      Gael was tasked to bring the blood of the dark soul to his niece, meaning the vivid blood from the body of a carrier of the dark soul. When he arrived at the ringed city he found that all of this blood had dried up. In order for that kind of blood to reapear, he had to engulf the dark soul he found to revitalize it in his own vains as so to deliver it his niece. But oh no. He knew he could not tame the dark soul. He knew he would fall under it's influence. He knew he would not be able to fulfill his task by himself. He sacrificed himself, having complete knowledge of what was to come, with the hope that someone else would kill him and take his now darkened blood to the painting lady. He had planed this all along

      Wrong, Manus was the pygmy, and he absorbed it. When his tomb was disturbed, the Dark Soul (or Shadow, or Dark Flame if you wish) reacted to the Fire, light and life that intruded on it's concealment and grew to match it. Manus himself got roused and controlled by it, but he held a good chunk of it's essence in him.
      The Flame of Izalith was trying to feed and grow but a fraction of the original flame back to full, but since that would break the balance, it mutated into an abomination.

    (Video and game spoilers ahead)
    Did anyone happen to see the images on the partitions surrounding Father Ariandel? After you kill Friede the first time and he uses the fire to bring her back, those partitions are shown burning away, so you have to look before you talk to the good Father.
    The images depict two towering, shadowy figures looming down on a field of bones--and two serpents. One of the shadowy giants has reached down and caught one of the snakes in his/her hand (possibly killing it--it looks wounded, or bleeding from the mouth to me), while the other serpent seems to be fleeing.
    My personal thoughts? Frampt and Kaathe, of course, especially with the Japanese translation of Yuria's dying words indicating that Kaathe is dead. Whether or not that's canon, I don't know, but that's what immediately came to mind.
    I'd really like to hear thoughts from others, and if I may, request a thumbs up. I'd really like Vaati to be aware of this, in case it holds any decent relevance for a lore video.

I dunno, this DLC is great though, and does raise quite a few questions.

    • @mira12825
      @mira12825 Před 7 lety +8

      She's unlikely to be related to Friede, I think it's more likely for her to be related to priscilla. If you look closely at the white haired girl's face, you can see her eyes are that of a snake or some other reptile and she has scales at the base of her neck. This makes her likely to be similar to Priscilla in that she may also be a crossbreed.
      Also, I'm not sure of friede's hair since I haven't paid enough attention to it, but it doesn't seem white, however, Priscilla has white hair.
      Furthermore, the blanket she has over her when we find her after killing Vilhelm seems, to me, very similar to the white robe of Priscilla. This might be wrong though sa I doubt she'd throw it away and I couldn't find it anymore after she moved to the chapel.

Exactly what I want from my Dark Souls games, an area where I feel like it's not about hordes of enemies or difficulty, but about making me think "wait why are these dudes not even fighting back? the hell is this? am I colossal jerkass for killing these poor guys?". Then throw in some Bloodborne enemies in there to remind me about that difficulty part. Then unveil the lore slowly to make me understand wtf is going on with the area. Then you see the poor things try to desperately fight you with clumsy plunge attacks. The guys who tried to be sorcerers were awesome, seeing them pewpew slowly with their wands then pop out homing soulmass that made a total of 3 orbs, suggesting that they absolutely suck at sorcery. Glorious.

    When she says 'The Dark Soul of Man' that is a moment that gives you shivers. I was wondering how DLC was going to work with this game, and after finishing it I was wondering where else it had to go seeing as I only ever did the default ending. But, it seems that this world is far from over. Soon we'll go to Londor, and hopefully, not all, but most of our questions are answered. I don't want this series to ever answer EVERY question because that would take the fun out of it!

      Well she could be somewhat similar to Shannalotte. The white haired girl has reptilian features which could mean that, like Priscilla, she could be in part dragon and, as Shannalotte tells us after revealing her name, she is born of dragon, so it could be that all three of them share a connection through all of them having at least one dragon parent. The white haired girl also has the same white hair as Priscilla which is a rare hair color in the dark souls universe with, as far as I know, only these two possessing it.

