Just a reminder that this is an old, broken Sabonis doing this. Imagine young, prime Sabonis đ±
He was the best player in Europe and he came to nba at game 30s
Gives me goosebumps thinking about just how dominant he would have been in his PRIME in the nba without injuries
I don't need to imagine that. I'm old enough to remember a young Arvydas Sabonis playing in the Zalgiris Kaunas team against Real Madrid. It was like seeing an alien. A guy that size, being so fast and scoring 3 pointers? That was crazy back then in european basketball, big guys like Tkachenko, Meneghin or Fernando Romay were slow. It's a shame he wasn't allowed to play in the NBA sooner, he was a beast.
@@gamian_skillard1333 Thing is Sabonis had very high IQ about the game. Hes not selfish, he didnt played to be dominant like players these days. He played to win. I think if you put prime Sabonis in these days NBA he would probably be best C in a league due his IQ, passing abilities, 3pt shots. He was all round player good at offence and good at defence which is kinda rare in NBA. And just look at his jumps at 30s + after all those crazy injuries:) This man can't jump anymore and he still played at top quality.. Well, but we will never know what would have happened if USSR would have let him join NBA at early age. Probably he would not had so many injuries. Anyway It's nice to see people in NBA still remember him, cause here in our Country hes like a national treasure and BC Zalgiris vs Moscow CSKA back in 80s was crazy. Those Lithuanians like Sabonis who played basketball under USSR, but always said Im not Russian Im Lithuanian gave some extra strenght for whole nation to get its freedom back. I hope Domantas Sabonis will be same good as his dad, because we need a leader in our national basketball. Generations changed and atm I don't see anyone who could lead our basketball team on a court :) See you all in World Cup this year!
@@vecislt good luck to you and your team and nation brother! agree with everything you said above!
lol he plays like that old dude that still gets buckets in pick up games even though he can barely move
Hahaha.... yeah, but if you watch videos when he was in his prime the man can jump out of the building!
thats definitely NBA sabonis. biggest what if from europe
@Jason Graves counldt have said it better myself đ
he literally was that old dude...
Jokic plays like that at a much younger age.
Sabonis looking like a Mafia boss, playing with his Mobs.
Nah, he looks like 7 foot Dan Akroyd
looking like archenemy of Jusuf Nurkic's father
I refuse to believe he's not a mafia boss
â@@oldfrend I was like âwait wait wait, you are GOAT, Put the gun down, Domantasâ
Wish he played in America sooner
Arvydas is the most underrated NBA center....he was truly gifted, poetry in motion. Had he come over to the Blazers in 86 instead of 95 - I can only imagine the glory the Blazers would have had
đđđ
With our early 90's starters.....we would've had multiple rings....
Wouldve had a better chance at beating detroit and chicago
He wasn't underrated. The 80s and 90s had too many big men. If he wasn't injured he would've been one of the best
@@vamoneygroup He wasn't underrated in Europe, but most people don't realize that, in his prime, he was easily one of the greatest centers ever. A lot of people don't realize how well he would have likely performed if he had played in the NBA during his prime.
At half his capacity, Sabonis was still an all-star quality center. For a few years, when he was young, he was the best center in the world.
This man was a special talent. A butcher with the touch of a surgeon. One of the biggest couldâve beens in nba history
SugaHoneyIceTea36 couldnât have put it any better
So many blazers were massive could've beens and what ifs. It's tragic
We all know drose the biggest could've been tho
Drose_since_06 Grant Hill
@@golden-sun Yep. Sabonis, Brandon Roy, Drazen petrovic, Greg oden
Man just walking the hole game and still got 32 10 and 6 blocks. Amazing talent!
This guy is so underrated. I mean his passing alone is otherworldly. Too bad he got to the NBA so late in his career.
Maybe by fans, but heâs not underrated heâs in the Hall Of Fame lol
Sucks that his body was already broken when he was just a rookie. His game was sweet nevertheless.
Old man ran point center dam near half his rookie season, wished we could got him sooner
He's broken coz he played for the blazers.
@@UdonTZai I wasn't because of that but alright
this is even an old version of the man...if you saw him back in the day...he is a great big man...very skilled...respect to the Hall of Famer...my man Sabonis...
In my opinion, the best passing Center of all time.
I dont think you can argue him being better than Jokic but if only Arvydas was younger Im sure it wouldve been a debate
Jokic is but arvydas couldve been if he got to the nba back in '86
Literally my favorite player of all time
At age 37, with about a dozen knee and back injuries slowing him down.
If they had a young prime Sabonis on those early 90s Blazer teams they woulda won some rings.
He had this bowling ball pass out of the post that no one else does...it was so fluid and casual. Helluva passer.
Simply the greatest basketball player of all time.
Maybe so
No
When he was young, before injuries, he would have been a Victor Wembeyama kind of thing, he was as a young basketball player big, powerful, with excellent passing and shooting skills. When he went to NBA at 31 he was physically ran down, he was absolutely something else an artist and something wonderful. Not the best player in history but on my book the biggest what if ever and I absolutely loved the guy as a player.
@@javierzapatero7379 well he was definitely better than Wemby. Sabonis was very strong and had skills.
*_That was a Sabonis without legs, imagine a young Arvydas._*
I know
He would be in the Hall if fame battling Dirk for best euro player ever....
Shawn A Sabonis was a way better overall defender than Dirk, along with the shot blocking Dirk never had. Plus he was an unreal playmaker for any position, while Dirk was just average at his position.
