I can't think of any center that had the skill set of Sabonis (except maybe Olajuwan)... As a passer, he's likely the best all time among bigs. He also had a great post up game and could shoot from distance. Some of the most highly regarded centers look pedestrian in comparison. He was past his prime when he came to the nba, and remains relatively unknown in America.. but he's a legend in Spain and undoubtedly a hero in Lithuania.

Indeed. Many people wonder what could have been. But the Ruskies with their Cold War mentality to win no matter the cost overused him very badly in the eighties. That is what laid the foundation for his future chronic leg issues. Still put up quite a show for a semi-disabled athlete. :D Cannot but bow down and respect the dude.

you dont know what you are talking about. In NBA each team play 82 games, how come 'Ruskies' overused him? He played more than 82 games? He played maybe a few games with injection, but hey, this is a norm in NBA! Besides, Patrick Ewing had almost same problems at his late 20s. he totally lost his mobility even in 1993, at the age of 30. Maybe the Russkies overussed him, too, though he never heard about it?

A huge merit in the fact that Sabonis became a universal player, his children's coach Yuri Fedorov. When he came to him as a boy, Fedorov taught him that a center player should not be able to. Therefore, Arvydas can do everything.
