      After the big windstorm a few weeks ago. I hear them say they're going to up rates to pay for repairs. So, I call to get the trees trimmed in my neighborhood because the lines run right through the trees. But, they tell me I need a specific address instead of a location where an entire street needs trees trimmed. No surprise, power is out again.

      The seniors, disabled and sick should have already been moved to hospitals and community centers with extra assistance for them. These ppl are notified prior to the emergency to evacuate to a center or hospital. If they choose to strand themselves no one should be expected to endanger themselves. Until the water recedes the tree and clean up crews can’t even get in. Are you expecting dive teams to cut brush underwater? What part did you not understand when you were told to gather supplies for 3-5 days possibly longer? 1) lack of resilience of our electric grid. Clearly a category 1 should not leave almost 2.5 million people without power.
    2) lack of preparation. Probably the plans are not updated, the company has to know they are doing a poor job in maintaining it.
    3) restoration time: you can't talk about assessment taking almost 48 hours. In over 36 hours with a clear sky, they haven't restored even 50% of impacted customers.

    I really don't feel the good of Electricity privatization. It was a hurricane that was barely level 1, it should have caused no damage at all. This kind of storm won't disturb the power supply for even one second in Japan or Taiwan.

    People have over 10kw in devices in their home and don’t even have a basic home portable generator that only cost $800 and $250 more for a setup to run the entire house instead of extension cords. Interlock kit outlet with breaker and gene setup about $1100. Big homes , 100k incomes , and expensive homes don’t even have a generator to run their AC and appliances.

    • @elizabethl6187
      @elizabethl6187 Před měsícem +1

      We’ve been putting off the decision because of the pros and cons. The “right way” is a permanent installation that runs off your gas line, but it’s really expensive, it doesn’t really increase the house value and we can’t take it with us. The portable, affordable option is very easy to steal and you have to store a guesstimated amount of combustible fuel year-round.
      We’ll probably make that decision after this event, but ugh.
