- Sony absolutely blew us away @AudioAdvice Live 2023 with their 11CH demo. This system featured 11 Q series speakers from KEF along with 5 of their subs. When we listened to the Hans Zimmer "Remember" from the Lion King demo, it absolutely transported us into the concert venue. Full immersion was experienced and despite the center channel being below the screen, it felt as if the dialogue was lifted to the middle of the screen where it should be. The Sony 360 spatial processing really seemed to do its job as advertised. The 7000ES Projector looked fantastic with MADVR and the 2.35:1 screen and the Row One seats were among the most comfortable we've experienced. Overall this was among our favorite demo rooms @AudioAdvice Live.

Love it! Great video! Thanks for joining us again this year 😀
It's time for a full measurement review on these Sony receivers. Many people on the AVR forum are reporting bugs like buzzing, pops and reboots from these receivers however users still seem to say its surround results are phenomenal. Hopefully Audioholics will take a deep dive into what's going on here with a complete review soon.
It's in the works
Yeah I would love to see these receivers bench tested the great reviews on their surround sound processing from users has got me so curious
@@danzilla31stompinontokyo36 I am not one to care much about measurements. In end it will be a cost conscious model with a slightly compromised amp. The anthem 114 is more audiophile grade at twice the price. The selling point is spatial mapping in a small room. - Hans Zimmer on Shape of Water was amazing too
Been 3 months. Link?@@Audioholics
I want to know how it compares to Dirac Live. Obviously more tuning with Dirac but how do they compare in terms of results.
I love my Sony ES 7000. I run all 13 channels off of 2 outlaw power amplifiers. I had no problems with it.
The recording and mixing on that Live in Prague bluray is insanely good. Watching it in a dark room, on a giant screen is the closest you can come to feeling like you're in a crowd from a 2D experience. In reality it probably sounds better than being there. That Spiderman- Electro Suit song sounds insane in Atmos.
I wish Sony was more public about all their tech developments that go on in Japan. They have world class engineers, researchers, and developers but unlike Trinnov, Dirac, Harman, etc they never really publish all their findings.
The 7000 ES is amazing!
Agree, this was one of the best demos. I also really enjoyed the Monitor Audio Cinergy demo
Love this! I use Kef and sony! Actually bought an Onkyo RZ-50 last year. Thought sony was done with AV receievers. Have these same speakers, Q750, Q650, and Q150
what sony receiver are u using i have an rz50 got 60 days to return it, how does the sony compare movies music is it bugging out any,? ty
I definitely want to more info on this receiver. Did Sony daisy chain the subs?
Thanks for the video. Can you please note or add as part of your system description the max wattage with all channels driven? This metric helps level set different models and different manufacturers. Not the only metric to consider, but helpful when determining system power supply.
We measured 100wpc x 7ch driven on the 7000 model.
Yeah man Kef Q series are always awesome for HT. I've never seen such a big Kef based system like that, very cool.
That was a cool demo and it was cool to meet Gene, Shane and Don Dunn
if sony would come out with a 9.4.6 channel receiver next under 4k I would buy it in a heart beat. I know dirac live is the room cal everyone is in love with right now but the sony calibration seems to be a decent competitor.
Honest question.. why would you like 9 ear level channels when thr vast majority of content is mastered on a 7 channel "bed".
I have a kef q series system and was thinking of upgrading from a 1080 to this because it did match well with the Q series however changed to a marantz cinema 40 at the last minute because it only has one independent sub out. I don't have the skill to use a mini DSP and for me only having one sub out was a deal breaker. Not sure I made the right choice. The marantz is ok and works pretty flawlessly but also doesn't blow me away.
How are they getting 5 subwoofers out of two inputs? What other equipment is used?
I needed to ask if Sony TA-AN1000(UK version) would be able to drive a 5.1 Klipsch reference speakers setup easily without causing clipping or any other power issues? I am looking to get Klipsch 2 pairs of R50M, 1 X R50C, and 1X R121 subwoofer. I'm a beginner starting out in this Home theatre world so some guidance/advice would be great.
