- Homes vacated by Protestant families on the mainly catholic Lenadoon estate became a flash point for violence and protest when Catholic families tried to occupy the newly vacated homes.
The Local government stated that these homes could only be occupied on the approval of the army and only if it did not disrupt the peace in the area. The Protestant militant group the UDA stated that Catholics should not be allowed into vacated homes, resulting in the Army telling the Catholics to wait. Peter taylors documentarys on the " troubles" over the years are invaluable for anyone wanting to get an understanding of what went on and he risked personal injury and more. There were some people in the provisional ira who believed that he was a plant from one of the many intelligence groups working against them
Quite an interesting documentary.
My Christ, Belfast women are strong.
So sad, people can be so vile to each other.
