In my last Minecraft episode, I peeled back the mysterious layers of the Minecraft Illagers. In that, I talked about how the Illagers were looking to build their own Minecraft worlds - from portals to Steve himself. There was something else that I wasn't able to cover in that episode, and that is how Minecraft Illagers relate to the history of what is known as cargo cults.

Maybe they saw the builders go into the portal. I have a feeling that the builders had some kind of connection to the villagers, which is why they're so friendly to us as the player. What if the illagers saw them go into the end portal, and when the builders didn't return they tried to make it again to bring them back.
You know, I'm pretty sure Mojang themselves don't have a completely fleshed out set of lore. If I recall correctly in one of their videos (not sure if it was Minecraft LIVE or something on their CZcams channel) they mentioned that they provide just enough lore for the fans to come up with their own ideas, because it inspires creative thinking and new ideas.

Maybe they try to remember what it was like when they used to build and bring life to dead people. Them, unlike Villagers, want to bring the ancient civilization back and they don’t know how, so they use cargo cult to bring them back, so the ones that started to build would show them how to do that, how to creat more advance builds, and bring persons back to life.

I'm Just a Random Blue umbreon
Hey, could you guys check out my recent CZcams video and give me your honest opinions?
I just noticed something about the wool statues in the mansions. The animal statues are Cats and Chickens. I belive cats are pretty obvious, witches have pet cats in minecraft and work with the Illagers, but something caught me with the chickens. In the mobestiary they say that Chickens might be spys for dark forces, since they can be ridden by baby versions of zombies. In fact, they're one of the only mobs in the game that can be ridden by a monster such as ravagers, spiders, and skeleton horses. It seems oddly specific for those mobs to be in there as a giant statue rather than any other mob, seems like Chickens in minecraft also have some dark connection lol
Lore of CHICKENS

I had a nightmare relating CHICKENS last night lmfao
Image you already have a fear or dislike for chickens and you hear this😐
this theory is supported when you watch Slimecicle's impossible difficulty video. They were the most dangerous enemy in the mod they created, so much so that they had to use command blocks to get rid of them. So, I do think you're on to something.
Let's go chicken theory
Theory: The Illagers , and specifically Evokers, weren't trying to imitate or recreate Steve specifically when they accidentally made zombies.
They were trying to recreate the ancient builders. *And they succeeded.* Which is where Steve comes from.
Still not quite perfectly. He's not friendly to them, and the creation process winds up causing him to come into existence at some random point in the world. But the Evokers made a Builder.
If that's the case we'd have to explain alex
In bedrock edition strongholds have a higher chance of spawning under a village, so I think that one of the “unspeakable acts” was building the end portal and maybe, using the dragon??

Jay's Random Videos lol plot twist
Perhaps, the illagers built the giant woolen animals to try and create giant monsters to help them fight or protect their mansions? It would make sense, with the idea they tried to make steve, and the illager beasts
This also explains why the evokers have totems of undying. If the ancient builders really did come in contact with the villages, they would have given some of their items to them just as a normal player would likely build a base in a village. Since the ancient builders were likely experimenting with life and death, some of their magic would have been adapted by the evokers through the totems. This also explains why they don't use the totems to stop themselves from dying, they don't fully understand how those magic items work.
"have you ever heard the tragedy of the evokers?"
"...no"
"I thought not. it's not a story the villagers would tell you. evokers were dark magicians of the iliagers so powerful and so wise, that they could influence the blocks to create, life..."

I thought that perhaps the illagers grew up with stories of the end portal and people who left with it, maybe seeking knowledge and even family or ancestors they based builds off of those stories. They might have never even seen an end portal that way only made assumptions of what they read in stories. And perhaps when they worked to find out more about those who left for the end, even pushing themselves to the point of doing something with lapis. Maybe that's when the other villagers abandoned them. The Illagers angered by the villagers continue with their experiments falling deeper into darkness. Where in that darkness like the theorists said they kidnapped and changed the villagers into those hulking beasts. I wonder if the illagers are just children who grew up on stories of those theorized ancient builders, and out of curiosity mimicked those builders with their fake maps, beds, and portals. Of course all of this is based off of what the Game Theorists have made.

