- A top Hamas political official told The Associated Press the Islamic militant group is willing to agree to a truce of five years or more with Israel and that it would lay down its weapons and convert into a political party if an independent Palestinian state is established along pre-1967 borders. The comments by Khalil al-Hayya in an interview Wednesday came amid a stalemate in months of cease-fire talks. (AP video and production by Mehmet Guzel) Read more here: bit.ly/3QgQGb3

The Hamas guy doesn't say "two-state solution" but your headline says "two-state solution." Why do you do this?
You're absolutely right. Terrible journalism here.
He's talking about a Palestinian state, alongside Israel, so of course it's a two-state solution that he's referring to. You can infer this from what he says. This is why.
@@canitbethat Absolutely wrong, actually. Great journalism.
@@startrain1 Exactly -- he's allowing you to infer it, but never actually saying it. Listen very carefully to what he says, and check whether he said anything that commits him to the permanent existence of Israel. You'll find that he didn't. They can talk about temporary "truces" with Israel, but never recognition of Israel or permanent solutions that include Israel, because they're still ultimately committed to the destruction of Israel. It's the one thing they never lie about directly. The farthest they'll go is to say things that will cause you to infer what you wish they were saying. Read their charter, though -- there's no mistaking their commitment to the ultimate destruction of Israel. To him, the establishment of a Palestinian state alongside Israel, under a temporary truce, is a step that provides a sovereign platform for preparing for the ultimate invasion and destruction of Israel once the truce expires. He's unwilling even to lie and say otherwise.

I pray that you resume talks and come to a conclusion.
Where did he say Hamas would lay down arms if they become a state? He said the Hamas fighters and weapons would become the national army of this new state, literally the opposite of laying down arms.
Just like the IDF was birthed from the terrorist group Haganah 🤷🏽♀️
Since when is it prohibited for any country to have a national army?😂
@@user-vu6vu7fp5s Who said it was? The AP in the video title said they would lay down arms, the guy in the video said they would not. I pointed out the discrepancy .
@@Alex_reH So yeah, Hamas' military wing will be dismantled and a national Palestinian army will be built in its place
@@user-vu6vu7fp5s Which is a contradiction in reality, What is the functional difference between the armed wing of Hamas (which is just a government of an unrecognized region) and the armed wing of a recognized Palestinian state? Who is going to serve as soldiers in this army? Swiss mercenaries? Arms are not being laid down, they are being rebranded. Not that it matters because Gaza having arms shouldn't be the issue, it's what they do with them that should be the issue. Also this is about the video and it's terrible title, which doesn't mention Israel or US stances only the words of this Hamas leader. And he said that a 2 state solution would buy a 5 or more year truce, not a laying down of arms.
That was either translated poorly, or this guy is a terrible communicator. He didn't finish a single thought. No wonder things are such a mess over there.
There was some mistranslations and some of what he said was not translated.
Nah..
Your hours are limited and negotiation is over.

It's possible that Hamas is avoiding direct language to sidestep confrontation with the United States. Hence, they may have opted for the term " two-state solution."
Did you hear (or see in the subtitles) the term "two-state solution?" I didn't. I think that's an interpretation added to the headline by AP, not something he actually said. To say that would be to propose recognizing the State of Israel, something that Hamas has said they would never do. So I don't think we're going to hear a Hamas spokesman use a term like that.
The difference between the “two-state solution” and Hamas’ peace proposal is that the “two-state solution” is supposed to be a permanent solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict that requires the Palestinians and the Arab states to recognize Israel’s “right to exist” and normalize relations with it, which Hamas refuses. The Arab peace initiative proposed by Saudi Arabia in 2002, which Hamas has never actually accepted, only requires the Israelis to withdraw from Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem. The truce that Hamas offers Israel is supposed to be only temporary. Hamas will never negotiate or have any kind of peace deal with the Israelis without involving all Palestinian factions. Hamas will only accept an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders on a national consensus and without recognizing “Israel” or normalizing relations with it, which the Palestinians are not actually required to do.

How is this guy still slive? Where is Massad?
Too late rockchucker
Israel started the war, with 7 decades of occupying Palestinian land and harassing the locals.
It's never to late for justice.
Wise comments, the international community should take this opportunity to end the violence and create 2 states. If not, things will get worse for both,. The world is changing, no longer can colonial occupiers rule people. Modern technology and defence equipment is removing the earlier advantages that US and Israel enjoyed.
He's not proposing two states. He's proposing to create a Palestinian state with no recognition of Israel, Israeli withdrawal to borders that would be difficult to defend, and a five-year truce to form an alliance with Iran and build up military forces, to be followed by an invasion as soon as the truce expires. He knows it, Israel knows it, and I'm guessing you probably know it, too.
@@canitbethat this is a very pessimistic view... No one wants violence... Just like India & Pakistan... Let both Israel and Palestenian people live in peace
@@shahinamukadam2233 I'll admit to pessimism if you'll admit to optimism. :-) You're saying that "no one wants violence," presumably including Hamas, less than seven months after Oct. 7. After the Oct. 7 attack, their own spokesman said that they wanted to do it again and again until Israel is destroyed. I personally want Israel and the Palestinian people to live in peace, just as you do. I acknowledge though, that not everyone believes Israel should exist, and that many are willing to do violence to try to eliminate it. This has been the mission of Hamas since their founding, as they said themselves in their own charter.
@@shahinamukadam2233it's not "pessimistic" it's the truth. All this "truce" is meant to do is to re group themselves And then they will attack after five years. They said they wouldn't even recognize Israel as a state.
Of course Hamas wants violence. If they didn't, they wouldn't have put a limit to their "truce" for only 5 years and a refusal to call Israel a state. Their goal is still to destroy Israel
In your dreams.

Not just a two state solution, he wants the right of return, which has always been the exact problem. This guy doesn’t want peace. He wants endless war, endless sympathy and endless money 😴
So... people wanting to go back home is a problem? Why and for whom?
It's not just a right of return that Hamas wants. They want the overthrow of Israel, and they never say otherwise. Although they are liars in many other respects, for some reason, they are unwilling to lie about this. It's why they can never recognize Israel, and can only discuss temporary truces, never permanent solutions that include Israel. In the end, they're committed to overthrowing Israel, and remarkably, this goal means so much to them that they can't even lie about it.
He wants the overthrow of Israel. Hamas has been very clear about this, and he's still not saying otherwise. This goal is so important to Hamas that they are unable to lie about it directly. They can only talk about temporary "truces" never permanent solutions that include Israel, because in the end, they're still committed to overthrowing it.
@@canitbethat and what's your specific problem with that?
@@T.efpunkt because millions of people live there? Israel has fought for and won their ancestral homeland. It’s their land, simple as that. If Palestinians practiced pacifism they would have had a state 50 years ago, instead they choose violence and lose every time.
What would you expect to happen to the 9.5 million inhabitants of Israel? (2.1 million of them Arabs)?
