One thing I've noticed - youtubers tend to put out short videos 10-20 mins long, usually no more than 30, but for us listening while we hobby we want something longer. The less I have to look up and fiddle with finding a new video the better. So, I think there might be an algorithmic use for longer videos like this. They're more helpful, too. A lot of why I hadn't gotten into Silver Bayonet was in addition to the hesitation before investing in a new game I also don't play historicals and have no idea about Napoleonics. After watching this video, I feel comfortable with the entire thing from modelling and painting to rules and whatever. This was great thank you.
That’s really useful feedback bud, much appreciated, and though these longer form videos are a bit of effort to edit, it’s so much fun to make.
Glad your enjoying the content, thanks again
Peachy
@@PeachyTips dunno if this also helps, but i tend to watch longer videos like yours, and juggz and the like, in parts over a few days. maybe other people do that too. i hope that doesn't mess up your viewing metrics somehow 😅
@@handlechar568honestly I’m not fussed if it did, as I imagine most folks including myself do that….sod the metrics 😂
agreed ..
If im sitting to Hobby , make , paint , kit bash then I need hour longs at least.
If im sitting to listen over lunch or whilst sorting paperwork then shorter is always better

I know you’ve mentioned on the podcast about not being sure about posting some things because of views, etc. Please post whatever it is you want to post. One of the best reasons for doing these videos is getting great info like this in the comments 🫶
Thanks you so much for taking the time and passing on these useful gems of knowledge
Peachy 😍🍑😍
The Spanish faction is in dire need of our Sharpe equivalent: We had a traditional TV series about a band of rogues surviving under french occupation called Curro Jimenez. Bad guys, horseback riding in the mountains and blunderbusses.
😮 HOLY MOLY!!! That sounds ace! Time to research these guys then
@@PeachyTips omg, a crossover between Curro Jimenez and Chris Peach it's something I did not see coming!!
Thanks so much for the spotlight on such a great game (and for featuring my Russians). Aaron and I have really enjoyed the few games we played.
😍 DARCY!!!! thank you for sharing your pics too, really need to play this, Warcry and many more games with you too.
If Joan of arc can put on armour and become a saint, I’m sure some napoleonic French woman can put on a hat and wear fancy trousers. Love the idea of the dishonoured noble leading
I also like the idea that any civilian who's shown aptitude for dealing with the supernatural might get pulled into the unit, regardless of race or sex... if a gal has staked a vampire, then she has had more success than basically everybody, congratulations, we're teaching you to shoot and you better get out there for queen and country.
I don't know if it's mentioned in the video but if you're interested in a very real woman who fought and led troops in the Napoleonic Wars you need look no further than Agustina of Aragon. During the Siege of Zaragoza she was bringing supplies to a Spanish artillery battery which was routed by French infantry, but instead of running away she rushed in and fired a cannon off, shredding several of the enemy. This action inspired the men to return to their posts and drive off the French assault. She later went on to become a low level leader among the guerrillas and, at least according to legend, became the only female officer to serve under Wellington during the Peninsula Campaign.
There were a lot women in the revolutionary armies. And l don't mean just camp help etc
I remember reading something about this.
I wonder if she was the inspiration for Sharpes Partizan wife Teresa 🤔
@@PeachyTipssutlers were a common sight in the armies of XVIIIth and XIXth century. Often following brothers, fathers , husbands or lovers in to the army . The late revolutionary/early napoleonic armies tried to limit their numbers till the battle of Austerlitz where two sutlers Helena Kurdwanów and Joanna Śubrowa were crucial in rallying the troops. Joana Żubr , joined her husband in the army distingished hereself in the 1807 and 1812 campaign for which she was decorated(Virtuti military the first woman to earn it) and achived the rank of 2ed lieutenant. And this three are just the ones (especialy in the Spanish war) who fought and achived military rank. There were a lot of women like this in the russian, french and spanish forces. Not so many in the english or prussian armies, but not that were non. Friederike Krüger was a famouse prussian "wild" corpral in the prussian army . The Austria army made up for it. And when l say that there were fewer women in some armies , l am talking about trooper. Both the Prussian and British army had a "few"[3-4k] women in their camps, who in the case of a camp attack fought. Forgering and getting in contact with locals or enemy? They fought. There is at least one example from 1808, that l know of, where a firefight between two sutler groups turned in to a small battle, when both armies decided to "save" their women from the enemy.
Absolutely bloody great to see you doing non-GW vids mate, they're getting too expensive for average earners so other avenues are being explored with gusto at the moment. There's so many good value makers out there that just don't get anywhere near enough coverage currently
I had been institutionalised for too long, it’s time to join in with the rest of the gaming community!
@@PeachyTips It's weird but all my friends who play computer strategy games (like Europa Universalis) were way more interested in this than anything GW. They're at least willing to give it a try.
@@terraneauxwell that’s very encouraging to hear ❤
Star Wars Legion has been my Warhammer getaway. You can build a pretty complete army with the core box and then a battleforce box. If you split the core with a friend the total cost of both is something like £150-180 which for example would get you if you went with the CIS/ Droids: x2 General Grievous (different poses), x3 units of Droidekas, x6 units of B1 Battle droids, x1 Magnaguard unit and an AAT tank. Which is over the 800 point army limit and that's before upgrading stuff.

