I can see it being used as a "1st draft" kind of thing. Since you can seamlessly bring it into Final Cut Pro it would make sense that you could do some of the final touches (like color grading) there. I can see this being useful in getting the construct of an edit down (especially while traveling) and then cleaning it up later. Really cool though!!

I’ve been WAITING for a solid iPad Video Editing tool for forever! I haven’t used Lightroom on my MacBook in over a year, this is all I needed to get a super streamlined workflow!
If they add in LUT’s, I’m sold
I really hope they let the iPad and Mac work together in the future. I want to use the MacBook as the main editor but still use the iPad in tandem to do all of this cool new stuff.
I was interested until I found out you can't edit from an external drive. I plug my 4TB drive into my iPad and Resolve sees it and I can edit straight from that. Makes hopping from the iPad to the MacBook Pro a lot easier as well. I like apples take on the IU, but that's a deal breaker for me 🤷🏻♂
Hopefully they add external drives, and being able to go back and forth from Desktop to iPad as many times as we feel necessary. Waiting for these features to give Apple my $50, I simply can’t fit my videos on my iPad without external storage.
This is why I haven't decided upon if I want to get ipad air or pro for this.
It would be nice if you could plug your iPad into your mac via usbc, and use the drawing feature in FCP on the iPad in tandem with FCP on the mac, so you can utilize the processing power in the mac and the iPad as an additional tool for the FCP workflow.

I just got it but i cant for the life of me figure out how to upload my stuff to it. Not letting me from sd cards or external drive. How are we supposed to get clips on it?
No ‘editing from external HD’ support. You have to get your photos into Files or Photos app and then you import from there.
Would love to hear your thoughts/perspective on using this to edit and vertical video for reels, shorts, etc. would this be a good tool for that? I feel like I have yet to find a way of editing vertical video that feels “right”
I use Adobe, but a subscription model is something FCP did not miss

For the color, do you think think doing an edit in FCP for iPad then exporting in prores and moving into Davinci on iPad for color would be a temporary solution for people?
Was curious to hear you thoughts on not being able to edit off an ssd as well. But that also could be not understanding fully on the people they are targeting for the user friendly app.

🤔. It would be great if all of your third party plug-ins would appear on the final cut iPad, such as pixel film studio, FX factory and motion VFX. But I am confident that eventually it will Mirror itself on all platforms. This would be so sweet.

As a person who uses the m1 ipad pro everyday and running a Final Cut trial, lemme tell ya; as amazingly reliable as the iPad is, the touch screen cannot come near a full working desktop editing machine or macbook pro for a serious video editing experience. This guy in this video has a keyboard on his and he ain’t doin nothin but playing around yellin WEEEEEEeeee lookit-me 1 finger-slidin, and checkout my sponsor! 10:25 this is mindblowing - so i'm basically using the masking and drawing tool for these cool effects for some sceenes on my ipad (finally have a use for this haha) and then airdrop them to the macbook xD

I love the IPad interface and using Lumafusion currently. I need something better on masking and grading if i am going to shift. Unfortunately this is not it. 😢

Live draw but on the trackpad for the mac version would be dope. I don’t see why apple couldn’t do it using the trackpad and not have to transfer clips from the iPad since you can save signatures for documents already.

I’m doing very simple editing with iMovie on my old mac pro (2015 mammoth) and pretty happy with it =) but always want something nicer! I’m sorry, 300$ is an unreasonable investment for a hobby to me, so I never had to buy any video editing software (please, don’t slap me in the face with the subscription math - I know, but psychologically it’s easier). I have a few questions: 1. Is there a way to cut the video AND the audio in 1 click (I couldn’t find that in iMovie)? 2. What video/audio formats are supported by the final cut (iMovie doesn’t support mkv or some similar format, that I have to get the kdenlive which doesn’t have voiceover in mac OS 😅)? 3. The final cut UI looks very similar to iMovie. How comfortable would it be in. your opinion to use if you have used only this simple tool? PS. Got myself a gift as iPad Pro for the last XMass, that’s why I’m curious. Thank you in advance if you would find a few moments to answer my questions!
Your the only one i heard say its better lol i agree too. I dont like to edit on a laptop id rather edit on iPad since its lighter and more compact when im on the go. I use the 24” Mac to do other things the ipad can’t do……YET.

