  • A top Hamas political official told The Associated Press the Islamic militant group is willing to agree to a truce of five years or more with Israel and that it would lay down its weapons and convert into a political party if an independent Palestinian state is established along pre-1967 borders. The comments by Khalil al-Hayya in an interview Wednesday came amid a stalemate in months of cease-fire talks. (AP video and production by Mehmet Guzel) Read more here: bit.ly/3QgQGb3

Listen very carefully to what he says, and check whether he said anything that commits him to the permanent existence of Israel. You'll find that he didn't. They can talk about temporary "truces" with Israel, but never recognition of Israel or permanent solutions that include Israel, because they're still ultimately committed to the destruction of Israel. It's the one thing they never lie about directly. The farthest they'll go is to say things that will cause you to infer what you wish they were saying. Read their charter, though -- there's no mistaking their commitment to the ultimate destruction of Israel. To him, the establishment of a Palestinian state alongside Israel, under a temporary truce, is a step that provides a sovereign platform for preparing for the ultimate invasion and destruction of Israel once the truce expires. He's unwilling even to lie and say otherwise.

    It's possible that Hamas is avoiding direct language to sidestep confrontation with the United States. Hence, they may have opted for the term " two-state solution."

    • @canitbethat
      @canitbethat Před 25 dny +1

      Did you hear (or see in the subtitles) the term "two-state solution?" I didn't. I think that's an interpretation added to the headline by AP, not something he actually said. To say that would be to propose recognizing the State of Israel, something that Hamas has said they would never do. So I don't think we're going to hear a Hamas spokesman use a term like that.

    • @TruthBeTold6573
      @TruthBeTold6573 Před 24 dny

      The difference between the “two-state solution” and Hamas’ peace proposal is that the “two-state solution” is supposed to be a permanent solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict that requires the Palestinians and the Arab states to recognize Israel’s “right to exist” and normalize relations with it, which Hamas refuses. The Arab peace initiative proposed by Saudi Arabia in 2002, which Hamas has never actually accepted, only requires the Israelis to withdraw from Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem. The truce that Hamas offers Israel is supposed to be only temporary. Hamas will never negotiate or have any kind of peace deal with the Israelis without involving all Palestinian factions. Hamas will only accept an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders on a national consensus and without recognizing “Israel” or normalizing relations with it, which the Palestinians are not actually required to do.
