We have 3 of these iPads for our family members czcams.com/users/postUgkxUGaHtKW8MwCql2fPyIm9-ftTqSMzKFFA . Great apple product and provides the necessary performance needed for a basic tablet. No one in our family requires an iPad Pro, so this iPad fits our needs well. I’ve never had complaints on my Apple purchases and this iPad follows suit. Def worth the money.
I have to say the evolution in this channel's content quality is phenomenal. Not that it wasn't great a few years ago but I'm blown away right now by how good it is. Awesome work all!
Also, stoked about the new Ipad. Mine get's here tomorrow!
The M1 chip is definitely going to be game changing! Idk if editing on a touch screen is actually going to be faster, it I’d definitely love to see a version of Final Cut for ipad to play around with it
They should allow a typical interface for an ipad
Suprise 🙃 Welcome FCP for İpad
The brotherly bond on this channel is unique and I’m really digging it!
I was literally putting my fingers to the virtual keys about to say “this will open up the creation of a final cut app” right when you said it. I’ll upgrade from my old iPad air if I can access fxp on an iPad.
I’ve tried using LumaFusion for editing before but I just can’t seem to figure out how to edit colors and tones very well. Would love to see a video from you guys going over that!
iPad and Lightroom is my go to for photography editing. Love using the pencil and feel the work flow is great for me.
Obviously some people will always prefer an actual desk top or laptop but it's great that there are now options!
Still prefer MacOs for photo editing because of the lack of real multitasking
Came to see a comprehensive, serious analysis of the pros and cons. Leaving having seen none of that.
Hey Matti, I loved the vid - I’ve been using only an iPad for everything (including video editing) for more than 2 years. It’s really awesome!
I'm torn between buying a 9th gen iPad and investing in a laptop around Christmas, or splurging on the iPad pro. What do you think I should do?
@@Agirlnamedshape I just purchased my iPad Pro for photo editing as my main device and its awesome!
I exclusively edit my videos (4k) on lumafusion on my 2017 iPad Pro and there’s never an issue.. Btw, Lumafusion has a Final Cut export feature so your whole “rough cut on the ipad finish in FCP” workflow would work well.
iPad is good for a video editing, all my videos on CZcams are edited on an iPad, that's a powerful device. I did even masking and many crazy transitions.
Yea it’s getting real wild!
What editor do you use?
@@Muhluri luma fusion
I’ve been using the 2018 iPad Pro for editing already. Can’t imagine how nice this would be.
I cannot wait to see you guys put LumaFusion through its paces on this iPad! 😍😍👌🏼
It’s because recent iOS/iPadOS was made with H.265 in mind. Lumafusion has played difficult video files for a while.
I have been looking at this for awhile - Lightroom on previous Ipad Pros is really nice (and fast) but still have one big issue - the size of the screen. If they made a big external touch screen monitor for daily editing it would be truly amazing. Obviously, having full featured photo editing (a fully functional Photoshop with touch please!) and video editing program would really help. I think a lot of users that use Premiere / Final Cut / Resolve will resist an Ipad Pro if they have to use something else. Who knows, but I think the jury is out.
Gotta admit I am tempted to leave the safety of my desktop PC / Surface Pro is tempting, especially given the performance. Also, especially for video, do I really need a full professional editor? I use lots of stuff in Photoshop including many plugins. It would be tough to leave that behind and have to learn something else. Finally, this feels expensive. I remember that I was always frustrated by the cost of Mac Book Pro's (now frustrated by the cost of Surface Pro's) and you would think this would cost less, but it really doesn't. I am less frustrated now, because I just see it as the price to play...
Whole vlog on the iPad! would love to see how FCP / Premiere work on it too
Any idea on when or if final cut of the full version of premiere will be available on the new iPad? I love LumaFusion but it has its limitations when it comes to Important things like speed ramping, editing 360 media, color grading and the ability to lock on and track subjects..
