
