Please watch the rest of this series, the tutorial is excellent for beginners and worth watching. He does an amazing job explaining everything in a concise and clear way without digressing or repeating information (a few times, but it is organic and helpful too)! He goes all the way to turn 92 by the end of the tutorial series, but jumps from time to time to speed things up.
I was about to say that repeating things isn't necessarily a bad thing, unless the thing being repeated is wrong, unfortunately a LOT of wrong stuff is put out there nowadays!
Hell, people even STILL claim that in Minecraft sugar cane grows faster on sand, Mojang(the creators of the game) have said this is FALSE as have many, many, many streamers! I don't understand why people seem to grasp to false information even when the truth is slapping them in the face!
Protip: Had you settled your city on the diamond, you'd immediately have access to that luxury resource without having to improve the tile. This is very smart, and worth taking the time to get to that tile to do, if it's one turn away.
Thx, I always thought the resource just vanishes lol
wow great tip!
He probably didnt do it because of this video being a tutorial
And by crossing a river(into a rainforest hex no less) your settler ends it's turn
Skipping the first turn to found your first city, and all the delays that entails, is a bold move...

@@bas8792 It was very entretaining the first 3 matches. It got old really fast. However, I'm not a big fan of board-like games. If you are into that, this is a game for you definitely.
A few months ago I got Civ6 and had never played any Civ game or similar before, so I was the noobest noob you can be. This tutorial was just PERFECT for me! Thanks to this I really got into the game and understood how it works! Since then I did many playthroughs and am still addicted to this game. XD

Quill - you are my first stop whenever learning a new strategy game like this. I have never tried a Civ game in all my years gaming (30+ years). Yeah, I know, I'm living under a rock. So my first Civ experience is Civ6. I just want to say THANKS for putting this content out on YT. As I consume this some 5 years later, the content is a godsend! Thanks quill!!
Who else is here because the tutorial in game sucks hard?
Ayyyy
I somehow broke the tutorial.
I built the library before it wanted me to build it and I got hardlocked into a loop of it telling me BUILD A LIBRARY, that I couldnt build cause it was already there.
what tutorial? i didn't get one and i have never played any of these games.
tutorial was okay, but sometimes it was like "lol do this 'cause it's cool", like the monument, I was told to make it just as an example of a building to make, but it didn't explain how it gives me culture and what culture does.
I didn't really listen to the tutorial I just played the game
This video legitimately felt like a college lecture lol. I’m definitely going to check out the other videos. I’m starting to understand this game better.

Thank you so much for this. This is a much better "tutorial" than what the game gives us. I loved the concept of the game was getting so frustrated with not understanding things. The entire series you provided is excellent.
Even though I figured the game out on my own, I still watched this tutorial after and I must say I love it so much, it's very beginner friendly and Quill does an amazing job explaining things to someone who is completely new to the series. "It's more so it's probably better"- love it :D
First days into my first ever installment of the Civ series and happily plodding along with the tutorials as they unravel here. Thank you so much for making these tutorials, they are great!
I know it can feel very overwhelming at first but it's equally rewarding when you have played a few games.
Don't worry too much on what is best to research first in the beginning. You'll learn what suits your playstyle and your starting condition after a while.

@@caveresch Work hard to update all tiles and establish trade routes internally to connecting as many of your own cities together as possible to help your military move through efficiently. Establish a religion and spread it like the coronavirus, establish a Theocracy government and set up to where you can use your faith to purchase military units and some government buildings. That will free up your cash to spend on tiles to expand your borders and give you some breathing room. Try to get your Capitol close to a mountain range, keep it central to your other cities, set it up like a spider web with each road going out to every city from the Capitol.

Fantastic video. Just bought my first Civ game on Steam, and I love how you're explaining everything and keeping it simple and straightforward.
I really like the speaker's vocal tone. Very welcoming, like a very knowledgeable friend taking you through the game in a logical fashion. Much better then the in-game Advisor and hidden game menues, that's for sure! Thank you for creating this. I'm looking forward to watching the rest of the series.