Is color grading not good for a basic CZcams series with LumaFusion?
Just so you know, you’re already able to export luma fusion projects to finish in final cut :)
Ok so how do you get from your camera's SD cards to the external drive so the external drive can be connected to the Ipad?
Hey matt, edit a whole 4k vlog and show the workflow 🙌
Would love to see that
Would love to see a future video of the M1 iPad Pro about editing 4K videos on it.
You should know that when you drag a clip in the timeline in Lumafusion the software automatically transcode it in a lower resolution to have a fluider experience... That's why even r5 footage is so smooth. A better way to see how capable is this machine is to click on the clip in preview and instead of dragging it down to the timeline just play it in preview. I always edit 4k footage that way on Lumafusion and DJI footages make time to load and isn't as smooth as once in the timeline.
Not to mention that’s just playback with absolutely no color grade or edits lol
and also the iPad Pro is new and still lot's of memory space, this is why there's no jittering at all, let's see if they will make a video next time when the iPad is already full, and if it is still fast :)
@@aranasfilm would you pick the 256 or 512 in that case?
@@ajproart2 the 1TB so you actually have 16gb of RAM
@@Jabromosdef I was going to but I ended up getting the 512GB instead with cellular since it has GPS in case I take it in long trips & I’m pretty good keeping in order all my project files (cloud & external HDDs) & mostly because I saw this videos where they stated the apps won’t take a significant advantage over the 16GB since they are optimized for 8GB.
Right now I’ve done some video & photo editing without missing the extra RAM.
Thanks for the advice though 👍
Wondering if the sidecar performance is better. I’d love to use that screen as a second monitor for video editing
Matti, I have a question about memory card reader with the iPad. Have you tried the Sony CFxpress A card reader on the iPad? How do you rate the performance?
I'm fascinated by the potential of using this new iPad as a documentary field computer for dumping cards, backing up drives, and editing dailies and social sizzle reels. Could you guys show how well it handles those kinds of lengthier processes like dumping, backing up, and reviewing dailies as part of your field test?
THIS COLOR GRADING MAKE YOU LOOK LIKE YOURE ABOUT TO POP OUT OF THE SCREEN. For some reason reminds me of the Looney Toons
This Ipad is good for content creators I thought. Love the center stage technology, it makes another simple selfie video into a new level
Thanks for answering the only question I had regarding this iteration of the iPad Pro’s capability.
Do you think final cut and Logic Pro should be available like yesterday? Pro apps were promised long ago . What’s up Apple? 👽
I love the fact that he used the R5’s footage as a way to test editing capability 😂
I love the brotherly bond on this channel!
I LOVE editing photos on the iPad Pro and Lightroom CC. My workflow has completely flipped: I import photos in Lightroom CC on the iPad, pick, edit and export most of them directly from the iPad. For those few shots that require Photoshop or other tools, I use Adobe cloud to sync, so the images are instantly available on the Mac. Such a dream workflow. It has significantly increased the number of photos I take, and allow me to be done editing the images within hours of shooting them. Love it.
With continuity you'll be able to drag the files directly from the iPad over to the laptop. It won't even need the cloud.
I've been waiting for something small and light for off-loading video while traveling yet powerful enough for timeline assembly and basic cuts editing that also has a full days worth of battery life from a single charge. If you do not need workstation class processing power in a laptop, this is it. Being able to remote into my work PC at 5G is another nice touch.
I would love it if Final Cut Pro was on the IPAD.
Since lumafusion compatible with fcp no need it for ipad.
Hiii I hope someone responds to this question 🙏🏼 When I import videos from my Canon m50 to my iPhone or iPad to edit, doesn’t it change the quality? I feel like it gets super blurry
I've really grown to love the brother dynamic of the channel🖤
Yeah... now I want one too, and I need to explain my kids that it’s for me not for them 🤣
Want! Those colours looked amazing!
It’s unreal!
