So how long do I wait to seal a fresh slab?
I have new concrete that is 40 days old, and it is developing multiple long hairline cracks which extend across the entire slab. About three days ago, I first noticed these cracks when temperatures dropped from the 90s to the 40s. I know there is little I can do about the current damage, but I want to seal it to prevent new cracks. I have read about penetrating and acrylic sealers as possibly being helpful. Which type of sealant could help me best with preventing additional cracks? Thanks so much!
Sealer will not keep concrete from cracking. But it will keep water from soaking into it as well as protect it from stains for driveways we recommend a penetrating sealer like D- Shield. www.deco-cretesupply.com/products/water-based-sealers/d-shield
Great video, I am about to begin a barnominium and want a "stained" concrete floor. I understand waiting 30 days. My question is of the concrete guy uses a curing agent will that "seal" so as not receive the stain? It is going to be March in North Texas. So not really worried about freezing. Thanks
Sounds like a cool project! Curing agents will definitely have an effect on how the stain penetrates & reacts. Possibly making the floor unstainable unless you remove the curing agent. Hi - After applying the sealer XS-327 as a prime coat and it dried in 12 hours, I noticed the concrete change color. The concrete was darker in some areas while normal in the other, creating a patchy look. Any suggestions on how to fix this so it's not blotchy?
Thanks for the comment! I don't have any experience with that sealer, but my guess is that the blotchy look is coming from sealer wetting out the color in some areas but not in the others. Most sealers will darken the color of the concrete and usually need at least two coats for a consistent look. I would check the instructions for that sealer to see what the re-coat options are. I'm guessing another coat will help, but some sealers need sanded before re-coating if more then 24 hours has passed since you applied the first one. Also, keep in mind that concrete is not always completely consistent in color. It will naturally go through a blotchy stage as it cures and sealer tends to magnify this. Hopefully, this helps. Experts - for radon mitigation install , contractor made a hole in concrete wall and filled the gap around the pipe both inside and outside of concrete wall with Alex Plus Latex Caulk Plus Silicone . Is this good or should I get sealing around pipe with a better product?

I stay in a townhome, and on my second floor is a French door with an outdoor patio (14 x 5). Water is penetrating at the joint where the balcony concrete slab meets the exterior brick wall. There are some cracks there that need to be addressed. I don't trust my HOAs contractor and wondering what you think may be the best route to address the cracks and stop the water coming in? (Leaks into my room below it)
Reached out to a couple companies, one has recommended taking up the entire patio to the sub-floor, and redoing the entire thing ...while others have recommended just laying down some liquid rubber. Thoughts? Been dealing with this for a long while and need some help haha
That's definitely a tough situation and some sort of water proofing is a must. Sika 1A would be a good thing to fill the cracks, then you could put down a water proofing membrane and fabric. I would also recommend running the fabric & membrane up the wall a few inches to address the transition between the horizontal vertical surfaces. After all that, you would have a few options for the final surface, concrete overlay, tile, or some kind of outdoor flooring. Concrete overlay and sealer is a nice option because it'll help the water run off better. Hopefully this helps, I leave a few links to these products below. Thanks for watching Deco-Crete TV!!!

Thanks for the comment! I would check the manufacture recommendations for the specific overlay product you used. Overlays cure out lot faster then full thickness concrete. Our overlay systems are generally ready to seal after 2-3 days. Thanks for watching Deco-Crete TV!!!
I would like to know when should i apply the sealer (for curing). Can i use right after demoulding( its a beam) the structure after 1 day. Can you recommend which type sealer is more suitable?
Normally on a flat slab you would apply the sealer/cure right after finishing. In the case of a beam, you'll have to wait till forms are pulled off, probably the next day after pouring. So when should your seal ? Right after the pour ? Like a day or two ? Or longer ?
it all depends on what you are hoping to achieve out of the sealer. a good rule to follow is: spraying the concrete with sealer the same day will act as more of a curing agent than a sealer. to get the most out of concrete sealers they should be applied to fully cured concrete.
Great Video! I have been doing some research and a lot of the product data sheets for cure and seals remind me of a bottle of body wash and shampoo promising several benefits in one application, but in my opinion... not doing either well. Do you know why these cure and seals can market their products as a one-and-done application?
Thanks for the comment!!! I don't have a great answer for why companies can do this. The products do what they say they do, just not all at the same time. The term "Cure & Seal" is common practice in the concrete industry. I'm about to never use sealer again. I'd rather not have issues w the sealer than have a layer of protection (even though every customer wants it) I think it would be better just to water cure it correctly, natural seal is the only sealer I have not had issues w.

if I waterproof my concrete patio will it make ice more likely to form on the surface? Would melting salt render the waterproofing useless?
Thanks for the comment! I wouldn't consider concrete sealers "waterproofing" they're more of a water repellant. A true waterproofing would hinder the breathability of the slab and would lead to problems down the road. Concrete sealers repel water from above but allow moisture from underneath to escape. Ice will from on top concrete sealer sooner then unsealed concrete, but that's better then ice forming in the concrete slab. Melting slats will definitely work, but some of them can be corrosive to the concrete, so make sure you check if it's "concrete safe" before using. Ice forming on top of sealed concrete really has no negative effects to the concrete, just slippery to walk on. Water getting into the slab, then freezing is where the problems start. The best thing you can do is leave the ice there unless you have use the area. The constant cycle of freezing & thawing can lead to more damage then just leaving it frozen. @@DecoCreteTV What's your opinion on those products like 'Alaska Liquid Ice Preventer'? It claims to prevent ice from forming on concrete but I wonder if it'll do anything to also help melt the snow that's on top of it.
@@ginsengroot815 I'm not familiar with that exact product, but we have used some ice-prevention products in the past. They work really good for prevention, but they don't seem to melt ice very well if it has already formed on the surface, especially if the temps are under 20 degrees.
After concrete poured, what is the earliest to apply sealant?
The safe answer is 30 days. That being said, it dose depend on what kind of sealer you're using. Penetrating sealers definitely need to go fully cured concrete, but film forming sealers are usually ok after a week or two. Some of this would also depend on the time of year. I'm waiting for my new concrete patio to cured and by the time it reached the 30 days period, it's going to be November and it has been cold and wet every day so doesn't look good. What's my option, wait until spring of next year? And what sealer would you recommend? Thanks!
@@chanthana7694 What sealer you should use would depend on how the concrete was finished. We recommend D-One for stamped or any other kind of decorative concrete and D-Shield for broomed or swirled finishes. I'll leave a few links at the bottom. As far as the timing, you'll just have to wait and see what the weather is like. We're based out of Ohio, and there are usually some decent days in November that you could get it sealed. If not, waiting until next spring isn't that big of a deal. The fact that it's a patio and won't get any vehicle traffic helps things out. My basement floor is constantly dusty. Can I do something to stop that?
Thanks for the comment! You could try applying concrete sealer. It will help the problem, but it's hard to know how long it would last. Dusting generally comes from a weak surface and sealer probably won't permanently stop it from happening. Densifiers can also help with this, but they can be hard to work with. New sub. Can you please help me, I need advise, ASAP🤯 I have a cement porch about 11’x18’. Anyway, it spalled after a really bad winter storm. It was about 7 years old. Anyway, I had it replaced this year. Well, now, when it rains, the cement bubbles, like going to the beach and sand crabs diving into the sand when the tide goes out, it bubbles. I contacted the company that poured it, they are ignoring me. I am afraid it will spall right away with all that air space🤯 Would sealing fix that, or do you have a suggestion please. This porch is taking me to the poor house🤯