I love the idea of doing a Silver Bayonet warband using Hornblower as inspiration. A captain, a few royal marines, some sailors. Could even get a nice MDF frigate with interior to recreate Draculas passage on the Demeter but this time he's wound up on a Royal Navy ship.
That’s a great idea! Got have Styles and Matthew’s in there too, and maybe Archie too…..before he dies 😢
@@PeachyTips Or after he dies! We love a friendly zombie
Hahaha!
Check out the ships from Firelock Games’ (excellent) Blood & Plunder game. I reckon they’d do a grand job for your (also excellent) Hornblower idea.
Hey Peachy you have really hit your stride now and the format is awesome. Just being your enthusiastic and informed self is coming over so well. All of Joseph’s games are awesome and there is one element that he always includes (thankfully) and that is solo play. It would be a massively interesting part 2 to this video to hear you talk about solo play, the available scenarios but mostly to hear you talk about your thoughts on the mechanics and ideas for scenario building. Keep on being you mate, we are lapping it up.
😍🙌😍 thanks bud! I certainly have plans to cover solo play, not sure yet if it will be in the form of the battle reports or just a fun talking head vid….or both.
But it’s on the cards
Peachy is now a chosen man 💯💯💯💯 the thumbnail alone is just 👍👍👍👍👍
Hahaha! Cheers, I hope Mrs Peach appreciates it lol
Would love for you to a horse painting guide after seeing your cavalry in this
Oooh that’s a great shout!
Big agree! Have a ton of 3rd party (before old world released GW lawyers who might be watching) brettonian knights on horse back of various sorts, that I haven't been able to to find an easy or good looking way to paint them.
The design of the Silver Bayonet rulebook looks really classy. I like the show and tell video format - very relaxed and interesting.
Thanks that’s very much appreciated! Though I never expected my midlander tones to be counted as relaxing hahaha.
I love that you go through all the different sections, the background, show off what you have, do a build tutorial, etc. It's great to have it all in one place and really inspires me to jump into the game
Cheers for this, always great to get feedback on what folks enjoy and get value out of.
Glad you like it, much love

Also love how you did that quick zombie kitbash. Buy the book and single Perry box, what an incredible entry point.
I thought it made sense to add in some way of making monsters with those remaining soldiers, that or warbands 2,3 & 4 😂
Thank you for making such brilliant content for us Peachy! I always loved seeing big napoleonic miniatures dioramas in museums as a kid! Silver Bayonet looks awesome!

I know these topics probably don't get the space marine bump, but i love your journey into alternative skirmish games.. These are my favorite options in the hobby right now
An undead Hakeswill for Silver Bayonet is beyond perfect
Well I have a figure from warlord…..so it’s on 👍
@@PeachyTips having read so many Sharpe books, Hakeswill being a monster that can keep coming back is thematically spot on..
Cornwell mentions in one of his intros to the Sharpe books, that there was a plan to finish the TV episode of Sharpe’s Enemy with a close up of Hakeswill’s grave & have his hand bursting out of the soil. They ditched the idea unfortunately 😢

