Hi everyone - in the summer I packed up all my belongings and headed to Massachusetts in the USA to embark on my Camp America / Camp Leaders adventure at Camp Romaca.
I had so many people ask me what I wish I knew before going (such as Camp counsellor secrets, what it's really like teaching at a summer camp) that I did a Camp America Experience Q&A video which you can watch here:

and I had so many more questions about Camp Counsellor life that I filmed '10 Things You Need To Know Before Doing Camp America' which I hope you find helpful! This is everything they don't tell you at the Camp America recruitment fairs and I wish I had known some of these secrets!

I think for fairness of this video - you're not talking about Camp America the company, but an experience you had at one particular camp through the agency Camp Leaders.
Is the agency Camp Leaders bad? I also consider using it
Oh yeah, I agree
Generally looking into it as well as talking to friends about it , it's a great experience and you get a good reason to travel long afterwards besides that tho your earnings are not worth it and if you plan traveling after it won't cover the full cost. So for someone that already has a job it ain't ideal, as far as work experience I think it is helpful only for a handful of positions and if you are looking into getting in that line of profession.
This was so enlightening! And your makeup looks beautiful as always! ;)
So for future knowledge, an employer can not hold your paycheck hostage for any reason
my jaw actually dropped when you said they held your paycheck over your head! that's awful etiquette in any sort of job. that and the disappearance of all the staff on the last day sounds so bizarre and the complete opposite of what happened at my camp (I was often having so much fun I forgot I was going to get a paycheck at the end of the summer! and after the first 2-3 weeks they allowed people to take out small amounts of cash from paychecks to pay for days off etc, and all of the senior staff was waiting at the gates giving everyone individual hugs as we left to get on the bus) but I'm so glad you still managed to feel the camp magic and form amazing bonds despite how strangely all of that happened!
Yeah it almost felt like we were at school being threatened by teachers! Omg that's so sweet they gave you hugs as you left! I honestly have no idea where the senior staff went it was so creepy!
Kim Idol hi can I ask what camp you went to? Would rather something like that than her experience!
if it makes you feel any better, experiences like mine are a lot more common than the one in this video, i've found :) no matter what agency you go through, you should have an interview with someone who can answer your questions about the particular camp you're being considered for (often a senior staff member there) and you can totally ask about the culture or any questions you have. I knew from my interview that my camp promotes a large camp "family" feel and focuses on building strong, kind relationships. Lots of them do, not just mine! I went to Camp Wah-Nee, but getting placed by an agency will make sure you go to a camp where the activities AND culture interest you :)
I felt the same, I got paid ever 2 weeks from what i remember
I am glad that you made it through the experience. It sounds like an experience I would avoid at all costs! Watching and Supporting, LIKING another video!
GIRL I'm from Taconic and my heart DROPPED when you said Hinsdale!
Oh my god are you!! That's not far at all is it x
Omg wait I never knew about the camps like that! This is the first time I am hearing about this! I can't believe they did that to you! đšđšđšđš
Well done Charley!! Honestly spot on hahah camp was the best but the strangest experience ever. People totally don't think about the culture clash. So happy you are doing youtube xoxo
I think it is outrageous that you weren't given breaks and some personal time. This issue of threatening your paycheck sounds illegal.labor laws were probably broken by the way they treated you.
Thank you for posting this video!
i live in america so this was so
interesting for me. just to see the differences
you noticed and the struggles. and cleaning goose poop wth?!? i canât believe they asked you to do that. great video đ
Aw thanks so much megan ! Haha I know so bad đđ
It really depends on the camp you apply to. I would suggest Camp Willson which is also in America. They allow you your phone, and you will have little to no problems there! đ
Update: Thank you for the heart, love! đ
Where to in America is this and can it be booked through Camp leaders?
Woah such great info!
I literally canât believe some of the camp stories I hear! Makes me so thankful that I got a good one đ€Żđ
Wow girl I did camp in 2017 and this was so alike to my experience! I wish I had seen this before I wentđ
Capturing Chez oh my god really! glad you agree đđșđž
Charley Bourne litterally I thought I was just the only one who didnât think it was the best experience of my lifeđđ like it was great but it was so stressful! & even some of the counsellors were soooooo bitchy I couldnât dealđ«đ so glad that youâve spoken the truth girl!
yeah soooo stressful! So many people left or got fired from our camp - I know I sound negative in my videos but you're so right - it wasn't at all as easy as everyone makes out it's gonna be. I literally was so mentally drained that I couldn't enjoy it to the absolute full đ
Charley Bourne omg litterallyđââïžđđ» I agree 100% , I was starting to think it was just my camp and I should go back to a different one but obviously not!!â€ïž
@@Justchez_ which camp did you go to please? I am applying right now and I want to know which ones to avoid.
