Dive into the untold story of the Kingdom of Champa in Vietnam, where a significant yet largely forgotten chapter of history unfolded, leading to Vietnam's first and only war of jihad.
In the late 600s, as Islam spread through the maritime trade routes of Southeast Asia, the Hindu kingdom of Champa stood on the brink of a monumental transformation. Influenced by Muslim merchants, many locals, including members of the royal family, embraced Islam, setting the stage for a dramatic shift in the region's religious and cultural landscape.
This video explores the centuries-long conflict between Champa and its northern neighbor, Đại Việt, culminating in a desperate struggle for survival and identity.
Witness the resilience of the Cham people as they defended their last bastions, Panduranga and Kauthara, against Đại Việt's conquests, and how their conversion to Islam became a beacon of hope and defiance.
Join us as we unveil the story of Champa's last stand, the spread of Islam among the Cham people, and the historic war of jihad that marked the zenith of their resistance against assimilation and conquest.

A small mistake, Dai Viet at that time was not a Hindu religion based country and was in the so called Sino-sphere culture as the like of China, Korea,Japan which embraces Buddhism and Confucinist thoughts. The Cham switch to Muslim was also because of the declined of Hindu religion in region as the Vietnamese dominated all of the other Hindu states and all of them started switching religion ( most turn to Buddhism).

Vietnamese were tribal, tatted wind-worshiping nomadic people like Arabs, Turks, and Mongolians in which the Chinese called Bai-Yue. The Vietnamese didn’t have a kingdom until 938 AD. Cambodia is a native Atlantis-like kingdom for thousands of years. Vietnam/Vietnamese didnt declare a Jihad, since the Cham were a different nation and still are a different ethnicity.
Fun fact, the last war was sparked by the Chams tradition to burn the wifes with their deceased husbands. The Viet royal family, who happened to be present, didnt allow their princess to be burned with the deceased Cham king, they fought their way out with her and finished Champa.

The Vietnamese have another war with Muslims but on a larger scale. Cambodia in the mid-17th century was briefly a Muslim kingdom and the newly overthrown Buddhist forces ran to the Vietnamese for help. During the suppression of Katip Sumat, the Vietnamese had only 1,000 troops, but in the war with Muslim Cambodia, the Vietnamese used up to 3,000 troops. In truth, the Vietnamese won easily, because their firearms were completely superior to that of their neighbors at the same time.

Cambodia was never a Muslim country. Cambodia was always an Atlantis-like Kingdom that worships hierarchy and praise the uniquest-born human (fraternal twin) as a prophesied King. There are many tribal people in the world that worship the wind. The Kingdom of Cambodia is not one of them. Buddhism is like Christianity and Ancient Egyptian Pharaohs which I love. Kingdoms are rare and unique. Tribal people that worship the wind as a creator is global. That’s why a garden which is a tamed, man-made place in which botanicals and floras are divided to create peace and serenity is used as a metaphor for the very first kingdom on Earth. A man-made garden which represents a Kingdom is in contrast to the untamed, natural wilderness (tribal people).

When it comes to intolerance of other religions between christians and muslims, I know that it is written in christian documents that you must be saved via Jesus Christ. I had a muslim friend that was married to a christian woman and he claimed that christians were not automatically condemned by their version of God called Allah.
But christians do believe people or at least some people that were never saved do eventually get a second chance after some sort purgatory and 2nd coming of christ. The jews are still waiting for a messiah.
But I do know of people claiming to be Muslims having forced conversions of Jews to Islam during Turkish rule of Palestine.
Point is people do things in the name of religion that are not mandated by their religion.
Christianity in western Europe in many places was spread by the sword and the conquistadors did so wherever they went in what is now latin America. They drove the jews and muslims out of spain by violence. Torquemada the priest was famous for torturing people suspected of jewish practices in spain.
The muslims by law: Islam views Christians and Jews as "People of the Book" who should be allowed to practice their own religions, while holding them in higher regard than pagans and unbelievers. Muslims also believe that Muhammad is the "seal of the prophecy," meaning he is the last in the series of prophets God sent to mankind. However, Muslims also regard Christians as kafirs (unbelievers) who commit shirk (polytheism) because of the Trinity, and thus, contend that they must be dhimmis (religious taxpayers) under Sharia law.

Muslims believe that Jews and Christians have strayed from God's true faith but hold them in higher esteem than pagans and unbelievers. They call Jews and Christians the "People of the Book" and allow them to practice their own religions. Muslims believe that Muhammad is the "seal of the prophecy," by which they mean that he is the last in the series of prophets God sent to mankind. Muslims abhor the followers of later prophets. This attitude serves to explain the extreme Muslim animosity toward Bahais, followers of a nineteenth-century prophet, who in the Muslim mind is false.

Christians similarly possess a wide range of views about Islam.
Christianity was born from within the Jewish tradition, and Islam developed from both Christianity and Judaism. There have been differences among these religions, but there was a rich cultural interchange between Jews, Christians, and Muslims that took place in Islamic Spain and other places over centuries.

His particular tribe or Suku is from Suku Jambak. It has been long thought that the word Jambak is a corruption of the word Champa when they first migrated to Sumatra and the rest of Nusantara (Malay Archipelago) following the Vietnamese invasion and displacement of the Chams in 1471 and beyond. All of this is important because it shows that all of the countries in the Nusantara are not only tied together in terms of language, traditions, and cultures but also through religion as evidenced when the Chams and my grandfather's ancestors converted to Islam from Hinduism and Animism a long time ago :). Our highest form of brotherhood should always be Muslims, but that does not mean that we should not be close to each other because of our shared histories, cultures, and traditions :).

Vietnamese along with ethnic Thais were wild, tribal, tatted, superstitious, wind-worshipping nomads with short hair in which the Chinese called Bai-Yue meaning 100 ethnic tribes. The majority of the Southeast Asian archipelago were also tribal, superstitious, wind-worshipping people that is why they easily converted to a religion like Islam which worships the wind like Pocahontas.

No there was never a Muslim king in Cambodia. Who misinformed you or where did you even get such information? I studied Cambodian history since middle school almost rigorously which was 24 years ago. I never ever came across such a thing. Moreover, Muslims cannot be king. They are anti-monarchy. They are basically institutionalized superstitious tribal wind-worshipping pagans who refuse to kneel to the uniquest-born human (a fraternal twin) that is chosen to be the very first sovereign human God-King on Earth to create human law and order. To raise a Muslim to be king is akin to raising an envious villain who hates the idea of a king, only to desire to be king, or a slave who preaches equality only to be the new hierarchy-which is clearly hypocrisy.

Then there was an uprising among the local Chinese and these Arabs and Persian Muslims had to flee south and some of them settled down in Cham and that was one of the reasons why the Chams became Muslims and some even looked like middle eastern. Islam came to Cham from their south via traders and from their north via refugees.

By 1000BC, the second wave of now Bronze Age Austroasiatics brought Bronze technology to SEA, arriving to the Red River delta, establishing the Viet-Muong, marked by their bronze drums. There were no Negritos there at this point, and definitely no Chams, just Austroasiatic Chut hunter gatherers who have Negrito ancestry, but stopped farming. You should not apologize, history and conquest is always like that. The Ottoman Turks also wiped away the great Byzantine Empire and the Mongols also wiped away the great Abbasid Caliphate. In that case we would all have to apologize for some reason or the other.
