I don't need to imagine that. I'm old enough to remember a young Arvydas Sabonis playing in the Zalgiris Kaunas team against Real Madrid. It was like seeing an alien. A guy that size, being so fast and scoring 3 pointers? That was crazy back then in european basketball, big guys like Tkachenko, Meneghin or Fernando Romay were slow. It's a shame he wasn't allowed to play in the NBA sooner, he was a beast.

@@gamian_skillard1333 Thing is Sabonis had very high IQ about the game. Hes not selfish, he didnt played to be dominant like players these days. He played to win. I think if you put prime Sabonis in these days NBA he would probably be best C in a league due his IQ, passing abilities, 3pt shots. He was all round player good at offence and good at defence which is kinda rare in NBA. And just look at his jumps at 30s + after all those crazy injuries:) This man can't jump anymore and he still played at top quality.. Well, but we will never know what would have happened if USSR would have let him join NBA at early age. Probably he would not had so many injuries. Anyway It's nice to see people in NBA still remember him, cause here in our Country hes like a national treasure and BC Zalgiris vs Moscow CSKA back in 80s was crazy. Those Lithuanians like Sabonis who played basketball under USSR, but always said Im not Russian Im Lithuanian gave some extra strenght for whole nation to get its freedom back. I hope Domantas Sabonis will be same good as his dad, because we need a leader in our national basketball. Generations changed and atm I don't see anyone who could lead our basketball team on a court :) See you all in World Cup this year!

The battles between Zalgiris and the Red Army team (CSKA) were intense. I watched them on Soviet TV. Drazen Petrovic was Sabonis' contemporary, at Cibona Zagreb. That Blazer team was the Defacto NBA champs that year. Pippen, Sheed, S Smith, Rider and Sabonis had the Lakers figured out and were up 17 with 8 minutes to go in the 4th when the referees completely conspired against them. The obvious fix was in, no doubt. But that was the NBA under David Stern, corrupt as hell.