    • @Koronel79
      @Koronel79 Před 7 lety +121

      Sir Vilhems knows very well the effect of the toll of the Bell of Awakening. Thats the reason why all the bells are down in Painted World: To prevent a new Unkindled to awake and try to vanquish the Lord of Cinder.
      The only thing that tells us Ariandel is a Lord of Cinder is his relation with Elfriede, an Unkindle. But also I think Ariandel could be a very weird Lord of Cinder because of this facts:
      - Sister Friede and Ariandel shares the same boss bar. The only boss that has that trait is Abyss Watchers. So it means both of them have the same soul?
      - When you defeat Ariandel, there is no message of "Lord of Cinder Fallen". The only message you receive is "Heir of Fire Destroyed" after you defeated Blackflame Friede.
      - The way Sister Friede rise to her second and third forms reminds me the Lords of Cinders catching fire. Ariandel doesnt have a second form. He just bites the dust when you defeat him.
      Ariandel is not a Lord of Cinder, but maybe he was. And because Ariandel looks like a hollow, I believe the vessel of his soul is Sister Friede. Maybe both souls are joined together: Sister Friede has powers like a Lord of Cinder, and Ariandel is just a hollow with some reasoning and masochistic tendencies.
      Very weird.

    • @itsl3489

      Oh. I killed Yuria, after the usurpation ending but before the dlc, and still got that unique dialogue.

    ~I'm guessing Two Things, I feel the Final DLC, might tie in with this One seeing as we met the Eldest Sister of the Sable Church Founders, I assume we'll meet Lillian the Youngest in the Next DLC. (Similar to Nashandra and her Sisters in DS 2, Minus Karla for some reason).
    ~If Uncle Gael is looking for the Dark Soul of Man itself, and we had that Odd Statue at the End, I'm calling it. The Final DLC will either be in Londor or -perhaps it shall be a second Painted World if Miyazaki wants to do Painted Inception...-
    ~Maybe that Statute with the Lower Snake Body, is either a Reincarnation of Kaathe or if going the Extra Mile, The Furutive Pygmy, the Lord who created Humanity. Honestly that would be the perfect Way to end the Series, if we're still ignoring The Bearer of the Curse or Aldia from Dark Souls 2.
    *~Ariandel really was a Great DLC, when it came to Lore and Story, but I feel unless the Other DLC answers it, we might have Unanswered Questions for the Overall Lore of Dark Souls 3, such as Who were the Angels, who'm which Gertrude Met, What is the Deep that Aldrich foresaw, What is the Profaned Flame, if it isn't another Chaos Flame, Is the Untended Graves in the Future or The Past, and what the Hell are Pilgrim Butterflies?*
    *Great Vid Vaati, Keep up the Good Work, also don't feel Bad,Ariandel wasn't Father Lloyd XD*

      Trevor Williams Or may Miyazaki releases a DLC that raises more questions and answers none. Then proceeds to ride into the sunset on a horse, raising even more questions...

      Trevor Williams the pilgrim butterflies are the pilgrims of Londor the deep is most likely to be the abyss and the profaned flame is the chaos flame

      You kind of just disregarded everything from Dark Souls 1 and 2 to make your assumptions seem feasible.

      John Smith I didn't disregard ds2 I mentioned that only one of the 3 dlc was long and towards ds1 Forgot about it because it wasn't brought up

      When lorediving, i read on reddit this theory. It stated that the Deep may be some form of the soul of Death, just like the Abyss is some form of the soul of Dark and the Chaos is some form of the soul of Life.

    You make my favorite lore videos. Not only do you do your research, but you don't take any theories too far and always leave your thoughts open to criticism. Your voice is also perfect for calm, informative narration. Amazing!

    Awesome video once again. I've finished the DLC yesterday so this video reveals a lot of stuff I coudlnt understand but hey, that's why I watch your videos in the first place. They are so rich in content that one can always miss while playing.

    Vaati, I thought I would tell you this since it wasnt in the video and I wasnt sure if you knew, but if you've become the lord of hollows, there is different dialogue. :) I'll leave the rest to you.

      @ajwarne5668 Před 7 lety +47

      be sure to not complete the game on that profile too, Yuria has different dialogue for when you've killed Elfriede and Vilhelm.

    • @BackwardsPancake
      @BackwardsPancake Před 7 lety +2

      Yeah, Vilhelm and Friede will both refer to you as the lord of hollows in their dialogue, but there aren't any big plot reveals based on it as far as I could tell. (Just having Yuria show up in your game is sufficient to trigger this I think, I hadn't married Anri, and still got it)
      And afterwards, Yuria has a few lines if you talk to her with Friede's soul in your inventory. Didn't seem to be anything significant there either.

    • @SanatoZen
      @SanatoZen Před 7 lety +4

      Indeed, Vilheim adressed me as Lord of Hollow, which he didn't with my other character. It was interesting. Unfortunately, I killed Yuria in this playthrough (after killing Soul of Cinder). So that's annoying

    • @mira12825
      @mira12825 Před 7 lety +31

      Yuria recognizes the scent of friede on us if we talk to her before completing the DLC and, if we talk to Yuria with Friede's soul in our possession she rocognizes it as her sister's soul and tells us to use it as the lord of londor.