Why the enderdragon is the only end creature/ender creature that can’t teleport?
Why the ancient builders went into the nether with golden swords despite the fact they clearly had access to diamonds?
How the husk is the only undead mob that doesn’t burn in daylight?
How strays got the potion required to make tipped arrows?
How the pillager is somehow able to run out of arrows?!
How hostile mobs who can’t mine or craft get weapons and armor?!!

Why someone would design desert temple traps to destroy the very loot they’re protecting?!!!!!

But what about strays? They also have hats yet they burn in daylight
With the new snapshot, it’s highly likely that they came with gold because of the piglins.
I think husks cant burn because they are already burnt and dried out, like jerky. When you put a husk in water it turns into a normal zombie, then a drowned.
I was saying it in a good way

But why come with golden swords?
They just need ingots to barter and they just need golden armor to not get attacked
I think that the illagers saw the builder before the ancient builder went through the portal. They were amazed by the builders but when they need to retreat to the end the illagers follow them trying to convince them to stay and teach them how they do what they do but the builders didn’t want to stay longer. They hopped through the portals with the illagers standing behind them.So they went home trying to recreate the portals, the beds, the animals, and the builders themselves with their totems of undying

Lol there's a few holes in this theory I don't understand. How would u come to the overworld when the end portal is a one way trip and coming back puts u at spawn? Also, how would the sophisticated crafters be able to have access to the Overworld if they couldn't defeat the End Dragon? ( MatPat was the one who described the ancient civilization not being able to defeat the End Dragon first, meaning the civilization would be stuck in the End.)
But villagers sleep in beds tho. . .
I forgot this was a Minecraft vid halfway thru
Mini theory: Assuming you’re right (I think the theory’s pretty good) If the illagers are a cargo cult in the situation of Minecraft they don’t understand the point of building with certain blocks and crafting. So how did they construct their massive wooden mansions? They must’ve-learned how to smelt sand, craft glass panes, mine, and craft logs into planks for many types of wood.
For some reason, this makes me want to go into creative mode and find their mansion, and give them real beds, real maps, a real end portal. Just to make their dreams come true haha