Subscribed as well, thanks
You should be able to answer that yourself by looking at the specs. Looking at the spec sheet can give you a pretty darn good idea how a receiver will drive a loud speaker. Klipsch speakers are using pretty sensitive so they should be able to be driven by just about anything. Then you need to consider how loud you like to listen to music or movies. You really only need a lot of power if you play it loud. Usually people on actually use no more than 20 watts to power one speaker. Power ratings can be very misleading. Sensitivity is more important and telling of how a system will perform. If it’s more sensitive then it will require less power. You also can’t just look at the physical size of the speaker and assume you will need more power.
But yes, to answer your question, the Ta-AN1000 should do just fine in a small to medium sized room.
Gene, can two subwoofers facing each other be optimal for one person in a small rectangular room? Maybe I could construct a channel In between to partially obstruct and push both out forwards in a concentrated manner?
i run something like this. i have the subs put out of phase, so both push/pull on an air volume instead of squeezing and stretching.
i basicly sit in a bass piston this way, while in a 32m³ room.
the small back sub is lifted, so the air collumn moves through me instead of on the floor.
as soon as i move from the connecting line, the bass notably drops. good for nearfield listening & keeping neighbors happy.
Please, please, please, when are we going to get these in the UK. I’ve been waiting nearly a year now with cash out to one side. Any information very much appreciated.
I finally had a chance to listen to a Sony 7000ES AvR without any preamping and basically zero acoustic treatment to the space… it made me really jealous lol the Sony 3D spatial mapping/Room correction was truly shocking!
I never thought I’d seriously consider a Sony, but I’m definitely looking to get one with my next upgrade. Another benefit of Sony is the extreme user friendly software.
I have a poor room shape that puts me in a square room. Adjusting the room correction with my Onkyo RZ50 just hasn’t been good enough. I have front sound stage preamp with some rather decent acoustic treatment… anyways long story short, the new Sonys are excellent! Haha great videos, thanks for sharing!
I am such a huge Sony Enthuist
Espically their ole skool integrated amps and Amps VFET .
Sony is a powerhouse when they
Want to be -those ole skool 7x Series where amazing !
You know what i am talking about Gene !!! But they did come out with the 40th A.E. edtion Vfet amp i think with 24 output stage Vfet transitors its insane ! The TA-N7 is?nice also at 143 pounds for 2 channel lol but the 40th AE is even bigger ' I can hear Sony and Kef Pairing up good Sony always had that meaty warm sound '
Is this better than Yamaha a8?
Can you provide a link to the chairs? Can’t figure the name from the quick conversation about them?
rowoneht.com/ Please drop our name if you do order as we don't have any affiliate in place yet. thanks
How they use 5 sub?
Hey Gene, its maybe time to review those Q950's and maybe some R11/R3 metas 😀
Will sony make spirit box.?
That center shift concept is a very cool idea… wonder if they will ever release this as a pre/pro unit exclusively
Probably not. It wouldn't really be any cheaper, especially considering the potential amount to be sold compared to the receiver.
@@feiyulu Maybe not, but lighter and smaller is worth something in my book for sure.
@@feiyulu Sony realizes this is a fading market. I would not expect another round up of item in next 5 years nor much change in format wars.
Love sony, but hate it that we in Europe still are waiting for their new receivers line to come out...
Don Dunn appears magically.
It's that good ish he be smoking😂😂😂😂
Only wish it had AURO 3D. Then I would buy it.
I'm still tempted by the 7000 but lack of Auro has me concerned. My Marantz 7015 has it and I use it all the time for upmixing 5.1 tracks. I love the Auro 3d upmixer! No other sound mode on the receiver comes close. But maybe the 7000 has some tricks up it's sleeve. If it had Auro, I'd definitely get one in.
I was going for one of the new sonys but ended up buying the denen 4800 because I wanted Aura 3d. They need to get it back.
@@chadmacdonald6009 yes the Denon is what I have in my sights. It's necessary to have it, bc a lot of atmos tracks are lacking.
