    Klean Strip Acetone thins and cleans fiberglass resins and should only be used as directed on the product label. Do not spread this product over surface areas greater than 1 sq. foot because fire and health safety risks will increase dramatically. This product is extremely flammable. Use this product only with adequate ventilation to prevent buildup of vapors. If the work area is not well ventilated, DO NOT use this product. Avoid breathing of vapors or mist and contact with skin, eyes or clothing. Personal protective equipment should be worn when using this product.

      KleanStrip As mentioned before, I wouldn't use Acetone if I did this again. I would use POR15's Cleaner Degreaser. Use of KleanStrip Acetone was clearly OFF LABEL.

    Should have used a acetone sealer. You could have diluted the seal with acetone that you bought an did two coats that would last for years. That white milky wax you got requires a lot of maintenance. The concrete acetone sealers are the best. You also could have used a 18 in wooster roller or actetone sprayer to apply it for $300 or less. I would have charged $650. I also would have used a leaf blower and opened the door to blow everything out then close it and do a quick mop. Would have taken about two hours to do the job.

    The only way this coating will last is if you don't use the floor. What will kill this coating the fastest is wet/hot tires parking overnight, pulling off the coating once dry and driving off. Only takes one time.

    • @LetsTalkShop

      Instead of buffing out scratches or peeling I clean the area and apply another coat or two to those spots. Buffing might work but I haven't tried it. I DO like my shiny concrete floor but it does require touching up a couple times a year (we park in the garage so right where tires sit is where it peels). My neighbors painted their floor. He hasn't had to do anything for upkeep (aside from occasional mop).

    Correction..Acethone is not a degreaser and your floor will not be properly profile for a good quality sealey.The Behr sealer is a cheap non durable sealer that most likely will be gone in a few months and you will end up with bad floor. For a floor with high traffic as a garage you need a high solids good quality sealer. Waterbased are low solids sealer. Good thing you dont have a water heater in your garage that would blow the house up.

      I'm not sure about that Zaneta. I wouldn't paint over the sealer. It's been one year now and my floor has lots of scratches. The spots where car tires persistently rest is missing its sealer. Little by little, the sealer cracks and lifts. If I had to do it all over again, I would paint instead of seal. Or I might delve into a highly polished surface which is what I was after, but it hasn't lasted.

    Uh, I sell industrial chemicals for a living and have for 37 years. Acetone is extremely flammable with a flash point less than 0 deg F. Open the garage door with the electric opener and you've got a spark and a nice fire / explosion going. I know why your so happy breathing in acetone vapors as it will make you high....very high, plus it's really hard on your body metabolizing acetone that has entered into your body through your lungs.
    Please people, don't do this in an enclosed area. I know he said use good ventilation, but seriously stupid if indeed he's using acetone and not water as a visual, for toxicity, explosion hazard, not to mention the absorption of vapors through every mucous membrane in his body including his lungs.
    Also, acetone has an evaporation rate of 7.7 (compared to N Butyl Acetate), which is extremely fast. Not sure how much good it's doing to spread acetone around on the floor to degrease ??? Acetone is a fair degreaser, not a powerful one. Most Ketones like Methyl Ethyl Ketone, ,MIBK, MIAK, Diacetone, Cyclohexanone, DIBK, and Isophorone are pretty good degreasers, while aromatic solvents like Toluene, Xylene, Aromatic 100 and 150, are much better. But again, you're talking active solvents here and you really need lung, eye, and skin protection. With a new floor like this, might help a little bit, but where is the dirt going.....on the brushes on the broom.....which by the way, better not be made of a styrene based material or else they will melt and fuse to themselves right before your eyes.
    Anyway, just had a good laugh thinking about how much acetone this guy breathed in. Hope you have a good dialysis machine on hand someday when your kidneys quit working. Just some good advice.

      After a few years the spots where the front tires sit rubbed away. Presumably from working the steering wheel when fine tuning our parking spot. My neighbor used one of those epoxy paint type things with the speckles. His lasted longer than mine. We moved out a couple years ago so I don't know what it looks like today.

    Thanks for the video. How many gallons did you end up using for three coats? Is it slippery?

    Just curious: when you 'lift' the dirt/grease with acetone, what are you using to remove it from the floor? The broom just pushes it around until the acetone evaporates. So all you've done is relocate the dirt/grease with the broom.

      @LetsTalkShop  Před 9 lety

      specialk22tt The effort was made to start at the back wall and pull (or drag) dirt, dust, & debris toward the door. I did small sections so the acetone wouldn't dry before I could finish an area (otherwise floor dust would then be airborne - was hoping to keep it wet and manageable with the broom).

      You could and that's what we did. Sadly, it didn't last but about 3 years after which is started to yellow and peel. We were going for a look like you find at Costco.

    You should have used a paint brush on the edges first so you wouldn't have to bang the dry wall, but it looks nice

    Great video!! Very helpful. Question:
    You didn't add the grit or sand in video but if i wanted to add it... how much sand do I add and do i add sand onto the wet 2nd coat then wait for it to dry... then add 3rd coat of sealer?

      That's a very good question. I don't have the answer to that.

    Great video! You said below that it peeled; but after how long? and what do you think is the cause?
    When I did it with a similar sealer, it peeled after 6 months and it was awful!

    • @LetsTalkShop
      @LetsTalkShop  Před 4 lety

      Peeling started where the front tires swivel back and forth while pulling in or straightening out once inside. It started probably 2 years after the application.

    he should have lightly sanded between the 1st and 2nd coats. this would have removed and debree and lumps and bumps.

    ... I don't think you can get that much Acetone in my country without specific permission. Not sure if it's because of bomb making or general danger.

      I wanted Eagle Gloss Coat from Home Depot but the fine print was that it was "Online Only" item. Check into weather you can apply it after epoxy. I'm not sure on that one. It might be a straight to concrete product.
