Fun fact: this was filmed in Montréal Canada and all vehicles are actually real. They were mostly made by a team called “intrigue fx”. Which is still open to this day.

After you watch the sequels you feel bad for 14K because he was a pretty honorable guy.
The thing that bothers me is the continuity. In order of events, the movies are 2, 3, then 1 (this movie) and at the end of 3, 14k wins his 5th race, thus winning his freedom. My guess is that the writers didn't think that far ahead at the time this movie was made.

I love that Carson and Riggins, the literal nobodies, drivers that never said anything, shot anyone, or played dirty, made it so far in the race.
As they were never credited in the movie, I like to think someone in the production team just found their pics under some photobooth
Actually there is a deleted scene of all the drivers racing it’s right after grim gets killed but Carson has a gun facing backwards on his trunk and he was using that to shoot at Jensen. You can check it out.

yes. althrought i love dreadnought itself, i was cheering too. seriously, it was just unfair against less armored (with weaker plating) and weaponized cars. it wasnt actually blood sport, but just mere slaughter. i know they were prisoners, but still. i cant describe it, i was just like that joe and "frank" managed to avenge fallen ones. i feel most sorry for asian girl. not because of more protecting womans or something, but her death was actually longest and most painfull. grenade blow up car ? insta death (probably). blow up by tank turret ? literally insta death.

Good movie? Not a particularly good story, pretty generic with no real characters. Everyone was very generic. Setup for the Death Race? Kinda retarded. On the one hand you want characters to be favorites (like Frankenstein), on the other, in universe all the racers die every tournament except apparently all of them. Everyone was introduced as if they had all raced before, but then all but 4 of them die before warden bitch starts cheating and bending the rules. So either they didn't really race each other or nobody really died previously.
Overall I give it a 6/10 It has pretty good action, but that's pretty much all it has. The characters are skin deep. Warden bitch is a bitch because she's a bitch. I watched this movie a couple of times as a teenager and remember the motivations of literally 3 people. Statham's character wanted to leave. Bitch wanted ratings by repeatedly and obviously murdering the public's favorite driver (literally retarded) and machine gun joe wanted to kill frankenstein. I remember literally nobody else.

I watched this movie when I was flying back from a semester abroad in S. Korea. My uncle picked me up at the airport, and I slept on his couch for the evening. No joke, I had a dream that a large machine gun was pointed at me, and I physically leaped off the couch onto the floor. Wild, I'll always remember this movie because of that.