Tutorial was insanely helpful as someone brand new to the game. Thanks brother, VERY well done series!
I'm new to the series as a whole
This is so helpful! I have been trying to figure out how to play. I did the tutorial in game….but you still need a base level of understanding. I really appreciate how clear you are… and the explanation and recommendations on how to start. It really helps to understand the symbols and the terminology so you can make an informed decision. I wish I had found this at the beginning…can’t recommend enough! Thanks for taking the time…think I will love this game now I get more about how it works. Off to watch your other tutorials now!
I consider myself pretty intermediate at the Civilization games as I have several hundred hours in Civ 5 and Civ 6, so I'm not necessarily learning anything new from this series. I am, however, learning how to see the game from a beginner's perspective since I kinda forgot what it's like.
You are incredible at explaining every detail and mechanic that a player needs to know! You're very concise and informative and I don't feel like you don't linger on any one point longer than needed. I am definitely going to send this series to a friend that wants to play Civ with me (if I don't have the time to walk them through everything you did here).
I know this was made almost six years ago, but keep up the amazing work! I'm also interested in perusing your other content, so I'm excited to see what's in store for me!
Thanks Quill you did a great job through the 6 episodes . I enjoyed your commentary. You took a game that was a bit overwhelming and made it easy and fun to play.
Fantastic tutorial, man! I pretty much dove straight into getting my ass handed to me by AI after playing through the in-game tutorial but still watched this whole thing just to make sure I didn't miss anything, and wow, it's really clear you really took the time to think this through from the actual perspective of a new player, taking care not to overwhelm us with too much information at once. You make a great teacher!
100% agree. I wish more tutorials were like this. Doesn't matter the subject matter.
Thanks for these tutorials mate, they are very clearly thought out, well presented and reflect the complexity of civ vi
Just got this on the switch and finding this very helpful !! Thank you !!
This is so intricate it feels like an online lecture lol great tutorial! I'd also suggest that beginners pick Russia and get those extra starting tiles for better yields and save on early gold expenditure for tiles. Also, bear in mind with difficulty King and above, barbarians will have a go at you soon after you settle so have good defense if you don't want to rebuild your stuff
Great video. First time trying a Sim game since Sim City a hundred years ago. After starting the game and staring at a screen for a few minutes, I went in search of a beginner's tutorial, none of which were for true beginners. All the game interface has changed in the last 5 years, this was immensely helpful.
Your delivery and approach to teaching is actually very impressive. Very helpful video 🤙
I’m so excited (I don’t have a pc )
It’s coming to the switch next month I can’t wait I played it at my friends house and I loved it ...
This tutorial is great, I really enjoy your style. I like how you address a ton of things but do not overexplain. You saying "we don't know what that is, but it's more, so it's probably better" is great because it stresses that I do not need to understand many things yet :)
I didn’t know it was possible to be this good at explaining something
Thank you very much. I got this game a few days ago. I played the tutorial, and didn't understand the game at all. I was about to give up on it, but then i found your tutorial. Now i think this game is super fun.
90 seconds in and you've basically already covered my 'first ever Civ game' mistake. Learning happened - took for ever :D
Very well done! I've been playing Civilization since the first one - but HATE reading directions. Your video is perfect - I learned LOTS and I appreciate it.
My friend suggested this game to me but I struggled a lot with it, but with your help and a little motivation to keep playing, I'm not too bad at it now, so thank you!!
Can't thank you enough for this. Even with the tutorial, there still so much to wrap my head around.
THANK YOU!
Bro appreciate this so much ! Just now learning about this series, looking to pick it up on PS4 and the Switch.
I hope to pick up Civ 6 for Christmas, so thanks for doing this. I can be better prepared when I start playing!

And a very short one ;).
I just did
I am so glad to have come across this! I found you through your Beginner series for Rimworld which helped me alot with that game. I just picked up Civ 6 on my PS5 because it was on sale and I had been wanting to try a Civ game for awhile now
I used to play the very first Civilization I, I loved it, played it for hours with an old friend. Then I stop playing (life got in the way) and some years back got into Age of Empires because I liked the real-time aspect better. I was always meaning to get back to the Civilization franchise, and finally about 30 years later I bought Civilization VI, but it was just overwhelming to learn. This tutorial is exactly what I needed. So I just wanted to say THANK YOU for your time making this video. -OldTimerCivPlayer
Literally the exact same person. I absolutely loved the first one and would probably prefer it over this new one. Sometimes overly complicated is not more fun. I’m going through my first play thru right now and it’s incredibly frustrating and complicated therefore not fun.
And then I come here to learn but this guy’s mouth noises are so nasty that I think I’m just going to give up and go back to ghost of Tsushima new game plus.
Thank you for this video! I just got Civ 6 for the Switch and I felt really lost, but this video helped a lot. Can't wait to get to part 2.

I just picked this up on ps4 cuz of henry zebrowski kept talking about it on- last podcast on the left. An I’m loving it
Quill18 is great at explaining game mechanics. Very well made series!
I've always been curious about this game and decided to see what it was about. After watching you teach for about 5 minutes I knew I had to buy the game, and now I can't wait for it to finish downloading :)
MUCH better than the in-game tutorial. Good job.
Thank you for this. I started on PS4, and this is my first Civ game. The in-game tutorial blows so much. The guide woman rarely speaks, and when she does, it's only to tell me what I just did. I basically blundered through my first game randomly figuring out how to do stuff. It took me fifteen turns just to figure out that I had to build my capital with my initial Settler.
Always wanted to jump into Civ ever since was massive fan of some similar games when very young and have always appealed. Epic tipped me into it and this video sounds fantastic from the bits I have skimmed through. You present very well in your explanations and I will be returning to watch the full video once I install.
Thanks again, perhaps a new sub incoming :D
you are really amazing, you are just proficient in every single game i just finished your tutorial for hearts of iron and now coming to learn this game
thanks man, you are so great
I actually feel the exact opposite is true for map size. The bigger the map, the easier it gets because the more likely it is for you get your own little corner of the map where no one bothers you. Just like how more AI civs means more allies and friends - weaker civs that have fallen behind are a lot more likely to ally with you.
Dude, you're a natural teacher... This is one of the best tutorials I've seen, period.