@@mattih looking forward to that lumafusion video. Try out the app Mojo for mobile motion graphics
🙏 Purchased it, so its better than Premiere Rush (definitelly) and even Videoleap
hey Matti can you actually use an external hard drive with it? I have the iPad pro but from 2 generations ago I think and it just copy's the footage from the external hard drive to the iPad storage which defeats the purpose of having an ext hard drive
Pete and Matti dropped the video at the same time and I stopped studying 😂
Can't function anymore this is indeeind blowing
The moment you replace your 5000 dollar pc for a 1000 dollar tablet just to be able to smoothly edit the footage of your 5000 dollar Camera 😂😂😂
First of all, this tablet is over $2000 and secondly while it may playback the video (something I am still questioning, they said it was R5 footage, no one said it was 8k could have been 1080 footage) the touch interface is NOT designed for editing or pretty much any serious work. I spent 2500 for ipad, $3500 for macbook pro and $1500 on iphone in November when i came back to Canada, by January I had sold them all off because apple has gone down hill SO MUCH. I feel this video is a great sponsored commercial. Sorry Matti maybe i am wrong, but I will bet you a tesla I am not.
@@jamesl.223 Y r u so angry,Plus ipad pro is 1000dollars
the cheapest ipad pro is $799 and it is still insane

@@jamesl.223 really disagree. Been doing all my editing work for around 3 years no exclusive on an iPad Pro and i think ts exactly the other way around. Using the interface is so much faster as its not only more intuitive, its also much faster and direct. Not to say that this thing is ultra mobile and has more power than a desktop pc especially for certain kinds of tasks. And i am cruelly talking about the now 3 or more years old iPad Pro. The new one is already on another level
Great optimisation and hardware is the key to overall performance of iPad.
Matti I wanted to say that you can export a luma fusion to XML so you can do the cuts on the iPad then do the titles into Final Cut Pro
Everyone's gangsta until the tennis ball hit the iPad Pro
A whole vlog on LumaFusion?? Yessir 🏆🏆🏆🏆
Since last year all my videos were on lumafusion.
Same, but for film I’m im using both iPhone xr and osmo pocket. Do you think LumaFusion can handle the footage of a canon EOS rp? 🤔🤔 btw my iPad is a pro from 2018.
Does it get hot when you use it heavily?
My 2018 one gets hot in like half an hour when I use lumafusion. And the screen dims to around 65% brightness, that's why I care about this so much...
But can you edit off the hard drive on Luma fusion now ?
Matti: My mind is blown!
Matti's shirt: "C'est normal" (french for: this is normal)
If your main intent is video editing, does the expensive 2TB version make sense? Or is that overkill with external drive support?
And on the other end is 8gb of RAM enough as a 4k editor?
would you still need a computer to get all the photos and video onto a portable hd to plugin to the ipad?
Great video!
I’m thinking about purchasing an M1 iPad Pro for when I start traveling again with my Fuji cameras. Quick question for you. With iOS 15 were you able to do a speed test (download time) of downloading (for example) a 32 gig UHS-II SD card with a UHS-II card reader to the M1 iPad Pro?
and backing up the same full 32 gig card data to Samsung T5?
That was my workflow when I traveling to Cuba and Guatemala with the previous model iPad Pro.
Keeping it simple, sleek. Returning back to United States with all data on the iPad, the Samsung T5, and 8 SanDisk Ext Pro memory cards.
I’m trying to ascertain if there is a software bottleneck or hardware bottleneck with the new in one iPad.
If it’s not much faster I mayyyyy. just stick with what I have for another year.
Thanks in advance
iPad Pro is great, and keeps getting better and better each iteration. However, one thing that I'm still waiting for is the ability to edit from within an external drive (eg. External SSD's). As it stands now, you can only edit on the base iPad storage that is allotted for your specific model. It's a minor thing if it's small projects, but when you're getting into bigger projects with more footage eating up more and more space, you're gonna run out of local storage really fast (depending on how much memory you get for iPad). Editing on fcpX for iPad from an external drives, that would be the dream.
