My RARE 1955 Chevy Nomad Is "Ruined!" FAILED Paintless Dent Repair

- Today we get back to our 1955 Chevy NEWmadd. This car has been sitting in the garage for a couple of weeks while I was waiting on parts. Figured it was time to dive in. First things first, we tackle the horrible hood and roof dents.
At some point in her life the hood flew back and damaged the rare 1 off roof. The hook was pretty badly crumpled as well. Luckily I have no skills but jumped right into the straitening out the sheetmetal. Honestly it came out pretty good! Who needs a professional PDR guy...
With the body pretty much laser straight.... I pull out the front seat and carpet to inspect the rust. We have a little work ahead of us, but i think we can do a pretty good job repairing the floors while keeping as much original metal as possible. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Keeping it as a survivor is great just having a 55 Nomad in this condition is amazing
No lie. I've only seen one or two in the Midwest. It's WAY to nice to mess with a lot. Survivor/resto-mod is th way to go.
My first car was a 57 in these same colors, bought at age 14 in 1967 for $200.00 I earned busing tables all summer! I learned to wrench on that car, so thanks for the memories! P.S. I guess I’m one of those “old timers” you were referring to when you looked at the hole in floor where a shifter might have been! Remember, we had little or no money and not a lot of tools! So creativeness was the rule of the day! Lol
Yea Robert, know what you mean. My first 57 was at 16 yrs old in 66. I paid 125 dollars for it. Learned a lot trying to get a car running so I wouldn’t have to ride the bus any more. Oh, yea. I’m one of the old timers that cut the hole in the floor for a floor shift. Dan is a wrenching machine. 👊😮👍
@@stomper2582 my first car was a 4 door 1968 Toyota corona I bought off my Pop's for $50.00 buck's. My Pop's bought it for a parts car. It was really nice looking car for the 1990s when the mini truck era was in. I made that little car look older than it was. I chop down a 1951 Buick grill with chrome BMW bumber guards on the front bumber to give it the 50 Buick grill look with Apple ton spot light's smoke tented window's with the stock hub caps with three prong knock offs white wall tires.
Dan, for a while there I thought you were going to do a MMA number on that hood. That would have been a Painful dent removal instead of a Paintless one! Now I'm so gladd( not SoMadd) you're looking at that jewel of a 55 to be a complete and tight car.A great winter work driver, for sure.
Yeah, those Tri5’s were so cheap in 1967, That I bought a 56 wagon for $50.00 from a friend. When I had 2 cars parked outside, my dad said pick one cuz no way we had enough room to park them. I stuck with 57! lol 14 year old thinking! One is good, 2 are better! lol Even in 1967, there was a great love for Tri5’s and were the main way a young guy could get a car cheap! The used car lots were full of them as well as 58’s, and 59’s….
I mentioned all the junk yards were full of these cars too! I bought a power glide for $50.00 and spent all winter putting it in my 57! I remember the driveway was cold! I had to learn the hard way about using a spline to line the tranny cuz you sure could bolt a power glide on without one! lol my dad had pity on me and had my car towed to transmission shop and in an hour, dropped and lined tranny and got me on the road! lol. When I turned 16, I traded that 57 in for a baby blue 67 Ford Mustang! I was in high cotton! I went to Vietnam in early 1972 and my dad sold that car for me……mistake! lol
When you twisted the hood and it buckled and you immediately cut to the commercial, I applauded... Perfect comic timing! Hood looks good too, boss... Love the Nomad; what a beauty! Maybe a lace top to go with the Cragars? Haha cheers from Alberta...
I don’t have a comment or a suggestion - I just have a pure appreciation of what you do.
Hey Dan 👋, great job on the dent removal. Always good to see Danielle out helping and having fun. Have a great day✌️
Saved you a lot of money 💰
It warms my heart to see youngsters being such good stewards of the classic car heritage 😊❤ keep up the good work,
Haha try. Not very hard, but I try
@DDSpeedShop I don't think the tow truck driver did that. The last time that happened to me and people I know. The hood took out the windshield as well. So much for the parts hood I needed. It was strapped. Somehow it lossened and we just noticed it leaving the the stop light. We were pulling over and away it went.
being a good steward of the car would be to store it in the winter and not to drive it in the snow
Don’t sell it
I'd still watch even if the title was "Barbarian Sasquatch hacks Tri 5 Hood" keep it up m8, your work is inspiring!
Ive enjoyed watching these two grow their channel over the last few years! Looking forward to watching these builds progress and to the future builds.
While watching this video I watched the count go from 4080 to 4455 in the first ten minutes ! DD SPEED SHOP is doing great ! I enjoy watching them too!
You did good on the hood. honestly you do great work !!!!!
Few people know, that the 1955 Chevrolet holds the record ,for the most popular car ever produced 1,775,952 .
