Absolutely correct: back in the day, we were 'gamers'...which meant video games, board games, RPG games, TT wargames, etc., etc. All types were loved and appreciated for what they brought to the table. Some we liked more than others, but we appreciated (and played) them all.

    • @tabletopalchemy

Yep! I guess fracturing was inevitable along with growth, seems a natural human instinct to self-group as numbers get bigger. Take the bitter with the better, or something like that right? 🍻

I'm am and old 80's gamer, and I played EVERYTHING I could get my grubby paws on. Games were not just the mathematics, they were worlds of imagination (understanding the math did help however 😁)
A list of what I have played, just in RPG's would be....... extensive, let alone what I have run, played one off's in conventions etc as the early 90's got a lot of "system less" games run at conventions, at least out here, I cannot speak to the US scene in that regard.
Add in TTWG's, Board games, computer games...........
Holy hell, that is a LONG list.
You are absolutely right however, we were, and remain, GAMERS. (even without the time to do it as much as we used to)
      You're my geek right?
Bought this new box of fun, wanna give it a go?

OK, with a supplement for Silver Bayonet being written by Ash (GMG games) I suspect a definite narritive feel to it - guess SIlver Bayonet is moving into my 'purchase when the funds allow' list (i.e, when there is another Osprey sale).

Okay, making a movie about Frostgrave sounds like an awesome idea. While I haven't played the game I started reading about it and about the game's lore (which I gather is mostly created by the players), watching videos quite a bit, and I love the world it's set in and the stories that came out of it.

The 5 Parsecs/5 Leagues campaign structure does have a narrative arc that drives the subsequent table rolls. In some ways it mirrors some of the campaign arc supplements Joe has written for Stargrave but with a bit more randomization. But I can totally see from a design perspective where one would not want to design random tables.

    • @tabletopalchemy
      @tabletopalchemy  Před 11 měsíci +1

Yeah I want aware of the 5 parsec system so I found that very interesting and may have to pick it up to check it out but I also understood Joe’s point as well. Awesome thing about the hobby is there’s room for every type of player and creator!

Now you are best buddies with the amazing Joe McCullough can you influence him to make an asian themed game system. SamuraiGrave or a 7 kingdoms table skirmish game or just something set in the far east. It would be nice to see a project that is less centred on Europen themes.

Would be really interesting to know what Joe thinks of: -
    1) Infinity?
    2) Brawlmachine?
Infinity is so different to a lot of wargames, but has the d20 and the responiveness (and the lethality!) that Joe seems to like.
And Brawlmachine seems to me the BEST incarnation of Warmachine - perhaps what the game could always have been as they severely cut the points but also banned some of the most powerful casters in the game to even out the power, and for all the issues with PP the fundamental game system is still good imo.

I'm UK based, and the strikes over there have stopped a lot of work over here too (good luck to them, mind!), so I'm currently doing leatherwork breakdown for a props dept on a medieval film. Stargrave is one of my favorite skirmish games. I've really noticed a push in both RPGs and skirmish games to not only simplify rules and distill them down to what is needed to facilitate fast and fun play, but to explore really different genres and worlds. Especially in indie style RPGs and miniature games.

3 hours of interviews in 72 hours.............
    I KILL YOU!!!
(now I have got the Achmed off my chest)
Actually, I'm not entirely sure what to say, both were good, but for different reasons. I think the interview you controlled here was better than the one you gave, but I would chalk that more up to being in the direct "public eye" rather than anything actually being wrong.
I think there is a certain amount of control as an interviewer rather than an interviewee you find more comfortable, and that is much of a stylistic decision, or imperative, choose which one fits better.
    The Director Vs the Actor?
I don't know, there is a fan around here covered in brown goo, we'll see what sticks😂😆
I do feel you interviewing and having creative control is a far better format........... at this stage simply because that seems to be what you are more familiar with.
I have no doubt you are capable of getting to the other side of things.
    As for the content.
Fantastic questions, fantastic answers, throw in some hot wings and you are on a roll (or perhaps some of your brothers tapped kegs.........)

🤣 Yes kegs and Kaiser’s either way we rollin’! Yeah I’m definitely not an “on-camera” type, but some of that inevitably has to do with practice lol. And editing! I feel a lot more comfortable when there’s an edit involved. I streamed Minecraft for two years and got fairly decent at “chilling” on the mic but I ran without a face cam lol. And I do dig asking questions. Maybe I just need to drink the beer *beforehand* … 🏴‍☠️🍻
