    Personally I only apply for cards that have a pre approval process. I’ve never been pre approved and then denied on their website. Capital One, Apple, Mission Lane, Navy Federal, Discover Amex etc have pre approval process on their websites. Helps gauge where you are.

    That point about applying for cards with banks you have a relationship with already is huge! That definitely helped me when I applied and was approved for cards with B of A and Wells Fargo. Definitely look at the card lineups at banks you have banked or invested with for some time, it does help.

    Elan cards (owned by US Bank) available at many CUs & small banks
    Synchrony Premier MC or Paypal MC
    Most Platnium (not AmEx) or balance transfer cards

    the Platinum card is tier 1 good card for starting out.
    Apple one is a poor credit card I give the store card 0.01 stars and the visa/mastercard 0.75 stars?
    what kind of credit is needed to get the Lake Michigan card 8.94 interest rate and First Simmons bank about 7.94 % rate?
    Chase Slate came out about the same time as the Sapphire the Basic and the regular?
    Quick silver is there cash back card?
    if you ask me American Express has no charge cards they have revolving credit cards and open credit cards.
    I would say same credit score , on the credit report they don't list the level you have they list the type of loan .
    yes a person with a 650 credit score can get a platinum if they want one. A janitor who doesn't make alot of money can get any credit card.
    the more the history the easier it is to get some card, history is important but it's not the only thing.

    My current issue with credit is that I just got a job after spending some months unemployed/recovering after a hospital stay last year and can't list income really to apply or acquire another card to build credit. My utilization is pretty high but I'm starting soon and not sure how quickly my score will climb after I pay off the card. Debating on waiting to pay off that card in full or getting a new card to increase credit amt/lower credit utilization. Most of the cards I've seen here dont seem like they fit that niche. My score isnt horrible by any means but its near the mid 600's not sure what to do atm.

    • @markbeiser
      @markbeiser Před rokem

      It may be worth looking at an unsecured personal loan to consolidate the credit cars onto, if you can get an interest rate that is significantly lower than your credit cards, then work on paying off the loan as quickly as possible.
      Not only will it save you money, and lock you into a fixed time frame to pay it off, but it will improve your credit by lowering your utilization, and diversifying your account types.
      Just don't load up the credit cards again.

    I`m almost up to a 600 credit score according to Experian. I`m rebuilding my credit from 4 years ago when I couldn`t pay because of being in an auto accident. I can`t apply to the major cards because I had them. Including Walmart Mastercard, Krogers, Best Buy. I`m done with secured cards I had 2 I canceled 1 and getting ready to do the same to the other. I have 5 others unsecured but low limits, 300-350 dollars. What to do? What say you?

    • @dofzion1998
      @dofzion1998 Před 2 lety +1

      What secured cards do you currently have. I would say stay away from credit one, first premier and cards along that line. A secured card with a reputable company like discover or BoA if you don’t have a Credit Union relationship is probably your best bet. Why? Because you can always convert those cards to an unsecured card once you show great payment history. Have you had capital one? They are also good as well. Think long term. Is this card something I want to have in my wallet 7 years from now? Because if it’s not then don’t waste your time. Depending on where you are with your credit card journey cancelling a card 7 years from now that you get today may impact your credit score negatively. But if you get cards that are keepers then you can always product change an upgrade when your credit improves. 🙂

      I also remember getting this card when I was rebuilding my credit about 8 years ago. When you have little to no credit and your credit score is bad, you will be happy with getting just about ANY credit card. I still have the credit card, BUT with that being said, my credit has now improved more now that I’m understanding more about credit and I frankly don’t find this card beneficial as it offers me nothing compared to the cards that I now have that give me cash back etc. Merrick Bank has been great for rebuilding but I’m going to close it soon as they charge me an 8 dollar monthly fee just for having the card. So if I never use it I’m just throwing away 8 dollars a month. It’s one of my oldest cards so I debated about closing it, BUT the history of the card won’t fall off for 7 years after I’ve closed it so I probably won’t see the effects of my decision for seven years and I’ve saved myself roughly $700. 🙂 what’s your experience with them?

      look at. Do you have too many credit cards? Unable to confirm identity, late payments with others recently, no credit at all are some things they look at depending on the creditor but there are a few that look at how many new accounts open recently such as Chase has the 5/24 rule. I do noticed capital one looks at how much debt you have to determine credit limit. My wife and l have same credit score she doesn't have but a small credit card debt l have alot. Absolutely. Stick to Experian. My CK score is 764. My Experian is 703. Have applied for cards and whether I was approved or denied the application always used my Experian score. Credit karma is more to help have an idea if your score is improving or worsening and is faster to show new inquiries or changes to your credit. Also helps and gives you tips on what to do to improve. But not accurate. 95% of lenders will use your Experian score. Also most people have higher credit karma scores than Experian.