That isn't bad Dan. CWM would certainly approve.
Authentic comes to mind. Love the Cragars!
This is such a beautiful car.
Cragar SS will make it perfect.
Take your time with this one because its a keeper
Yes Cragars and spinners Dan!! He’s and Hers Nomads Yep!!👍
I'll give credit where it's due. You did good work straightening this out.
I’m a big mopar guy but I do love the tri five I’m 62 my dad’s favorite car was a 55 your channel makes me think of him a lot he’s been gone 18 years so please keep doing what you do
The left-over dens add character. Leave 'em. I wrench a lot like you. It's all a labor of love.
Don’t sell yourself short Dan! I like the direction you’re going, you did a great job in salvaging the hood! The floorpans will be a challenge that I have no doubt you will overcome! Great job and Great Video!!👍👍
To this day, my 57 has the same butchered hole for the 4 speed.
When I was 17, all I had was a drill and tin snips..
No cutoff wheels back then.
Enjoy the channel, Dan and Danni..
We cannot that "custom" haha
And it still works!
" barbarian Sasquatch hacks Tri five hood" I'll never forget you said that!
The Nomad has character, make it safe and enjoy. The dings and dents, tell a story of its past life
So glad your taking your time with the nomad and taking precautions on getting her back to road worthiness.. it really is a beautiful car
Yeah it is a pretty sweet car. I'm digging on it
I love the interaction between D & D - Daniella: That's not my name! All in all, a car well up to DD Speed Shop standards.
The "Old Timers" were lit on Acid, when we worked on our cars. 🤣🤣🤣
Hey Dan if you heat that surface with a hair dryer the paint won't crack as bad when you're working on those dents.
I love these two projects you have. This nomad is so great. Your lucky to have two projects/ garages to go at once
Three on tree, when the bushings wore out, a floor shift was the easiest repair. The repair parts were not available. The floor shifters I put in did not look like that. I prided myself on how small of a hole I could get away with. No more than a 2" diameter hole. Ah, the good ole days.
To quote Peg, If you squint, its Mint! Looking Good, Brother! And keep up the great attitude,Danielle!
I have loved to see the look on Murs face watching this 1 lol
.... he would've been really impressed I'm sure..
We all have our dents, lol! Glad the bank bought a car you know how to fix, Dan.
I bought my ‘55 Belair hardtop forty years ago when I was a kid. I payed $3500 for it. I still have that car. It’s a survivor with the factory 265 and PowerGlide boat anchor. It’s my pride and joy.
Welcome to autobody YOGA with DAN. Some people call them "survivors"... Survived all the previous owners.
Haha
Dan you have struck gold!! With this one wow wat a rare find this has got to be next years cruise down threw the US !!!
Dani is hilarious and a quality foreman/project manager/director/producer/laugh-track. I think your tweaks are just fine and certainly improved its appearance greatly. 🤣😂👍❤️🔧
Thank you! I take my responsibilities very seriously!
She definitely has a GREAT PERSONALLITY but how can she not with DAN BEING AROUND, ALWAYS JOKING, LUV THE CHANNEL.
Dani is a Charm
Beautiful too
She's alright....
In the old days, we didn't have cutting wheels or air saws but, we did have the air chisels we used for cutting out mufflers.
Because of you, I have to go work on my 57 today. No rest for the wicked.
Love you, Dan , but that was painful to watch as an old body and paint guy!
I CAN'T IMAGINE HOW YOU FEEL.
@@NoWr2Run It was all good!
I just had to sit on my hands and fight the urge to say JUST LET ME DO IT!
( a me problem)
Agreed.....I have to look away... BUT DAN...FRIEND BUDDY PAL...WE FORGIVE YOU,AFTER ALL ITS JUST A CAR! RIGHT GUYS???
🤔🤔😁👍❤️🙏
A little patients even if that’s at a shortage !! A far cry from where it was to start with.
Thats kinda why I done it haha
DAN, I LOVE 💕 THAT THIS CAR HAS ALL THE BELLS AND WHISTLES THAT CAME FROM THE FACTORY! There's so much awesome chrome trim, A VERY BIG PLUS! Also, you can see that it's pretty much unmolested over the years and been taken care of in it's past. This is a really good car 🚗. Thanks for the video 📸.
Yes Dan don't molest it!
I love the look of the new Nomad Dan.
Wow, expert wrencher and PDR specialist.
Coming along great Dan. It’s going to make you such a nice car when you get it done. This one definitely a keeper. Awesome find. 👍😎✌️
Nice car. Be nice Dan. You have the skills 😮😮
EXACTLY, 100%.
I'm impressed! I knew you could SCHMUCK and SCHMOOZE, but I didn't know you could SCHMACK? Great job, OG all the way!
So you have a 'Summer' Nomad and a 'Winter' Nomad! Awesome!