Editing directly from an external drive is possible with LumaFusion now
@@k1drift829 really? im gonna buy ipad pro soon

My mind’s blown!🤯 I do all my CZcams editing with LumaFusion on my iPad Pro 2017. Can’t wait to get me the m1 iPad! 😃
The upcoming lunafusion will be the fcpx you want! Editing directly from external disk, stabilization, audio eq and plug-ins, multicamera, easy in key framing, real time scopes, hdr editing, etc...a dream come true!
I think the 1000nit (1600 peak) is only when viewing HDR content, but still... It looks insane. If they bring some full fat apps I use in my workflow (e.g. Ableton) and improved file management it would be PERFECT for me.
Lumafusion is awesome for editing. That's all I use and it edits 4K smoothly on older iPad Pros too. Can't wait to see what you think of editing on it.
Hello, am very new to the mac world. I do video editing, graphic designing and streaming. You think this particular iPad pro m1 will fulfill my work with ease? It would be a great advantage if I film my videos in 4K.
@@AGSA5 Absolutely - no problem! That's all I use and love the portability. I can edit anywhere.
I have what I think is an important question/detail in order to fully aces the implications of what you’re describing here: Is the featured iPad Pro fitted with the maximum 500 GB storage capacity (of the basic spec models) and therefore 8 GB RAM,or the top model with 1TB and 16 GB RAM?
Thank you!
I need to know this too, Matti can you please answer?
Me too please!
Love the center stage thing. Also how quick it plays back the Canon footage :D DREAM!
but is the panel 10 bit? for proper hdr workflow
what is the difference from 6k pro display xdr?
Totally sick! I’d like to see how it would handle an entire 4K workflow though. Usually things start slowing down towards the end of those edits
I’ve been editing all my photos and video on an iPad Pro for the past few years... then I got a canon R5 and the video was challenging so maybe it’s time to upgrade to this
Hello. I am very new. I do video editing, graphic designing and streaming. You think this particular iPad pro m1 will fulfill my requests by making my work easier? Should I get a MacBook air instead of iPad? It would be a great advantage if I do video editing in 4k. I need help with suggestions.
@@AGSA5 so there are limitations of an iPad for editing but I edit everything in Luma Fusion and for what I need it’s perfect and really intuitive (and I came from editing in premiere).
For graphic design you might have to find something else to use if you use Adobe creative suite as the Adobe products really suck on the iPad outside of lightroom.
For streaming it depends on what you’re streaming but don’t forget you’d need to factor a hub/dock into the cost as the iPad doesn’t have many connections. I’d personally go for a M1 Mac mini over the laptop if you don’t need the portability and already have a screen/keyboard/mouse/tablet
@@GarethDix don't they have some kind of an adapter for the socket? Tbh, I don't even know if the streaming gonna work on these devices since I am purchasing a video capture card. I barely use Adobe creative suite. I think I better check the Luna fusion out first since I am not knowledgeable enough. I may consider use a software that I am familiar with. And the sad thing is , the iPad pro and the MacBook air have similar price range..lol I think I may go for MacBook air instead.
Editing is great on ipad but file transfers and management are still a nightmare for me. It's so buggy working with the files app to import files from external drives/cards into the iPad or towards cloud services.
So do you have reliable connection methods for one usb c connector? Moved from apple to pc a few years back as Mac ground to a halt and could get much higher spec reliable pc running windows with usb A and sd card slots. Have one usb c ssd drive and 30 odd drives with usb A connectors, not going to be replacing that lot but how to plug in sd card and drive to one usb c slot to an iPad?
It´s pretty crazy that apple fit an m1 chip, 5g and 2 tb of storage in such a small size
“We need to challenge ourselves”. Meaning, Teppo, your going to challenge yourself to edit using luma fusion. 😂😂
Do you happen to try it on dual monitors? Previous versions only mirror what is on the iPad screen. I’m desperately waiting for them to allow connection of multiple monitors.