The concept you discussed of âyou have to continue even if youâre sickâ is worryingly not limited to your camp. I saw them push counsellors out who had bronchitis, pneumonia etc to go lifeguard. I had a piece of machinery dropped on my foot and wasnât allowed medical attention for 3 days as they âhad no one to cover for me and I needed to just suck it upâ and after my foot was put in a cast and I was told to continue teaching. My foot is still in a cast 5 months on and Iâm due surgery now. As youâve said in your other videos, if I had said no then Iâd have had to pay that ÂŁ2,500 which wasnât an option, so I had to continue!!
That's terrible, I'm considering doing camp but I'm hearing about alot of this sort of thing which is worrying
Right, I just finished my application and I so glad I watched this because now I'm having doubts about going. I'll wait and see if and where I'm allocated but I honestly don't want to have to be in an environment like that for 3 months.
Just make sure its a good camp, I worked at an adhd camp and it is really hard work, if you want to have fun choose the right camp and you'll love it.
Did you end up going?
@@Jay-lr3me did you get to choose your camp? Or do they choose for you?
From your agency, Camp Leaders' website:
Time Off/Wellbeing
Each camp is different in the way they structure time off, so check in with your camp about your time and days off. If it doesnât sound right then donât be afraid to ask your supervisor or contact the Camp Leaders US office.
Camp is great fun, but it is also extremely exhausting and you do not have much time to yourself. Be sure to take time out for yourself, during off periods at camp and on your day off.
Summer camp can be an intense environment and we want to make sure that youâre taken care of not just physically but emotionally too. If you feel youâre overwhelmed, take the time to speak to someone or give us a call to check in with you.
Hi, iâm from the PH thanks for the info!đ
Hey charley, I actually just got an offer this morning to go work with them this summer. Was it really that bad? Because after watching ur video, Iâm reconsidering and rethinking everything
Do not let any of what she says put you off camp BUT do realise there are hugely different expectations that employers in the US have to employers in the UK. One big difference is not having your phone while on shift. Most camps will provide lockers where phones can be locked away and charged during the day and again most camps will allow you to use your phone while not with campers. For example in the morning before wake up, during the day if you have a period off or in the evening after your campers have gone to bed and you are on your time off. As for camps withholding paycheques it doesn't ever happen unless you are actually fired in which case you will receive what you're owed for what you've worked. A bad camp shouldn't put anybody off doing camp, there are hundreds of amazing camps out there, I'm returning for my 5th summer and honestly yeah it was kinda tough going in my first year but that because its a completely new work environment. Also in terms of time off you need to stand your ground same goes for if you are poorly, your time off is your time off. My advice would be do it again except this time apply to an agency that runs big hiring fairs so you can go, talk to camp directors, figure out what their policies are and what they would be like to work for and go from there.
Coming to support gave you a like and watched đđđŸđ
I love watching your videos
Think this all really depends on the camp youâre at! I was at camp last summer and I didnât have any of these issues at all! Your camp sounds terrible if they treated you like this.
Hi Amy yeah Ive heard great things about other camps- I wish I had read the reviews about romaca before going - I think it's one of the worst ones x
Charley Bourne thatâs such a shame they did some of those things to you đ
Pages on things like facebook for camps and programs seen to have changed so you can't find the reviews especially negative ones as early now. Have to come to things like youtube videos to see what people really think.
Did they have issues with you using your phone?
Amy - which camp was you based at?
It really does depend on the camp you go to I recommend Camp Sycamore Hills in Nashville itâs really nice and amazing there very nice and rarely have big problems I think you would like it this summer will be my 4th summer staying for camp I am not a counselor there but will be in the future I hope you consider this thx
Hello girl, could you please tell me about the accommodation? where did you stay during all camp?
Counselors at my camp use our phones to communicate with each other. We text to see who's still down in the cabins or who's still at the pool and things like that. I understand why some camps don't allow this, but it was very helpful to be able to communicate with the other counselors
Alex Ray hey Alex - yeah it would have been so much better if they had just said we were allowed but maybe like just be discreet. The whole camp vibe was just basically rules & fear. It wasnât good
Great information
I've worked with little kids before and it is really cool that they look up to you and want to be around you, but good lord they really don't ever leave you alone lolđ€Łđ©
haha I totally agree! It's lovely at first but constantly for 3 months when you want a good nights sleep it's like ahhhhhhđđđđđ
I am thinking about going on an summercamp as counsellor. It seems awesome and i hear great things about people on the web. What you are saying however seems quite bad. Maybe had some bad luck with camp placing? Im just wondering if it is possible to choose specific camps with camp america? or do they just let you choose camp types en choose for you? i am very excited about going but i have never done this before so i don't know all these things xD. Nice video btw :)
Iâve never done it, I got half way through applying and I was getting interviewed by camps, you get the choice if you want to go to a camp, they let you decide of course it all depends if they offer you a spot then you can decide if itâs the right camp for you, you can decline camps if you donât think they are the right ones for you!!
