    Thank you so much! My 2012 MacBook pro now write at an average of 280 mbps and read at 480mbps, run 10 degrees lower than before in temperature, and I actually scored slightly above the worst system listed in Cinebench R20 - the very fact I actually didn't failed to render the test is quite amazing. Next I'm going to hook it up to an external eGPU with a Quadro K2200, or maybe a 1050 TI. Who knew? The unibody model is some *serious* quality hardware.

      That’s awesome. I really love the 2012 non-retina as well. I haven’t gotten around to configuring mine with an eGPU but have wanted to for a while......

    Finally got around to doing this. Definitely runs cooler, especially when forcing the nvidia geforce graphics. Great video. T-6 driver needed small phillips and a plastic pry tool. Remove the old paiste with paper towels and isopopyl alcohol .
    I highly recommend the Arctic silver 5 thermal paste. I bought 2 pack for $11.

    My 2012 MacBook Pro runs like a damn space heater even with a minimal install of Arch linux. I'm definitely going to try this.

      I finally did it and replaced the crusty old factory thermal paste on my Macbook Pro with some Arctic Silver this past week. The fan has definitely calmed down and the machine no longer feels like an oven when I'm typing on it.

    hi what is the cable that you remove at 3:53, I unfortunately cut that cable...

      Not sure exactly which cable you're talking about. I believe the three cables there are battery, keyboard, and trackpad cables. I could be wrong though.

      Looks like the track pad. I won't ask how you cut it....

    How did this affect performance?

      @RedOrion0  Před 4 lety +1

      Honestly don’t remember but I suspect it did a bit. Totally forgot to run Cinebench or something.

    Sorry but it’s drivin me crazy how 8:20 you skipped over the part of attaching the paste to gpu but show patiently how you put the screws back
