- Hello Outside Viewers!
In this video, we are inside today trying something new and exciting. With a little persistence and thoughtful thinking, we are able to create homemade synthetic rubies. Join us as we spend time creating something truly amazing inside the garage.

This is going to be my new side hustle to making money on the side.
To make large rubies, Use a graphite crucible. A large one. They are good to 5000 degrees. Use Map or propane gas with Oxygen. It also burns about 5000 degrees or more. Put a couple of spoonful's of Aluminum oxide in the crucible and melt it. Once its liquid, Use a metal stainless tube to slowly feed in more aluminum oxide. Grow your ruby as large as you want. It takes practice because the torch likes to blow the new material away. Use a really big and wide crucible and keep the torch to one side. I have made rubies and sapphires as large as tennis balls. There really isn't a way to make good selling rubies this way. They have a certain look to them that people don't value. They are cloudy and never clear. Almost impossible to sell for anything other than industrial applications like sand paper.
Yeah we’ve actually already done that with my jewelers torch! Thanks for the comment!
Great video guys
Thanks, we appreciate it!
Watch-out...Get out of the way...he’s got the sparky thing again.
The smaller ones can go into a tumbler, polished and set as Cabauchons. You have a little money spinner there boys.💎
That sparky thing does crazy stuff!! Thanks for the comment!
Awesome guys ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks!!
I'm late to the party, but what would happen if you took all of the tiny rubies and tried melting them into a larger gem?
Haha, well we tried that and it didn’t work for us. There is a point that things start to get brittle and burned looking, and we kept passing that point. May be worth revisiting sometime.
I gotta know, what temperature is that arc?
Not sure, but I believe it gets over 5,000* F...
The Microwave oven also can create rubies. They test as rubies just like natural rubies.
Might have to check that out!
How do they look polished/cut?
We actually haven’t tried. The smaller ones are pretty shiny already, but the bigger ones are rough. Industrial grade, I suppose...
What is the yield per gram of powder used?
Thanks for the question! We have not succeeded in melting all the powder used, and the amount melted has not been consistently the same each time, so no specific yield ratio is currently available!
@@chrisandrewoutside1560 ah ok, was just curious, have a nice day!
Just imagine that being that Rubies are so easy to make, what if the United States dollar switches from a fiat into a system back by Rubies. We can't go back into the gold standard because there's not enough gold to back the Dollar. Rubies can be easily made and any government can hold as much Rubies as they want for the economy 🤣 we will all be wealthy with a strong dollar with a very high buying power.
Fab idea! Send it to congress, but wait till I make a truckload! Lol
Nice idea, wish i could understand what you say, all i hear is mumbles through your masks. I have seen high quality rubies grown in an inert atmosphere with carbon arc.
Yeah, we realized it could be hard to understand, but we also didn't want to breath any toxic fumes. Thanks for your comment and we appreciate you watching.
Que porcaria, tem um experimento igual que saiu muito rápido e melhor, sejam mais originais.