Hello, and a big thumbs up for this very informative video ! I would like to take this opportunity to ask you a question : in your opinion, is it possible to transfer Canon C-Log3 files from a Canon EOS R6 body to a latest generation iPad Pro 12.9 (M1) via a USB-C cable ? 7:40 Because the iPad is half a product. Those "expensive computers" are expensive because they come with all the bells and whistles.
When you've paid for your Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard and then spec your IPad out beyond the meager specs Apple offers at baseline, the price tag quickly becomes upwards of 2k, and those "expensive computers" end up costing less and providing more.
I was thinking about just getting the 2020 pro version instead, because even if I could afford it, I heard that most apps on Apple only need like 5gb of ram to operate. And there's still no full fledged apps like lightroom/photoshop and final cut pro. So I might just get the lower end.
only if you dont need to change screen or keyboard
The Key is to take the advantages of the iPad. If you buy the keyboard, it becomes thicker, heavier, more expensive and less powerful than a MacBook Air. You should buy the iPad exclusively without the keyboard, only with the pen (but i barely use it, so I could live without it). I that case the iPad has some advantages against the MBA. And putting it in a ZuguCase makes it very strong and comfortable.
How is it with importing photos and clips.doesn’t it lose any quality, especially when u wanna export it? When I used to import them into my Lightroom on my iPad Pro and the export it, the quality was worse then exporting it on my Mac
Thank you
It's very exciting to think about using this instead of a laptop. For newspaper work I used my new iPad Air (4th Gen) for editing photos and it's great to just take that instead of a laptop. My concern is getting photos (Lightroom on iPad, Lightroom Classic on PC) back into my primary catalog (nearing 1,000,000 photos). I don't have a good solution right now for syncing back to the other machine so in essence they are completely separate.

Matti: can you now edit videos on the iPad Pro?
Everyone who has been using LumaFusion for years: what do you mean NOW?
Watching this on my new pro that arrived today. Luma fusion is awesome, after having used Sony Vegas for so long I wanted a way of edited gaming footage away from the desk! This thing is awesome!
This made me as excited as you both got! I’m convinced I’m ditching the MacBook Pro as my primary device!!
Dang don’t go telling everyone the secret! Lol, I’ve been editing in Lumafusion for a while now on the last gen iPad Pro and even on that one it crushed my R6 H.265 files (it processed the graded footage in real-time with no issues.) I was blown away! The only problem I have with Lumafusion is the lack of key frame easing... if they would add that one feature I might almost edit 100% on the iPad.
Hey, you guys are really nailing the reviews with enthusiasm, entertainment, and solid useful data. I say this because I just saw another Peter McKinnon video (of the iPad M1) where he phoned it in … AGAIN … a minimal effort that left me wondering why he is coasting so much lately. You guys, in comparison, have loads of personality and act like you REALLY care about your product. Keep up the great work.
I would have been curious to see if the previous model (before the M1 chip) would have ran the same video clips.
The M1 iPad Pro is a BEAST!!! The viewing experience is just superb. Love it.
The M1 Card is incredible. Definitely a game charger. But i'm not sure if i could switch away from a mouse just yet. It is temping to imagine editing in a hammock though.
You can also use a mouse 🖱 with it
I really just wish that Apple will make the IpadOS ecosystem more like the Mac one. If we can get a mac's ability to multitask (quickly switch between multiple windows and Mac version of apps) then it might be so much better than an actual mac
Then most(apple fans)people would buy the iPad pro instead of macbook.
@@naseeb46 why?
Ipad OS removes the ability to customise your OS that you have with Mac OS. I absolutely love iPads but I feel that Ipad OS, in its present form, is not that well adapted to pro work. If they slightly changed it then it could be a perfectly Allright work machine