Hope this helped, 1. Year later haha
@@mikefrewofficial1731 hey! Can i ask why you didnât end up going?
Some of these things are crazy, your pay check being held like whaaaat?!đ± .. sorry your experience was like that, but people also need to remember it varies on camps how they are đ
thanks for sharing
Great video, I liked it. Greetings from Germany :-)
Hi, can anyone suggest great camps that they went to?
Sorry for your experience.
Loved your video! What camp did you stay at? Feel like I would need to avoid it by what youâve said đ©đ X
Thanks so much lovely - haha I stayed at camp romaca - yeah to be fair it could be so good but the staff treat international staff pretty badly and they never give you a break!
research camp vega, they're the best and respect their staff
In all honesty, what is your overall thought on your experience?? Is it worth going? Will I hate it? Will I wanna go back every year?
Totally depends on the camp I think! I personally am glad I did the camp thing but wish I had researched my camp better. Itâs a great experience and Iâm sure I would have wanted to keep going back if Iâd been at a camp with more supportive senior staff
Did you go explore America after camp? If you do is that planned with other camp leaders?
Hey! Yes I did I went to Miami and New York :) I would advise to plan it when you get there as you will meet lots of friends and you'll decide on cool things to do - I wouldn't recommend booking it before you go or doing it with trek America etc as lots of people at camp actually meet Americans and end up staying at their houses in amazing places so it ends up much more fun and cheaper :) x
How many flught did u have to take to get to u camp and was there any layovers
Hey babe, what camera do you use to vlog with, I want to vlog a few things when Iâm out in America so I can show friends when Iâm back!
Hi lovely - I have linked my camera in my video called something like Tips on starting CZcams - itâs a Sony something âșïžyouâre gonna have so much funnn âșïž
Charley Bourne thank you!!!
Love ur makeup
What was your camp? your experience is unusual - although the camp staff are generally a little odd, they're generally lovely people.
There's also the pennridge student who almost drowned in the pool.
Yep this clearly isn't for me đ thank you for the video
I think itâs nuts that you didnât get your paycheck until the end of camp! We get paid every other week. I think you just got a really crappy camp. Iâm so sorry you had a terrible experience, I genuinely wouldnât have made it a whole summer like that.
Also, Iâm at a Girl Scout Camp, the time off thing definitely applies đ We only get 24 hours off on Saturdays, from 9am Saturday to 9am Sunday. We also get two hours off a day for a break. Those are usually filled up with paperwork or laundry though.
Hi angel - ah that sounds good I wish we got paid every other week. Yeah so many people went home and quit half way through our camp or got fired for so many reasons. glad you have a nice camp! Yes itâs tough isnât it the long hours especially when you have to be so enthusiastic and stuff the whole time! Itâs draining isnât it - glad you have a better camp though! âșïžâš
Charley Bourne If you decide to try it again, I hope it works out better this time! â€ïž
Know if you quit and go home the camp program you went with sends you a bill for what they would have got out your pay from the camp for you been there and it can be a lot!
nope my camp would not pay you and constantly threaten that youâd get nothing
I think it 100% depends on what camp youâre at. My camp was absolutely amazing and I felt and experienced none of these things. My camp was no where near as strict.I think it also depends on you as a person :) also what age kids you get!!
We are also aloud pay cards so we can get our money throughout camp. And we would never work on our off time đ no way! And if we were sick and diagnosed by our nurse, we had to stay in bed in the nurses office.
I honestly believe you got the worst possible camp. I know so many people who have been and they never had any of this. Shame you had a bad experience!!!
I highly recommend people give it a go. Itâs not for everyone but itâs a great experience :)
Hi Jessica! Thanks for your comment. Totally agree - I have heard so many people since doing this video that have told me how many other amazing camps there are. I am actually glad I went to the strict camp that I did as it made me grow a lot as a person and forced me to deal with situations I never otherwise would have.
Also I think it depends how old you are - maybe I was too old to do camp (26) because I live alone and was so used to having independence etc.