I would much rather have Sonys 360 spatial room correction any day over Auro 3D
@@tcamm9812 Does it upmix? Is it a replacement for Auro3D? The purpose for Auro is when the Dolby Atmos track is lacking and non-existent would I then try and use Auro 3D.
How does this compare to my new Nakamichi dragon 11.4.6?
No soudbar system could ever hope to compete with a really good discrete multi-ch speaker system like this. You get better separation from the speakers and more available power from the larger power supply in the AVR.
I wish they made a dedicated processor.
Gene, what type of subwoofers did they use in the demo with the Sony?
KEF
Kavon I’m available 😊
Are there 5 independent sub outs?
No only 2, probably daisy-chained from each sub woofer
@@Professor5180 How underwhelming for a flagship 2023 model.
@@deankim6687 yes & no. I don't think it's a huge deal breaker anymore since most AVR fanatics end up using a mini-DSP and run REW anyways.
ok lets have the full measurements and dimensions, who had the bigger guns?
Haha I think Kavon's got me beat. He is more lean.
They haven't perfected 2.0 yet why do you need so many channels?
More impressive is seeing both Gene and the Sony guy with impressive guns ( biceps )
Ok and how much will this cost🙄
I think the only feature the 5000 and 7000 lacks is a dedicated preamp mode. If i were in the market for a receiver or processor, sony is where i would gravitate
What is the main benefit of a dedicated preamp mode?
@@demonreturns4336 a multi channel receiver has built in amplification. Ones with a preamp mode are able to turn off the amps so the receiver can be used as just a processor. Many receivers have pre-outs for external amplification, but only a couple brands are going the extra step by being able to turn off the internal amps.
Doesn't SONY make their own speakers.... Why are the showing KEF 👀
They don't make any really good HT speakers.
What Bearclaw said. They have only a few HT speakers available on their site and most are just high priced sound bars. There is one particular "system" advertised as the SA-Z1 they list as their "Signature Series". It has a pair of tiny 4" subwoofers and miniature 9/16" tweeters mounted inside an 8"x8"x12" enclosure with a D.A. converter. It, no joke, costs $8,000!! It's like they took one of those little Bluetooth mobile phone subwoofers, attached a power cord, put in a D.A. converter and said this costs $8k as a joke, but someone thought they were serious and listed it. You gotta look them up in Google images to put into perspective just how small they actually are. F U Sony 😐
And yet they still refuse to sell them in europe.
Sony still have 1 big problem if you want 3d from the new projektor you have too pay over 10.000 dollars
Sony has amazing software that’s the only way it could be incredible because the internals are weak compared to a onkyo marantz etc
We measured the amp section of the 7000. It's pretty strong. Close to the Marantz SR8015.
@@Audioholics well what Sony has on the website would say otherwise to the average consumer like me . rating it at 1kHz instead of the industry standard . 1khz at 0.9 doesn’t sound great imo I’d like to know the true rating
@@Audioholics Thanks for the reference.
what receiver are you currently working with.
@@danemoreno88 , Acknowledge that you are dull and shut up. Gene measured it.
Not a very good review. Chairs L E D lights video? Really!
It's a trade show coverage video, not a review. Perhaps watch before offering misinformed comments.
Those chairs feature something really special to an audiophile. Do you know what it is?
A low back rest that's adjustable. That preserves your soundstage and lets you hear the rear effects better. There aren't many made like that and they tend to be pricey. Cool chairs.
Sony has been resting on their laurels since the 90s. Now they only make junk and rely on nostalgia for profits. Seriously, I haven’t heard a decent sound from Sony in 30 years. Maybe they have a flagship model, but I refuse to support a company with such low ethics.
Well they do make the best tvs and it sounds like they are coming out swinging with these new receivers too.
@@bearclaw5115 maybe I missed something and haven’t been keeping up, but LG and Samsung have been leading in TV tech for many years. I used to really like Sony, which is why I was so upset when they started sending us garbage to sell. They’re not beyond redemption, but it would take a massive change to win me back. Just my 2 cents.
Sony has won the past 4 King of TV shootouts and is consistently ranked best in class (HDTVtest and What HiFi) - where have you been for the past 5+ years?
