For when it came to the different colored Froot Loops, I believe that the different flavors idea are physiological more than anything else. I think that when you look at the colors, it automatically makes you think of a certain flavor. Kinda like how we compare certain colors to emotions. And because you think of that specific flavor and all of the flavors are mixed together, your brain automatically picks those specific colors and flavors out of all the others causing you to taste different flavors.
Smells and flavors😂
In Germany, we have a saying of “Das Auge isst mit.”. It basically means that, when you see what you’re eating, the taste changes according to your thoughts.
It is also used when you have too much on your plate and you can't finish it.

So I used to work food production in a facility that made Clif bars, and a whole bunch of other brands of bars. In regards to the listing of ingredients, the fact that are weighted the same is pretty much 100%.
The fact is, it could be done in multiple facilities, but in all reality it makes sense that it's just a secondary conveyer with a secondary hopper that pulls half the batch of fruit loops down into a cinnamon bath or whatever.
The place that makes Clif bars, also makes those quaker baby bars, which are far better than clif bars lol.

The “I swear all the colors taste different” is a great example of priming. All the froot loops have the same flavor but the commercials have primed you to believe that the blue ones are blueberry flavored and the red are cherry flavored , etc so when you see them individually and taste them your brain is able to pick up that flavor but it’s basically impossible to discern them blind because your brain doesn’t have the colors to associate the flavors to. K
She wasn't lying though; they are all the same flavor :)
Apple Jacks are obviously meant to taste like BAKED APPLES WITH JUST A HINT OF CINNAMON. Not fresh apples/apple juice. And when you bake apples, whether in a pie or separate, you use more than 1 variety of apple. You use 2 or 3, a mix of sweet & sweet-tart. That's why there are some greens sprinkled in with the pink-orange now. It represents the different colored apples in the flavor. They don't taste the same as Froot Loops, the flavoring is different despite the base cereal being the same. (I like both, though.) Froot Loops taste like an apple-lemon-orange based fruit punch that would be appealing to a majority of kids.
I love it that he answers a question no one asked but still makes Vids abaut it
Psychology can be scary sometimes, seeing how just because a loop is a certain color and even though there is a moderate fruity taste, we may perceive it differently.
It's also the key to the "different" flavors of Skittles.

MatPat: I'm about to end this mans whole carrer
Hahaha
did the teacher not think about when there are more than 2 options what
Well it 6 options, which means it around 17% for each guess. So blind guessing is 17/63 times 6 in amount.
So his chance to be correct all the times is.....
MATH
My dad's friend had a test in school where he got 100% wrong on a multiple answer test. He managed to convince the teacher that wasn't reasonable and that he just misunderstood what option to X out. So he was given a 100% right after that
I am sure he didnt say that. He probably said that as the number of trials increase, ratio of the choices approach 50/50 statistically. In this case neither is the trial size that big nor the bigger factor being selection is completely random.
It’s psychological. You expect to taste orange, ya taste orange. Ya expect to taste lime, ya taste lime.
That's the cunning behind the FROOT flavoring
I expect to taste apples though especially for the green 😆

The fruit loops having the same flavor reminds me of when my fifth grade teacher told me of an experiment. 4-6th grade are the grades that do the science fair stuff, and a 5th grader decided to see if the ketchup flavors where the same (this was when ketchup could be grape flavored or something). The kid had the teacher blind taste the different ketchups and guess, which yielded the same results MatPat got.
19:47 he should've just ended it here
Btw. u didnt provide us with a taste test of eating froot loops and cardboard blindfolded, u disapointed us
If the “Froot” flavor is just the 7 fruit flavors combined, I guess it would make sense that we can detect the different flavors… as long as we can see the color.
If our mind sees red, we expect “cherry”, and since cherry is 1/7 of the flavor profile, our brain focuses on it and masks the other subtle flavors.
But! With no visual clues brains to point our brain towards a certain flavor, no particular flavor will stand out and it will just taste like “froot”, which Matt seems to describe as generally a sugary, cardboard, citrus blend.

Food Theory:
Why does cold water taste better?
I don't have a better way to say this but is because your body is already hot. Cold water makes a shock in your tongue making it seems it taste better and give a sense of refreshment in your body temperature.
@@jmtrad1906 I dunno man, maybe by science but I'm from Florida and even in the dead of winter (all 35 to 45F degree average nights) cold water *still* tastes better. I'm not a crazy person who has to have it ice cold or else I'll refuse it, but I like it reasonably chilled regardless of outside/temperature my body has been mostly exposed to.
@@jmtrad1906 I'd believe this, as someone who can't stand non-chilled water (and I prefer it ice cold).
Same I like cold water better. I think the different taste in water is because of the way it's distilled/ purified. Don't quote me though.
Cold water is less chemically active as it is less energetic
This blew my mind especially the Berenstain bears thing. My life is forever changed.
A few years ago, I wondered, “why do they look so similar?” And then seeing this video, I know why. Thanks MatPat!
Here's my theory
When our eyes see one color, we associate it with certain flavors. So if all of the loops have all of the flavors, the one we associate the color with will stick out.
But if we don't see the color, we won't be able to associate a flavor, meaning that none of the flavors will stand out.
It's not even a theory, it's fact. It's color psychology. Colors are part of social constructs and we relate colors to specific things throughout life, so you are scientifically right. That's what helped collectors in prehistoric eras to avoid dangerous/poisonous/inedible plants.
We see colors and those colors tell our mind what the thing might taste and feel like, for example; Brown with yucky, yellow and shiny with gold and red with cool!(maybe).. and many more. So what I described(and you too!) is color psychology
And I think, that's genius! I wonder if you could market food like this as "They taste like your favourite fruit" and everybody will like them, because everyone thinks that they taste like their own favourite fruit.
This is exactly the same thing that Skittles does, they're all the same, until you see the color. Go and taste test Skittles blindfolded right now, I bet you can't guess correctly
Underrated comment
"It smells like your perfume"
Food Theory: Fruit Loops are a fragrance now.
MatPat: Fruit Loops = fragrance?!
When MatPat said that I bet Steph was like: bruh
I would love some fruit loops perfume!
7:20 the reason you can decect different flavors in the single flavor "froot" is because of the color of the designated loop therefore causing the phantom difference in the flavor seeming like 5/6 flavors, same with skittles
each skittle has a different flavor tho bud
like how else would i have tasted they changed the lime flavor to green apple years back?
It made me because this has more of one ingredient, since the orange ones may have less of other flavors and more of the orange taste, and same with others, like blueberry has less of the other flavors, but it tastes most like blueberry
