I have a 70 F250, debating the crown Vic swap. I have a FE 390 that needs head work. It will cost $3000 for aluminum heads and aluminum intake manifold. That is for those parts alone. It’s pretty easy to see the allure of the LS if you aren’t married to the brand.
I have a question and I apologize if this is a dumb question .. If you just do the front clip, does this mean your front lug pattern will not be the same as the rear? Is the rear just a simple axle swap or is there more to it? If you want to save this question for another video you can.
So on a stock 1972 for example the rear bolt pattern is 5x5.5 so yeah it’s off by a bit. So a few options 1. Retain the stock 9" rear, modifying or replacing the axles to obtain a 5 X 4.5" bolt pattern and converting the stock drums to disc brakes. Adding a rebuilt center section with pos-traction is a nice extra. 2) Swap in a '95 or newer 59.5" 8.8" Explorer rear axle. Lots of plusses here such as 31 spline axles, pos-traction, etc. 3) Use the '03 or newer CV rear which is also an 8.8 but considerably wider (67") than the Explorer. #2 seems to be the most common option as the 8.8 explorer rear end is pretty strong. Maybe not 9” strong but strong enough non the less.

Hey, I've got a 77 f100 with the flareside bed. I'm doing the CV front subframe swap. I'm also considering swapping the rear axle for a CV 8.8. How does it fit with your bed and wheels? I'm hearing mixed answers of some saying it's too wide and some saying it's not. I'm guessing this is coming down to different people's wheel choice. I've got a set of 2015+ Mustang wheels that I had on my 2011 CV so I know they'll fit the CV suspension and axle. I just don't know yet if they'll fit within the fenders. I also already have an explorer 8.8, but not sure yet if it'll be too narrow when used in conjunction with my mustang wheels. I'll figure it out eventually when I start working on the back half, but any insight would be appreciated.
So the bed in my truck was widened to fit the crown Vic chassis. I have the stock rear end from the crown Vic as well so it’s hard to say what will fit and what won’t since every application is different. My wheels are also custom and I’m not running any spacers but spacers are always an option for a lot of people. I think it’s just going to be trial and error to see what works and what doesn’t and what you like visually and don’t.

You can use a rear end out of a ford 1998 explorer it's a 8.8 rear end and Posey most of them same Bolt pattern as the crow Vic

And if you have a 91-95 ford body mounts you can use them on a crown Vic frame because the mounts are almost the same as 67

I know American Autowire makes a kit. I really need to update the wiring in my truck as well.

I’m actually located in AZ. A shop in Texas did the CV swap. I don’t know any shops in Colorado unfortunately although I’m sure there are some.
