How did I vlog this gig?
    1) Liz Maney is a kickass videographer I could afford to hire because of Patreon, and she filmed the concert footage. She's the apartment session's videographer, and she's badass.
    2) Rockwood sells multi-tracks of gigs, and (thanks to Patreon) I could buy that at the end of the night to mix later. I'm trying to get the best audio possible on these gigs since, you know. It's music. Audio is important.
    3) I have a GoPro attachment for my bass. It looks a little silly sometimes, but I love the angle that I get with it. I like moving angles, and it's an easy way to get a moving angle without an extra camera person.
    4) Video editing is an insanely time-consuming process for me. I could have just cut up the best clips of the night and called it a video, but I want to tell a story, and that involves pouring through many hours of clips from rehearsal and the post-gig interview and figuring out not only what sounds good, but what tells the story I want to tell about the music we made in the order we made it.
It honestly is something that I haven't seen other musicians do, so I'm kind of in uncharted waters here as far as documentary process goes. I'd like to see more people do it, but I understand why that hasn't quite happened yet...since it's so time-consuming! Thanks to Patreon, I can afford to spend my waking hours obsessing over these details.
Basically, thank you people of Patreon. You make this content possible.

Thanks for the run-down, Adam. I figured you were getting some help with the video. I think the hardest part of editing for me is syncing up audio with video when trying to show multiple camera angles over one song.

I'm in a shitty band where we play just for the fun of it, just for ourselves. And I have no delusions that I'm anything less than on the bottom rung of the musical ladder. But it blows my mind that pros can rehearse a song for 10 minutes (as a group) and nail it.

    Time spent packing: 30 minutes
Time spent learning Ella's solo: 3 hours 30 minutes
I sure did learn a huge chunk of that solo. Had to audiate the whole thing though, because hotel noise complaints/sleeping roommates/I lost my voice (still recovering) so once I am fit to sing again (probably in 2 or 3 days if I give it a *rest*) I'll see how much I actually learned!

Josh hatin' on 'the' reggae at 7:09 lol! When I first heard you say that you had to play from 11PM-1AM, i thought...no big deal. Then the reality hit during your rehearsal, you guys learned 15+ songs the day before?! Impressive and fun gig, thanks for sharing Adam!

1:23 lol as a musician I understand how fucking epic that is to not have bass for so long and then it comes in on the 1 chord like that, nailed it!

(we're out)- yep, can relate. Working for solo singers like that would drive me to distraction. Changing the structure mid-stream, dragging out the tempos to squeeze a few more drops out of their melody, just not listening to anything but their own brilliance and expecting the band to fall right in wherever they are, without so much as a signal. I've done it, and it's three times as much work as working in a band as a band for the same amount of time. You're a real pro, man. Cheers to your patience and professional sensitivity.

Damn, this music is generally not what I'd listen to, but I love the behind the scenes-videos of these showcases and all.
Also very impressed with your (plural) ability as musicians to work together and be as tight, even when the vocalist asked for "that bridge again". Supreme musicianship here.

Before watching the rest of this, I have to say this is very interesting in so many ways. I feel you. Wonderful artists, fresh takes, wise words, a fascinating insight, many good pieces of advice hidden like little gems or like stars on a clear night. I bet musicians will be able to learn a whole lot, if they watch this with care and or interest, and with ears wide open... Thank you for this unique and most inspiring video!

2:02 Damn that guitarist is on fire. From time to time I really get bloated and I feel like I'm an awesome player but then there are these humbling moments. I mean I've been playing for 10 years now and I could probably play that sort of stuff but man: writing shit like that, playing it on stage or learning it in even one day? Man that's on a whole nother level. But I think these humbling experiences are good from time to time. It shows you, that there's alway room for improvement and it pulls you back to the ground.

He's the guy who plays guitar for Britney Spears if I remember correctly. He is also in a band with Rob Chapman(Clockwork Wolf and Company)
