    Id like to mention just in case people panic or whatnot, depending on the size of the shrink it can take much longer than a second or two ;) Dont worry and just wait.

    What would we need such partition ? If I have to reinstall Windows, would it keep the other partitions untouched ? Is it a good idea to install all programs on a separate partition, so as not to loose them if one day I need to do a fresh Win install ?

      @primeninja2357 Před 9 lety

    • @dino130395
      @dino130395 Před 9 lety +1

      Prime Ninja I really hope you're trolling. If you're not, then it's 8192 MB, because 1 GB is NOT 1000 MB but rather 1024 MB. That's a fact. IF we were measuring in Gbits and Mbits then 1 Gbit = 1000 Mbit, but were not. 1 byte is 8 bits.

    • @primeninja2357
      @primeninja2357 Před 9 lety +1

      Dino Prašo You are obviously the one who is trolling. Please get your facts straight next time you call something a fact. 1 GB is 1000 MB, or E9 Bytes, exactly 1 Gigaton is E9 tons. What you are referring to is called Gibibyte, which is abbreviated by GiB.
      This probably got a common misconception, because Windows Explorer shows file sizes in GiB, but shows the unit GB. You most probably also are an American, because the misconception is even more likely to happen if you are not used to the consistent metric system: Giga always means E9 times the unit suffix, GiB means 2^30. I hope this clears things up for you, because you sounded very serious.

It ended up that I didn't need it, so I went to reverse it following the reversal directions again to the T watching the video numerous times both ways. It is now giving me an error "There is not enough space available on the disk(s) to complete this operation". Can someone advise what may be wrong? What can I do? I've tried a few other tools for partitioning and the can't even find the unallocated space but still read my drive as the size the main partition is.

    Is partitioning a way of backing up a drive for recovery?
    If so, how does one recover a bricked hard drive from a partition?

    Hi,I'v just built a pc from bits (AsRock Ab350m m/board,4th Sata Seagate HDD, 16gb, Win Pro 64bit etc) all works fine. BUT I can only partition about 2tb! How do I partition the remainder? Seagate disk extender does not work! Motherboard is "UEFI" but as I say, I cannot find out how to extend or expand my HDD. I have a 500GB C: drive. Thanks for any help in advance!!

      Hi Curtis. Sorry yes I ment 2tb and above. Turns out that there is something that needs to be done for drives above 2tb, see reply from Seagate to me;
      Thank you for contacting Seagate Support.
      We regret the inconvenience caused. We understand that you would like to use the entire drive capacity. We will certainly assist you with the issue.
      This is to inform you that if your hard drive is formatted in MBR partition, then the maximum capacity that an MBR partition supports only 2 TB. Alternatively, as you are going to use this hard drive as a secondary so you can format the drive in GPT partition which will help you use the entire capacity of the hard drive.
      In this instance, we suggest that you perform Diskpart the hard drive and initialize in GPT partition which helps to use the entire capacity of the drive. Please follow the instructions below for performing Disk Part operation.
      Note: As an advisory statement, please understand that deleting, erasing, formatting, or partitioning your drive will permanently destroy your important data (pictures, videos, music, and documents), which Seagate cannot attempt to recover without cost to you.
      Please check the number of the disk the drive is listed as in disk management.
      To access Disk Management, go to your Start menu, right-click on My Computer, go to Manage, and then from the left-hand menu choose Disk Management. (For Windows 8, 8.1, and 10 you can simply right-click on the start button and directly choose Disk Management.)
      Within Disk Management, this drive should show in your list of disks in the lower portion of Disk Management (Disk 0, 1, 2, etc.). Take note of the disk number for the drive. You will need it shortly. You can leave Disk Management open because we are going to come back to it in a moment.
      1) Go to a DOS command line:
      -In Windows 10/8.1/8/7/Vista, click the Windows icon and then type cmd in the search field and press Enter.
      -In Windows XP, click the Start menu, select Run, then type cmd and press Enter.
      2) In the command line, type:
      DiskPart
      Then, press Enter.
      3) Figure out which disk you want to erase - it will be identified with a number, this is the same number I had you look up in disk management.
      Then type:
      Select disk X
      “X” is the number of the disk you want to erase. This will set the focus to the specified drive.
      For example:
      Select disk 2
      4) Type: Clean. Then, press Enter to erase the disk.
      5) Type: convert gpt. This will convert the partition scheme to GPT
      6) Go back to Disk Management. You should see that the disk is "Unallocated" now.
      Right-click on "Not initialized" and choose "Initialize Disk" and select "GPT" partition while initializing the hard drive.
      Then, the drive should be ready to partition and format.
      7) Now right-click on the "Unallocated" area.
      Select "New Simple Volume or New Partition".
      Agree with everything until you see this:
      Default
      NTFS
      New Volume = (name the drive whatever you like)
      Then put a checkmark in the box "Perform a quick format".
      Select Apply or Start.
      When the drive is ready for use, it will say NTFS - Healthy.
      We hope the above information is helpful to resolve the issue. Please reply to this email if you require further assistance.
      Regards,
      Seagate Support