Now I'm going to look into this one. Keep up the enthusiasm you have mate , it really is highly infectious .
Looking forward to the next one already.
Aww cheers Philip 🫶 just talking about things I’m passionate about, and it’s great fun too
I really like the Templars and Hospitallers they are soooo cool. I'd love to do a warband of that era.
Saying that the Hospitallers are still around today in one form or another.
This looks fun! As a dad who primarily war games at home with his wife and kids, Joseph McCullough has just found a beautiful design of rules. We play Frostgrave, Stargrave, Rangers of Shadowdeep already. We will definitely be adding this one to the mix. Its games like these that have inspired me to design my own rulesets!
He’s a very talented fella, and I love his approach to Wargaming. Also that’s a great selection of games you have
While I'm not a fan of Napoleonics, I definitely appreciate the video with someone passionate about his hobby. Cheers all
Thanks for commenting that, it’s awesome to know folks can enjoy the vids without being super invested in the actual content 😍😍😍
It will be my absolute pleasure to check out your JUGGZ! ;-)
I've been interested in Silver Bayonet for like a year now. I've just ordered the core book and carpathians book - that's how good your video is. Now to look for napoleonic miniatures!
Yaaay! Well I hope you can source some minis, there’s soooo many companies that make them, whether they be metal, resin or plastic. I do have a few websites of reputable companies in the description if that helps
Firestorm games sell silver bayonet figure sets, worth a look
I would love to do a Greek version of Silver Bayonet cause it combines the Napoleonic wars with the Ottoman occupation, in a region with so many interesting potential horrors. The cool thing is that it can be an interesting mix match. Like an orthodox priest, a Greek chieftain with traditional attire, a Greek of aristocratic lineage serving as officer in the Imperial Russian Army, an intellectual who studied in the universities of Europe coming face to face with the completely illogical realities of monster hunting, you can even have mix in other Balkan cultures or even rogue Ottoman Janissaries etc. There are so many interesting themes. From Byzantine vampires to Ancient Greek mythology monsters still existing in closed Mycenaean tombs
This is a great dive into that theatre of war, I might have to look more into this region too 🫶
@@PeachyTips There is so much flexibility with a scenario in this region. Because all the Great Powers at some point got involved. So you can use literally whatever characters you have. For example the Ionian Islands were changing hands all the time. Imagine that all the great archaeological excavations of the 19th and 20th century have not happen yet. So you can run wild with Ancient Greek connections and relics. You want Gothic horror? I will give you Gothic Horror, not just because the Balkans are so connected with vampires, but because you can draw a direct line to the original gothic horror writers like Percy and Marry Shelley and their friend Lord Byron who actually ended up in Greece initially as a tourist, but stayed as a revolutionary. What if he was hunting for something… beyond this world?
You also have the popular myth of the last Emperor Constantine IX, taken the last moment from the battlefield by an angel and turned to marble, with the promise to return, in a very Arthurian motif. What if our adventurers search for Constantine in order to bring him to life and kick the Ottomans out, like the legend said, but in the end encounter something more than they thought?
Peachy, as a wargamer who has little interest in Napoleonics, the other day I watched an entire documentary about the 95th rifles because of you! XD

I’ve really fallen in love with the game mechanics aswell such a top notch game
Fantastic stuff
I share your approch to games:
1. Oooh! This seems cool.
2. Read, read, read (and a bit of watch).
3. Paint, paint, paint (you're faster and better)
4. Now, does anybody else want to play?
5. No? Solo it is then!
Never change. It allows me to feel not alone in this cycle of madness.
Hahaha! That’s exactly my process…..YAAAAY! I’m not alone 🤣
21:10 The hospitaller knights were kicked from Malta by Napoleon, it's perfectly plausible some of them would have opinions about the man. (No relation toTemplars though) They are still recognized as a landless sovereign state. They accept new members with aristocratic lineage and medical training.
'The warband to be commanded by the newly gazetted...Major Wentworth, sir?"

@@torganyaaww thanks, and the scenario you just explained sounds epic!
Love your infectious enthusiasm as always, thanks for sharing my zombies/frenchies mr peach
Thank you for watching the ramblings of a mad man 😂😂😂
Great video. Minor point of order, the junior officer would not have got his armor from Waddesdon Manor unless he was a time traveller as it was built in the 1870s by the Rothschild family, who made at least part of their fortune buying up stocks that had crashed on the back of false news of the Allies defeat by Napoleon at Waterloo. I only know this as I grew up locally. Another 'fun fact', the locals dont pronounce the e in Waddesdon. Love the video, Silver Bayonet is a fantastic game and deserves the love.
I was hoping someone would comment this 🙌 I just picked it as it had such a fun name…..knowing it was the wrong period, your sir did not dissapoint and I salute you 🫡
Also thanks for watching too 😍😍😍
My niece got a job there last year, amazing experience for her first job.
@@mjaatpriory funnily enough when I first met my wife she was working there. It is an amazing property filled with incredible art. I hope she has a great time there.
Don't forget that Silver Bayonet has licensed models that are also amazing. Seeing sneak peeks of those models is what first piqued my interest in the game.
Napoleonic wars range from 1799-1815, with Napoleon crowning himself a counter Emperor on december 2 1804, the last H.R. Emperor Francis II of Habsburg-Lorraine abdicated on August 6 1806 in part due to the Battle of Austerlitz & subsequent Peace of Pressburg (december 1805). so there is a time window where your H.R.E. army still had full imperial funding & support & then the fall from grace revenge missions.
I think they’re going to add cavalry to Trench Crusade soon and I’d love to see a tutorial on how to paint horses.
You’re the second person in as many hours to ask that about horses…..I suspect I’ll be doing a vid on those soon then 😂😂😂
This video and your Frostgrave video are my two favorite videos you've made! I will definitely be picking up the rule books and a couple of sprues with my next paycheck. Keep up the great work!

