No disrespect to Shaq but most of his points against Sabonis were due to uncalled offensive fouls (lowering the shoulder) and about 90% of Sabonis’ points in the paint should have been three point plays. Very biased and lopsided officiating helped LA and sank Portland.
It must be taken into account that Sabonis came to the NBA with many years already, some of them without playing, struggling with injuries, and at no more than 40% of the physical and athletic capacity that he had at Saq's age ... I saw him play live when he was 20 years old and the KGB accompanied and supervised the sports teams of the USSR. A man of that height and physical bearing, who bounced and shot like a 3, passed like a playmaker, and was able to put his arm up to the elbow in the ring. In that game he broke a board. Later, his son played a junior tournament with Unicaja on that same court. I told him about the board, and he remembered that his father told him about it and the problems he had for delaying the meeting for more than half an hour ... At that time it was a spectacle to see him play.

'@@LALakers4life34 When Sabonis came to NBA, it was towards the end of his career. He ways way past his prime. Also injuries. The NBA doctors literally said that he actually qualifies as a cripple. And he still went toe to toe with Shaq in his prime
Had Sabonis made into the NBA 10 years younger he would've owned the league, he was years, talent wise ahead of his time, plus despite his size he was quite the athlete, he was practically unguardable.
If Arvydas Sobonis was allowed to play with the Portland Trailblazers in the 1990's with the team that went to two finals (Clyde Drexler, Buck Williams, Terry Porter, Jerome Kersey, etc) would Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen's Bulls have won 6 championships? I don't think so.
He lost too many years in Spain in Forum Valladolid (what kind of agent he had?) and Madrid. He should have played in the NBA in 1991 when Lithuania achieved independance from Soviet Union
I am great fun of sabas but let us be fair with shaq. He is one of the best 5 senters warldwide. Sabas if he didn't have the injuries might had a place in that club. As for no 1 Wilt is by far the best.
Yeah, but also remember that Sabas was all banged up, with major surgeries in both knees and a bad back, plus thirty years old, a bit beyond his prime, there's no way Shaquille would've manhandle him if they had been the same age!!!
WELL HERE IS THE THINK: SABONIS PLAYING WAS TOTALY MENTALY!! IN OTHER HAND SAKIL PLAYING WITH BRUTH STRENGH!! AND ALWAYS BRAIN PREVAIL ANGAINST MUSCLES!!!

@@culifabrizio1479 No. I was a spanish in Spain. Why?
Sabonis casually taking hooks and jumpers with old man legs.
Sabonis was twice the player Shaq was in his prime with no knees, Shaq had no skill he only bullied, Sabonis was larger and had top 5 all time skill
Ha! Just a hater a three time finals MVPs has no skills bull 💩
what an IDIOT
Great player! Can do anything! Shaq is a litlle boy near him!
Shaq still dunked on him embarrassingly
look how small he makes Shaq look lol

Eh idk. Shaq would’ve still been babying him. Just like he did Hakeem, Robinson, Ewing, Yao, etc

Shaq looked noticeably bulkier years later when he truly dominated. Must have found the right PED supplier..surprised more people don’t mention it

I agree but what does your comment has to do with Sabonis?
01:15 though. 🤣
Imagine a world where Sabonis joins the NBA at 22 and Tarpley didn't do coke, scary as hell
Shaq didn't show enough respect for Sabonis. But Sabonis had much more advantages than Shaq.