@@SethKasso Dirk?? Average?? At his position?? Do you even know what you're talking about?
Yo Mama I think he meant dirk was an average playmaker in comparison to arvydas
Everyone knows dirk as a whole player is NOT average
â@Yuval Ski You have no idea what you're talking about. I love Dirk, he had one of the greatest playoff runs in NBA history, but he's not the basketball savant Sabonis was. And in Sabonis's prime, he was way more athletic than Dirk, a far better playmaker, and a far better defensive player. I would maybe give Dirk a slight edge as a scorer, but in every other aspect of the game, Sabonis was superior by a significant margin.
Arvydas Vader: "Nikola, I am your father" ...
Tomas Lundström Jokic: No impossible (watching Sabonis highlights clips) actually I get it
Hahaha top.
@lol shit is this dude Domantas' dad? lol
Philippe Ochoa Yeah hes the guy that is averaging 18.5 pts and is now a all star sooooo
@@deivydasbaksa3324 he never said anything bad about domas
The Lithuanian team from Kaunas, Zalgiris, was amazing in the 80s. At one point 4 out of 5 starters for the USSR team were from Zalgiris (Sabonis in his prime, Curtinaitis, Homicius, and Marciulionis). The battles between Zalgiris and the Red Army team (CSKA) were intense. I watched them on Soviet TV. Drazen Petrovic was Sabonis' contemporary, at Cibona Zagreb. Basketball, in the NBA and in Europe, was amazing in the 80s.
Marciulionis didn't play for Zalgiris, he played for Statiba Vilnius, the other Lithuanian team in the top-tier Soviet league. Chomicius was not starting very often for USSR as well. Usually it was either Valters or Sokk. Nonetheless, Zalgiris were an awesome team in the 80s: winning three straight championships against CSKA Moscow, going into European Cup Finals, only to lose to incredible Cibona, with Drazen Petrovic.
This man is 100% legend
I was just a kid when I first watched Arvydas play, but I remember being amazed by his skillset and what he could do at his size. His footwork, craftiness, passing ability, and interior presence left me in awe. I later learned he did not even play his prime years in the NBA.
It's been awesome watching his son, Domantas, making a name for himself in the NBA.
Just imagining a 25 years old Sabonis at the NBA.
more like a upgraded version of domantas sabonis
@@qiyushen1985 domantas would look like a bench player compared to prime Arvydas
@@qiyushen1985 more like a fusion of Porzingis and Doncic
sasarasasarasa damn he was AMAZING when he was 16
CSGO Betting that did not age well
Shout out to the two blazers fans near our bench. Gotta give it to fans that cheer like that ON THE ROAD. Love it.
You can tell those are die-hard fans..
It's too bad that we never got to see this dude in his prime in the nba!
EASILY one of the best bigs of ALL TIME!
He was one of my favorite trailblazer players growing up man these was the days I miss them days đ„Čđ„Č
He was a beast
Figuratively my favorite Blazer of all time.
Check out some of his highlights, m.czcams.com/video/PHAdHgRHAo4/video.html
What about Brandon Roy?
Clyde the glide
Not literally, though (?) đ€
He was definitely one of the most entertaining players to watch. Such tremendous skill.
If only he'd been allowed to come over in 1986, when he was drafted.
I would've loved to see more of him before he ruined his knees.
Stupid Soviet red tape...at least we can play out that what-if in 2K19.
And his son Domantas is pretty good too.
He was broken a lot of times, but he always came back.
Velesas no one could guarantee that but the Russians had him going on painkillers during injuries and seriously fucked him up
He basically saying he would have loved to see him play in the NBA when he was younger and more athletic. His size plus skill set would have made for a hell of a C, just look at what he did once he was able to play in the league.
It wasn't his knees it was his Achilles tendon that he wrecked jumping off a building in Lithuania after maybe having a few too many shots of Vodka. There was a big article with pictures of his leg and the operation in a magazine called Mokslas it Gyvenas
@@kanadietis you are talking bullshit about jumping off a building
I was a Laker fan at that time and I still loved this Portland squad
Sabonis+Schrempf+Scottie+Steve Smith+Rasheed+Stoudamire+"Plastic Man" Augmon & Bonzi...
Man, I loved those JailBlazers so much.
Also it was a travesty that this team didn't win a championship. So loaded and talented
yeah even shaq and horry agreed easily the toughest team they ever faced. these blazers arent intimidated by the lakers then
He was one skilled big man!
in the final period of his career, with basically no knee, no vertical, he still looked quite agile and relatively athletic given his size.
This guy was a beast. So graceful to watch, even with sore knees and ankles limiting his full ability.
NBA missed out on a young Sabonis. He was an absolute beast in the post in his late teens/early 20s.
Yeah but they coudlnt have done anything cuz of soviet union
The man controls the ball mid-shot like a genius, I havent seen a lot of other people do that
Remember now, Arvydas was 35 years old with absolutely mashed up legs with overweight issues and he was supposed to be going into the last stage of the twilight of his career but in 2001 as a 35 year old in 24 minutes of play he got 32 Points missing only 1 Field Goal 10 Rebounds and 6 Blocks
@John doue Quebec Klay got 37 pts in 9 minutes. He too, like Arvydas had a ridiculous stretch going 13/13 from the field.
Jm Gonzales 11-12 From the Field
he was 37 here
Uno de los mejores pivots de la historia. Si no hubiese sido por las lesiones hubiera sido el mejor pivot de la historia. Tiro excepcional y una gran visiĂłn de juego.
strong man
I miss watching this team... Sabonis should start coaching Nurkic
Juan Rodriguez Jokic would be a better protege.
@@y2shuproblem Why not his own son đ
@@user-qp3tj3si6n cause his son plays nothing like him haha