We can’t judge you Dan because you are so humble! I’ve never seen nor heard you run your flag up a pole, unlike that Nova Scotia hack who thinks he’s all that and builds clown cars!
After Gonad chad had his meltdown on a car he bought but didn't inspect it completely then aired his incompetence on the tube I unsubscribed from his channel and haven't returned to it since.
You try to keep up with the hack!
Sackless Chad is a joke. He never finishes anything. He just shoves everything in a shed when he gets bored with it.
Chad is all about views. He makes his living from CZcams. He said that no one watches when he finishes builds. So he does a lot of start up heavy fab and repair to get the views.
@@jimmydeeson9037 Who is Chad ?
I'm a little dissapointed that you didn't name the vid "Barbarian Samskwatch Dent Repair" :)
Besides that, i'm amazed what you achieve with some solid logic, som trial and eror, experience, and a bunch of random tools!
Keep it up!
(Oh, and i think that Nomad might deserve some roof repair and a repaint on the top half)
It's going to look good with the Cragar wheels on it !!
You are never boring Dan. Do what you do best.; turn a piece of crap into something enjoyable..
This is great binge watching😊
Getting educated by "Professor Dan".. 😃 I'd bet 95% or more of us car guys would have tossed that hood. You have inspired me to try to repair the door of my Malibu over doing a door skin. Worth a try anyway. I've never done a door skin so if I can fix what's there, that might be better. My welder is in the shop being repaired so that's another incentive. Love the Nomad...actually, ALL of your projects. Keep up the good work.
Love the channel, keep up the great work! 👍
It does my heart good to watch you and Dani out in the garage laughing and enjoying yourselves, working on cars. Love your videos and content, always watching for the next one! I would much rather watchyou work in this environment than watch some "person" in a warehouse garage magically putting stuff together skipping all the crucial steps that diy guys like us would need to see to accomplish the same tasks. Your stuff is real, there's isn't.
Hey, Dan, out of people water just went and found another hood. I have respect for you trying to fix it. Don’t listen to the people to complain. I think they just go find another CZcams channel. I actually like what you do.
Put a garage door on the back of each shop. It’ll make your life easier
Good thought but, he would lose valuable wall space which I doubt that he wants to give up.
Connect them, and knock out both back walls... 🤯
@@fruitfarmfords8243
Unfortunately zoning would probably not allow that.
@@Tim-57 Probably right
Those side views of the Nomad just make it all worth while, beautiful car, that blue does like good.
No denying it, we've all been there: "Where's the cleanest hammer?" :D :D Love it.
I like your logic. Many years ago I had to replace the siding on my house. My neighbor paid some crew to slap up vinyl siding. After watching them I decided my best effort far exceeded their half assed attempt. When you do it yourself you know if/when/where any short cuts were taken and you accept that. Thanks for sharing all your hard work.
I had the exact same "hood incident" happen to my 56 210 wagon in 1985-ish. The main hood latch failed on mine at about 60mph. Drove the bird trough the roof panel. Trust me, it's a thing! All I can say is thank god for the wraparound windshield design and good communication with the co-pilot. For me it was a sunroof (to delete the bird perforations), a new hood and real hood pins forever more. Many Many Many fond memories in that car.
I've seen PDR guys in action in person and they are AMAZING! I only wish they had existed back in the day when I was working on oldies......they would have been on speed dial. Cost be damned. They are trained in the sequence of dent removal; I always did what seemed right, but these gurus work differently than a layman. For the roof dent, try either suction cups or the glue on kits that you mentioned - leave the headliner alone.
PDR is amazing but I am pretty sure the metal is a bit thicker on a 55 rather than what I have seen
Man those dents just popped out to easy that's a man of talent 😂
I think the cragars with some nice white letter tires would look absolutely sweet on that car but please don't use any stupid lowering blocks and ruin the ride
10 Mins. in REPLACE THE HOOD, DAN.
That car deserves it.
ONWARD
ALWAYS want to watch your vids. & AUTOMATICALLY GIVE A THUMBS UP, IMMEDIATELY, ( DON'T LET ME REGRET IT, DAN ).
You are NOT A HACK OR A BUTCHER, WAIT WAIT, YOU HAVE THE SKILLS, THE NO HOW, ON THESE TRI 5'S.
But sometimes you just don't do it as it SHOULD BE, YOU DO IT THE DD SPEED SHOP WAY.
This car needs a bit better way & you seem to be doing that with the floor, FREAKIN NICE.
YOU WORK YOUR ASS OFF, KNOCK OUT VIDS. LEFT & RIGHT FOR US !
LOVE THE CHANNEL, LOVE YOUR HUMOR, LOVE YOUR WORK ETHIC & ( MOSTLY ) LOVE HOW YOU DO THINGS.
MY DOG & ME GIVE YA AN A- OVER ALL & ME DAG IS PRETTY STRICT, SIR DAN.
