for me this is the first show of the franchise that I watched, but I didn't know anything about it (I even had it mixed up with the other show you mentioned)
I liked how it left some things not fully explained because it made me interested in watching the previous story, but it seems that is hard to come by in english...
everything was nice imo only that I wanted to know way more about the guy's past but all we have is a cliff-hanger (wich was meh, it's obvious he'll survive somehow)
I suppouse if there is a second season it'll be solved quickly, bummer to end on tho and I have nothing to theorize on it now

Just finished akuma kun and I knew this series had a prequel, as much as I like these new characters clearly made to be a incarnation of the old characters, but personally instead of having a new world that clearly stems from knowing a old series leaving viewers to question would’ve been better to have a newer condensed version of the old one thag then lead on to a sequel like we obtained

I am a Kitaro fan (my first Kitaro anime was the 1985 one when it aired on my local TV then I watched the 2018 one and a little bit of the 1960 episodes), I gave the Netflix Akuma-kun a try after watching Gegege no Nazo in cinema and later saw a clip of certain cameo of a character from the movie in one of the Akuma-kun episodes.
I know nothing of Akuma-kun prior to 2023 Adaptation, but the show was very entertaining despite not exactly understanding the prequel characters and motives, I do have questions and need for context however moreso to Ichiro's origins which still doesn't feel clear enough. I don't feel required to check the prequel but I probably would when given the chance.

Being chilean, i loved the Rapa Nui episode... and i laughed at seeing the 'pacos' (cops) getting off the 'cuca' (police wagon) and 'ratis' (pdi detectives)

There are fansubs for the '89 Akuma Kun anime. I don't know if they are complete or not though.