U ok?
Nah just burn them
They're too far gone
Actually, this seems more of a way to try to destroy the end portals. Notice the TNT? This makes it appear to be a way to destroy them and the strongholds inside too. If they just saw them, why would they get rid of the lighting? Everyone knows that lights prevent mob spawning, so the builders clearly had light before they got trapped in the end. Man, I hope someone sees this.
The TNT might be gifts from the people and put it there as an offering, the chest tells me this
I ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR COMMENT CHOSEN ONE
P.S nice catch I also noticed that keep up the good work
And if they cant make beds how can they make tnt?
yeah, all this theory does is poke more holes in the theories MatPat already did. This is turning out to make about as much sense as his claim over on Film Theory that the Cars in 'Cars" are giant, sentient insects made out of metal.
Teodor Urbaniak
I’m not very sure either, and while you could be right, I think it could also be a replica of the silverfish spawners near the Portal. It’s a far stretch but maybe the TNT is supposed to symbolize how destructive/harmful they were? Or reminding them to destroy these spawners? I don’t really know though.
“But they’re missing the point, and about three wood planks” i’m dying this guy’s hilarious
Great Mat
U shoved a whole minute out of the normal theories
Fun fact: strongholds are more common to spawn below villages
Ye mine is below a village
How is this the top comment bruh
I thought they only spawn under
i did not know that. THANK YOU its really hard for me to find one
Everytime I find stronghold it's under a village
Matpat: "They have lava in other rooms."
Also Matpat: *misses the fact that the lava in the glass was a beacon reference*
Wait, you're right!
Beacon?
Beacon?or do You mean end crystal?
If it was a beacon then would a sea lantern make more sense
No. Beacons have an obsidian base with a glowy thing surrounded by glass, just like this room.
I did a little bit of research and Evokers can change sheep wool colors from blue to red. This is directly linking the woodland mansion's wool room to the Evokers even more. Not sure if this is covered in the videos because I am still working through them and I'm two minutes into this video.
Maybe the verry existence of Steve is dark magic form the illagers? Maybe the reson there is fake end portals is because they want to travel to the end but they don’t know how, so they decided to smooth over on there original plan to create life and it actually works
Speaking of the vindicator's having different colored eyes, they can spawn in peaceful mode and they won't attack villagers if it's peaceful mode
I think its because they injected lapis into their own skulls like how he said on the last theory of the illagers
ShrekFanboy 1 well maybe not so literally. I believe it has something to do with their affiliation with lapis, but they don’t actually have lapis in their skulls
Human transmu.... Enchantment?
Mat pat: talks about cargo cults
Me: see dad, I’m learning
Edit: o my Jesus lord I have never had so many likes on a comment before, big thank!
Ah yes, information that is vital to your adult life... for bringing up on conversation to make social connections once this while social distancing event is over.
@@reyariass teachers would think otherwise, unfortunately.
Yeah parents sometimes underestimate us from not learning from these videos, basically a way better and more fun online classes
1000 like
Haaaa
Idc how many likes u have stfu
I just realized something: When you kill an evoker, they don't pop the totem, but when you kill it it drops it, so maybe the reason the illagers do raids is for souls that in turn are used for totems that would give them immortality.
like this so matpat can see
Some interesting variations on the builders, getting some ancient aliens vibes from this episode 🛸🗿
"I'm pretty sure they're just idiots"
*Offended villager noises*
Mumbo is proud
They're
@Aidan King Ironic lol
They can be offended all they want, but it doesn't make it false!
@Aidan King Improper use of they're while referring to someone as an idiot. A bit of a stretch admittedly.
Theory:
Minecraft's clerics are triying to cure zombies.
-if you pay attention to their trading "menu" you'll see thet they try buying gold(for golden apples), nether wart(for potions) and rotten flesh(for study, maybe). They would'n have any other use to the gold, since the only kind of villager that can make tools, weapons and armor, don't realy care about gold, and it is not worth as "money", wich in case are emeralds.
-they also use a brewing stand as a workstation, witch suggest that they are brewing potions.
-there's an iglu hidden in some snow biomes, wich has a secret entrace that hides a zombie villager, a brewing stand and a weakness potion.
But that's just a theory...
Edit: thanks for the likes and comments :D
Nice theory!
a comment's theory
which is good
the grammar could be slightly improved, but still a great theory my guy!
Very smart person right here. Great theory!
A mini theory
MatPat is the only person who can make me interested in social studies
Me, when I accidentally did something cool in a game: **It’s cargo cult time**
Matpat: Herobrin-
Minecraft Veterans: *_WHAT DID YOU SAY_*
It would be cool that the devs would make him an official part of the lore, perhaps the fake end portal can transform into something completely different and is a portal that leds to herobrine’s mansion or something where there is a boss arena where you fight him as the final boss.
Judgment Herobrine is official
Emily Monahan oh.. my.. god.. I’ve remembered a dark time trying to spawn him in 2012😳😳😳
My minecraft ptsd kicked in when I saw herobrine.
I remember a time where my brother joined with a Herobrine skin and gamertag back in Minecraft v1.0 it was a good try
Plot twist: the finale of this Minecraft series is just how it’s connected to fnaf
probably, actually probable.
Definitely
Don’t give Scott any ideas
110%
Fnaf Craft!
I think the wool bed thing is to simulate the Illagers having double beds. And the wool maps are probably made out of carpets because Mojang couldn't put a pre generated, filled in map of the specific world seed. So they substituted carpets to stand in as a large map
I interpreted their "imitation beds" as the in-game equivalent of a "luxury bed". Makes more sense than them forgetting how to build the beds that they used when they were villagers yet can still build mansions and weapons and use fire and magic, and the devs putting off on designing an actual "luxury bed" block similar to the normal bed. They might as well make it, I think.
MatPat, are you sure that the illagers were inspired by actual contact with the ancient builders and not by going through the books in the stronghold libraries? That would explain how they came to begin experimenting with magic fron the start. I don't think they ever met the ancient builders. And the libraries are likely partly ruined or the advanced books are missing or impossible for the illagers to understand, hence their imitation portals.