I really like this format Peachy! Listening to you talk about all your models and seeing examples gave me so many ideas for my own little Silver Bayonet warband
That’s awesome! Glad that the video has inspired to get some creative juices flowing for your own warbands
Amazing stuff, Peachy!
Excited to watch Peach talk about this! I recently started a force to play Sludge. Silver Bayonet is an easy game to double up with but I haven’t looked too much into it yet. I’ve heard great things about it!
It would appear I’m just scratching the surface of amazing games, so lots more things to discuss down the line
A good reading to set the mood is the Hellboy comics!
That's great, I love Joseph's other games but I've been avoiding even looking closely at Silver Bayonet to avoid getting sucked into another one, so I didn't even realise about the horror elements! Sounds amazing! Really good tips about converting up the zombies from the Perry kits, that's a brilliant cost saving.
It’s a great game, and like all of joes other stuff it’s got a great following and community, sorry if I’ve opened a Pandora’s box for you now lol.
And making fun zombies out of spares is such good fun

I heard of this game a while back. Your mention on the podcast reminded me I should look into it. Looks cool even while I'm not a historical wargame player, or am I particularly interested in the time period, but adding the supernatural element makes it definitely more my cup of tea.
Really enjoyed this video Peachy. I will be looking at this system for sure.👍👍😉

I really like this format where there is a tutorial at a random point. They get me hyped. By the way, Sharpe fighting undead? Yes, please!

This is so amazing. Thank you!
so cool! If you're diving more into skirmish games you should look up Snarling Badger Games, its Tabletop Minions and Vince Venturellas game company. They did a Cold War Alien hunting skirmish, a Demon turf war, space station survival and their newest game is about being a necromancer bringing ruin to the land. Lots of kitbash and warband opportunities!
I was just about to suggest the same! I have a couple of their titles, and they also push solo play within their rules too if that’s your thing?
@@robrowell7866 yeah pretty much every release after Reign In Hell has solo play built in, Reign in Hell had an add on that put it into the game

Apologies for the late post and I'm not sure what all has been recommended but here it goes:
- Canada supplement for Silver Bayonet by Ash from Guerrilla Miniature Gaming.
- Everything from Snarling Badger Studios (Uncle Atom and Vincy V): Reign in Hell, Space Station Zero, Majestic 13, Tanks for the Apocalypse, Deth Wizards.
- One Page Rules; Warhammer but better and cheaper.
- Dead By Lead; great cowboy Western game.
- BLKOUT; near future tactical skirmish. Small, fast, and deadly.
- Flames of Orion; grimdark mech combat by Steve from Hive Scum podcast.
- Night Thirst - vampire horror skirmish game from Wittle Goblin.

Peachy I wish there were people like you in my area who I could game with. I think everybody's forgot that the games should be like getting to play a part in your favorite movie or story, making it full of character and fun most of all. Keep up the good work cheers
Its my most favourite way to play, oddly losing games or winning is irrelevant...its just the next chapter in the story for me. well if your ever up in Notts we should totally smash a game of Frostgrave/Silver Bayonet etc
Great video with some great miniatures in there, I loved the idea of this when it came out (having played Frostgrave a load), bought up loads of Perry miniatures that I’d l coveted for a while, built 2 warbands and creatures (did the same conversions with the zombies, except the foot thing which is a great tip) then the momentum fell off as no one around me wanted to play. I will paint them but, with limited time, games I do get to play take precedent.

Im looking forward to more content of Solo Wargaming and small format publishing games.
Hey Nik, though it was brief thanks for stopping to say hi, it did get a bit hectic around that stand at one point lol. And yeah Osprey are smashing it.
Always fun to see someone talking about something they enjoy. I know nothing about Napoleonic's. It is something I know a lot of people are in to but I would never know where to start of what models to get because there is just SO much stuff out there.
It is quite overwhelming that’s true, but honestly most folks just start with one nation or even one box of minis and slowly but surely things oddly fall into place.
Years ago myself and Duncan got mad into Napoleonics, we had seen films and tv shows like Sharpe, but our knowledge was super limited to red guys vs blue guys lol. With just one box and the excitement of re enacting episodes of Sharpe we just found out the info overtime.
And remember most ‘experts’ are just a handful of history/Osprey books ahead of you…..that is all
@@PeachyTips I appreciated the bit where you mentioned that you can separate April's of Perry Miniatures models. That definitely makes the game seem a lot more accessible.

When I was watching your Juggs, I instantly thought of an RPG campaign. I just ordered Silver Bayonet for the setting and will probably run a short of a few sessions in a basic roleplaying system (Over the Edge adaptation)
I made the core of my Silver Bayonet warbands from Wargames Atlantic Death Fields: Bulldogs, Les Grognards, and Renaissance Conquistadors...
For monsters I'm just picking from my Zombicide, Warhammer and Warmachine collections, but I did buy the Wargames Atlantic Harvesters, and Spiders.
Very cool. I enjoyed seeing this stuff a lot.
Aww thanks!!! Glad you enjoyed it 😍🍑😍