Sabonis now looks after Basketball federation in Lithunia :) I love those 80s thing where USSR starting five was like 2-3Lithuanians, 1 Ukranian and 1 Georgian I think, with no Russians xD
If only he played in the league when he was young. Dude is so skill and has a nice touch.
With no knees... a legend.... in their best... could have been a top 5

What a freaking beast, if only we could see the prime sabonis in the NBA. He would have definitely become the best centre of all time!
Sabonis passing is so damn crisp. Even the bounce passes are fast.
Um dos melhores pivĂŽs que vi jogar. Ele foi espetacular!
Legend! One of my favourite Players of all time.
He makes it look so effortless, pleasure to watch
I Love You Portland Trail Blazers and I Love You Golden State Warriors

He was basically a more fundamental bill walton. He wouldve been top 10 centers if he played nba in his prime

Holy shit. Sabonis is EXTREMELY good at basketball. He definitely looks like an extremely good winning piece with the way he plays.
Viva! Maestro Arvidas Sabonis.
Amazing player
That was an epic blazers squad
Completely underappreciated....
He was awesome
This man is a beast on 2k
Best passing bigman/center of all-time. The blazers could have pull an upset against the lakers during the 99-00 playoffs.
That Blazer team was the Defacto NBA champs that year. Pippen, Sheed, S Smith, Rider and Sabonis had the Lakers figured out and were up 17 with 8 minutes to go in the 4th when the referees completely conspired against them. The obvious fix was in, no doubt. But that was the NBA under David Stern, corrupt as hell.
@@marktrail8624 After they fouled out Sabonis on ticky tack calls it was over for Portland. They should've been the champs that year.
Portland was so good for that brief stretch of 99 and 2000.

Man, some of those passes, the guys are trying not to laugh coming back up the court, they're that good