You know who would be the right guy to work those hood and roof dents out while saving as much paint as possible? Cold War Scott. A road trip/collab is in order when that car is sorted.
Outstanding job, Dani nailed it……..”MINT!” 😂😂😂 Y’all keep doin you! Love watching you two!! Thanks for the laughs😊
You spent zero money and made huge improvements. Bravo.
Loved the "Butcher Paper" comment. Whatever people say, you have saved so many Tri-fives with your channel, it's amazing. Please keep on keeping.
Progress is Progress no matter witch way .. 😎Todays episode reminds me of the song " If I had a Hammer "
Here for support
Hey Dan
Awesome work on the hood, went from; cpr to chiropractic to plastic surgery. Great job filming Dannie.
Take care of Yourselves 😊
Great video Dan. You are one lucky man. I don't know of many women that would enjoy hanging out with a guy that wrenches on their cars. You two are the most adorable couple on you tube.
She enjoys watching me struggle up close and personal haha
In white out snow, I had a hood come up on a 67 impala. The hinge springs went flying. Good times! Smitty
I actually gasped when you we're twisting the hood, kinda funny. I've fixed dents in roofs using a suction cup and light rubber hammer, just set the cup and tap around the edges of the dent and it comes right out. Enjoy your work and play
The way I would describe the Nomad is that it's presentable.
Good decision Dan, keep as much original metal as possible, and make a reliable safe driver. IT'S COOL
Such a clean nomad Dan!!! Can't wait to see u out cruisin it!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I really love this car, the blue with the white roof combo just looks bang on.
Regal Turquoise, I ndia Ivory
i love the names mfg's give colours lol@@edwardalamo2507
Shes gonna shine once shes buffed and juiced...👍👍
Cant wait to see how the Cragers are gonna look...👍👍
Not FAILED my man. Love your attitude with it & love the car!!
When you first started twisting on that hood you reminded me of my chiropractor working on me , he uses a dog blanket also. Keep the car the way you want it to be in your vison.
Yes I am judging and taking medication so I am watching that's a plus😢
Hey Dan, If the car didn't look like that when you bought it, I would make a call to the place where you got it. You pay good money for something nice and it gets delivered damaged. I would be raising hell. That's just me.
I think the car is awesome, along with all your other cars.
Love your channel and videos. Take care and be safe.
Dan, is too much to ask for? A daily video to watch when I get home from work? Your channel is the best thing on TV. I'm an older hot rodder that doesn't want to spend the money or scrape the nuckles on cars anymore. You're channel is the best I've found. Thank you!
I mean... 3 videos a week plus the content on Moreschmoo is a lot ha ha! He's got a full time job remember!
@@moreschmoo in his spare time 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The Karl reference was gold !
great job - from disaster to totally serviceable
Well done Dan. I like the way you take it slow and easy. Steady wins the race.
Man I love this car. Cragars will make it look absolutely awesome. Love it Dan..
Take it to Scott at CWM! He does magic with a wooden mallet!
Barbarian Sasquatch hacks Tri5 hood I love it Dan, being Australian I identify as a Hairy.Bunyip myself
love the video's Dan and Danny
Thankyou for all the effort you put into them.

That is a really nice car. I'm totally with you on leaving it original. It looks really good the way it is.
It's a Monday and and a crappy day at work and this sure made me laugh. Thanx.
Glad we could make Monday suck less!❤
Dan I know we it's a stupid question..but have you ever thought of fixing up your dad's favorite car and surprise him..he is great dude and love when he comes on show for his knowledge..love the show..
Love the old School look, great job dan
Were on the same wave length Dan! I've been driving my 58 Apache pickup for 30 years, doing all the work on days off! So I can Keep On Trucking!
Dan! Quick hack tip from an old time hot roder try a toilet plunger on the roof to try to pull that Dent out. It’s worked in the past and it’s free.
Go Dan, The floor pan man! good job on the hood!
Love the Nomads.
Quite a few years ago my ex and I stopped at a yard sale, I happened to notice a few cars in the garage and asked the old gentleman about them he invited me inside and pulled the covers off. He had all 3 years Nomads in beautiful condition. I don't recall if they had been restored.
I would buy it right now. It's a buetiful car. I can never find something like that at auction.
Home garage built Nomad. Perfect. Mine is not perfect, and it never will be. I just can’t justify spending a gazillion dollars on a car I would be scared to drive! Look forward to the progress.
Dan, I really love 💕 that sweet sweet 🧁 Nomad! (Both of them) ps/ your a cool guy, you deserve all the Vintage cool in the world 🌎.
Used those glue on Amazon deals on my kid's Caddy... Worked pretty good!! Keep getting after her bud!!
When i think 'I wish my 57 wasn't so bad' I remember i couldn't afford it otherwise! lol
