The Birth Of A Tool. Part I. Axe Making (by Northmen)

- This is a short documentary movie that shows the whole process of how Northmen tools are being hand crafted.
"It is a tragedy of the first magnitude that millions of people have ceased to use their hands as hands. Nature has bestowed upon us this great gift which is our hands. If the craze for machinery methods continues, it is highly likely that a time will come when we shall be so incapacitated and weak that we shall begin to curse ourselves for having forgotten the use of the living machines given to us by God."
Mahathma Ghandi
Music by Foreign Fields - "Names and Races". Special thanks to the band Foreign Fields from Nashvile (especially for Clayton Fike) for allowing to use their music as a soundtrack for our movie. foreignfields.bandcamp.com/

"Rangers Lead the Way"
Thank you for your service.
The world melts away watching these videos... thx for the escape...
For me, this is the manliest video on internet!
After 5 years since I came across to this video, I've found it again. The first time I watched it, I did not know what career to study and by the end I was convinced to study Industrial design (I don't know why I linked design whit this video at that time) and now five years later Im at one year of finishing my career. So thanks a lot!
Heeey could you be studying InDes in Zaragoza bro?
You´re never finished. You learn new things every day.
I just came back after a handful of years and realized this was my inspiration to start a small woodshop! 4 years strong at realizing my dream.
Your videos are better than 99% of hollywood movies that are churned out every year.
Watched this video years ago… I go back to it again and again whenever I need a reset.
Your home, forge, your shop... I couldn't be more jealous! Your living my life man!!!!
It never ceases to amaze me...how do videos like this get dislikes? True craftsmanship...thanks for sharing.
Awesome. Snowboard all morning and then work in the shop well into the evening...winning!
wow, I don't know why this videos make me feel so relaxed, so zen, so peaceful...
I love your videos! Been watching them for 10 years now.. wow, time flies yet stand still. All at the same time! Thank you for keeping me sane!
Have watched this about 20 times over the years and the only way to describe it is a beautiful edit with outstanding craftsmanship
Totally cool. Skilled in different trades;metalworking(blacksmithing), woodworking, and leather working. Hats off.
Thank you for a fantastic video..True craftsmanship. I use Northmen videos for relaxing meditation
FINALLY somebody who makes an axe handle with the grain oriented in the proper direction!! Beautiful piece of work. Now I want to make one myself.
I'm absolutely speechless. The quality of this video is amazing.
10 year ago i watch this...still the best axe making asmr
Had to search for a few minutes but i found this video again as i do ever so often. This video lives in my head rent free, forever.
I for one would never underestimate the importance of a good hand-axe/hatchet when in the wilderness. Something so many ppl view as a household implement has saved my ass on more than one occasion. That thing is a beauty! Sending love from the bayous of Louisiana! Love the music too
For the crew of Neeman Tools: I work with production of advertising films and I am a connoisseur of cutlery. Honestly, the series "The Birth of a Tool" are the best movies I saw on the topic. Besides adding value to the art of ancient technique, adds value to the end product Neeman Tools. Very inspiring!
I love a few things about these videos: Great Music. No Robot Voice. Beautiful Filming. Great Subjects
Absolutely majestic! Just pure ecstasy!
These people are making my next axe. It will last for generations and serve us well. Thank you guys!
Cracking videos, superb tools and beautiful music.
Your past is a gift for this channel, good job.

Absolutely stunning!
Beautiful! I'm incredibly impressed!
I love this video. I find it so relaxing to watch. The music compliments it perfectly and it makes me want to go into my shop and create something.
The process is beyond beauty; this craftsmanship is spiritual. I must come back to this every three months or so, and I am both enamored to see the product of true craft and saddened I have none.
.. In another time..
Very nicely filmed and calming music
Thank you so much. Somethings work better without words. Love it.
I love watching this video.
What an awesome video! I loved every minute of it. I'm highly impressed.
This was simply beautiful. Thank you.
Your videos introduced me to foreign fields!!! Years later and I still remember the first time listening to this! It's almost like I get transported to a beautiful snowtop ped alpine haven.

Top quality video. Thanks. Loved it.
Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful!!!
This is Real Art.
Thanks for showing me this Amazing Art.
This video only shows a tiny fraction of the time that goes into that masterpiece of an ax. This is the result of taking pride in your craft!
Excellent workmanship...Thank you for the video.
Wonderful craftsmanship!
Just gives me another reason to watch it again. I think the music works well. I love when you pull the blade back from polishing it and it edge looks like it's encased in glass. What you do is an art form of functional beauty.
I seen this video when you first uploaded it and it inspired me to chase my dreams and to reclaim a heritage lost in my family for two generations if it hadn’t been lost I would be a 7th generation blacksmith thank you and keep banging that hammer
Stunning craftsmanship and beautiful videos!
Exceptionally well done in every respect. It restores my faith in humanity that such skills are not entirely lost among us, that the true craftsmanship of my youth still exists, and especially that such adept young people of a generation or more behind mine are the master practitioners of the fine old arts, and willing to share their skills with others. Carry on smartly. Today's culture is starved for true steersmen, the 'real' instead of 'virtual', for quality instead of 'good-enough', and for the tangible touch of human hands, minds and hearts, rather than the cold, valueless, disposability of machines.
A most beautiful process and a beautiful end product... could bring a tear to your eye!
Beautiful in all ways!!
now thats what you call home, awesome mate,
Amazing video of an amazing axe.
Incredible. Music selection was on point. Beautiful video.
That axe is a thing of beauty, the work of a true artisan. It's inspiring to know this kind of craftsmanship is still out there.

Stunning!!!
The music makes me all calm and in zen mode, but listening to the hammer and anvil and watching the tool come to life makes me want to go build a log cabin... with my teeth..... like a man!!!

Just awesome and what craftsmanship.
Seriously amazing shots!! Props 🙌🏼
I could watch the whole video without the music and just be swept away by the natural sounds alone.
I agree. The Music deducted a little from the video
Very magical. Thank :)
Superbe travail. Merci pour le partage.
Good video.Beautiful scenery..........Just beautiful...Very relaxing ..TQ
Maybe I'm alone in this, but I actually find that most of the beauty of this film lies within the artisan craft itself. I'm unabashedly fascinated by their work. I'm definitely alone on this one, but I also feel that the Foreign Fields track is more fitting than the Bon Iver track. I love how the first 4 minutes are quieter and more contemplative, allowing for the sounds of the work to take over. The build happens at the perfect time when the tool comes together. I don't know, I sure liked it.
Beautiful work realy amazing
Speechless...
You are truly an inspiration, this video captures your life so well, it makes you feel as if you are there as the tool is being created. Great choice in music, it really sets the vibe.
Thanks for making my day!
Great video... well shot!!
