    Yoir heart dissolved OMG!
    I use lye crystals mixed with water for everything...no need to soak it works in 5 mins.

    for rusty tools battery acid from an old battery or sno bowl toilet cleaner-- for fuel tanks or mixed materials vinegar

    If you can get your hands on it, 30% phosphoric acid is like MAGIC for cleaning rusty steel.
    I had an old meat cleaver that had a thick layer of orange rust all over it. Wiped it down with a paper towel soaked in the acid and gave it a rinse. Second wipe on the spots that didn't clean up first round, and another rinse. Done. Under two minutes total.
    Dip in a solution of baking soda to neutralize any acid residue, dry, apply a little oil to prevent the object rusting again.

    I thought rust removal was a reduction process, since rusting is an oxidation process