Have a 2020 iPad Pro and been waiting on this! But of course it doesn’t run on mine. Shades of the Storyboard feature. Definitely not buying an iPad for it. Permanent LumaFusion/ DaVinci user now!

If I can’t use an external drive like Resolve, I don’t think it is worth it unless you want to spend more money on storage. All that I need for this to be a win is external drive capability.

Game changer
I've been posting around with some other channels and I'm super on the fence between the NEW 15'' MacBook Air..... or a 12.9'' iPad pro... both are essentially same price with adding the iPad keyboard and Pencil. I don't think I would need 100% the keyboard right away.. Mainly want to replace my 7 year old PC to edit Raw photos and video from my Canon R5c. I don't do any huge paid gigs, just family photos, travel photos and video and some small paid gigs here and there.
I like the iPad for how much more immersive it is compared to a laptop and it's a bit smaller so it's more portable. What are your thoughts.

So the mac FCPro you pay a yearly license? But that's not transferable to an IPad too with the same account? And Vice versa? If so then your buying two licenses 1, for the mac and 1, for the ipad? That's expensive...or can you use the ipad software on the macbook as well as the ipad?

As a wildlife videographer who was very interested in getting a 2TB storage capacity iPad with Final Cut movie making capabilities, I can affirm that the lack of video stabilization capacity on the iPad version of Final Cut Pro is a complete deal breaker. Indeed, I suspect others will also find this inability to stabilize videos on the iPad Final Cut Pro program to be unacceptable as well.

Hi Matti! As a person who's starting to edit simple videos and can ONLY use iOs/iPadOs devices which program would you choose between Lumafusion and Final Cut? Why would I want to pay a monthly fee when I can just buy Lumafusion and that's it?

Great app but if you don't have enough storage on iPad, it is hard. Tried to plug my ssd but it does copy all files on the iPad instead of using them straight from the ssd. Did I miss something about import settings ? Thanks
No, is how is works. You can’t edit directly from an SSD

I am not sure how you can make 2 hr movies on iPad. Some of my FCP projects on Mac are massive. How can this support the space? I would imagine it would have to pull the video files down from the cloud to render on the device locally?
I don’t know what type of people buying and using ipad! The iphone can do everything the ipad do and on the promax versions, the display is large enough to watch and edit content.

$20 one time for Lumafusion and you can use external drives, doesn't need an M1 chip for super smooth editing. Davinci is way more pro. Lastly there's Capcut that has a bunch of AI editing integrated that FCP is missing. Meh, they've got work to do just to compete.

I am done with Apple and FCPX. By releasing an update (not a new version) that breaks plugins without having the courtesy for plugins developers and respect for users to give us a heads on to be able to address those issues and help users avoid problems they demonstrate that they don’t care.
After over a decade supporting Apple and FCPX, hoping that they would continue to develop FCPX as an alternative to Avid, Premier, and Resolve, it’s clear that it’s no longer the right product for my needs nor is the direction Apple is taking FCPX. So, so long Apple.
Nah, I probably would if I had an iPad Pro, but my MacBook Pro does the job just fine and I don’t see any huge benefits to using this.
Now Logic Pro on the iPad does look interesting. Still not getting and iPad Pro just to use it. Especially with the lack of plugins and hardware support.

@@mattih For sure a lot of people will adopt it. There are already plenty of people editing on the iPad with LumaFusion and Premiere Rush for example. I can totally see why that is more convenient for some.

DaVinci resolve! Your can edit your projects from an external ssd. Easy to switch between MacBook and Ipad. Just plug in and edit. Audio keyframing in fcp on Ipad is horrible. I have to use the range tool. Sucks. And DaVinci for Ipad can render out videos with individual audio tracks. Motion graphics of course is just fun in fcp. Regards
