However, repentance is not accepted from those who knowingly persist in sin until they start dying, and then cry, “Now I repent!” nor those who die as disbelievers. For them We have prepared a painful punishment. Surah An Nisa 18
With all due respect The hadith is not confirmed by this Ayat , therefore continue to repent and strive to overcome that which you wish to repent sincerely upon and not delay it till the life reaches the throat. Therefore many hadiths must be checked with the Ayat in Quran, otherwise the tendency is ki Allah se akhir mein mafi maang lenge , hajj pe ja ke sab gunah maaf karwa lenge , this mindset is a disbelief and procrastination and not actions for repentance but a formal process as told by maulvis , it is very important that we learn from Quran , ponder and behave with an active strive to improve ones character