Glad you had a much better camp though and totally agree that it is a really worthwhile experience âșïžđ
Charley Bourne for sure there are sooooo many factors!! But Iâm glad you too something away from it at least!! Yeah you have to be a super outgoing person who loves being around people all the time đ
What camp did you go to? (Iâm thinking of going next year)
ES.AY. AM Iâm at greenwood trails :) currently there now! :)
Hope youâre having a great summer!
Im thinking about going to camp leaders and your experience kinda scared me , im sorry for you that really fucked up .
It sounds like a boot campđđ. Just be a holiday rep it's well more funđŻđ
Question: Do you have to be a university student or graduated to get a place at a camp?
Thanks!
Ryan Villiers not at all :) you can be any level of education âșïž
Charley Bourne Thank you for the reply! :)
Hi there great video! Did they drug and alcohol test you at camp ?
Hey thank you, no they didnât but they were v strict with if you were found to have any alcohol on you or came back drunk off a night out
I got placed in a camp recently. I wonder sth, should i make my travel plan before coming to usa or in usa? Like you know we state our return ticket before coming to usa
Hey I would say to sort it once youâre there as you will make friends at your camp and you may want to all organise together
@@CharleyBourne Did you buy flexible ticket
aren't you allowed on your phone say on breaks and stuff?
Iâm thinking about camp America this summer, must admit Iâll have to give this place a wide berth! Canât believe they threatened you with your paychequeâčïž
yeah definitely do camp America hun just not this camp đ
Charley Bourne hopefully some of the other camps will be better! Great video btw, love your tone and style x
Have you done a packing video? This would be very useful
Hi molly - good idea I will film one this weekend! âșïž
Thank you!
Hi molly - filming this now just to let you know :) should be up either Sunday or Monday evening âșïžđ
Charley Bourne Awh thank youâ€ïž
The closest thing I have to compare your experience to is Girl Scout count a long time ago LOL. I absolutely hated it. I heard all the fuss somehow it was so cool to go to and how much you had to work to get up to the point where you could go to Girl Scout camp and I thought I just had a bad person experience so I did it again the next summer and it was exactly the same horrible. They made me scrub toilets because I wouldn't be quiet during that time LOL. I never cleaned a toilet before that. I personally didn't like it at all I mean there is a few good times during it but overall not a good experience for me personally. I know I couldn't be a counselor at I can't either because I like my personal space way too much. I mean I have two girls of my own but they know to give me my personal space when I want it especially during my hour and a half bath timeđ. I really enjoyed listening to your story though. Great video!
Aw thanks Valerie. That sounds terrible! Yes definitely personal space is now what I appreciate so much - just being able to have a shower in private and having all my own personal items and not having to worry they will go missing xxx
THAT SOUNDS AWFUL the only camp Iâve been to was band camp and there are no jobs and crap
tfs.... chill!!!!
Hi if you do a certain activity can you still try new activities even if they are not your speciality
Hey! Totally depends on your camp but at our camp there was scope to try other activities within your department e.g. I was able to take both yoga classes as well as teach spinning and zumba as they were in my department. In the first week of camp too they offered taster sessions to allow the workers to try activities just for fun such as rock climbing etc but it was just a one off session x
Thanks x
Which camp did she do?
This video shouldn't have Camp America in the title. They are an agency. None of the problems you mentioned are any fault of Camp America.
It's basically a scam, you work in horrible conditions for like $2 a hour or so. That's why they get each year more than 90% new staff.
As a 3rd year I don't agree with this. This is 100% situational on the camp that you're at.
Notification gangđđ
đđđđ
Totally pointless most of these points you've made as it all depends on what camp you've gone too. And your camp sounded terrible. Mine was a lot different to yours and for the most was brilliant. Also the whole phone thing; you are working at your job and shouldn't have it on you anyway. I'm sure you checked it in downtime and that is fair. You are being paid to work, not socialize with mates back home.
Oliver Madariaga hey Oliver. Totally understand that Iâm there to work, however, for the well-being of staff who are away from family across the other side of the world, when already in such an alien setting, I felt they could have been more reasonable in not making it so hard for us to keep in touch. Not saying I want to be sat texting friends all day just would like to be able to at least quietly and discretely sit and text my mum while Iâm in my bunk. We were told no phones anywhere under any circumstance or youâre fired which I felt was harsh
Right in saying it can depend on what the camps like you get sent too, but do not find the points in this video pointless. Find it to be very honest about some of the more difficult experiences you can have and what can make them harder.
What camp did you go to?
Oliver Madariaga Hahaha I wouldnât exactly call it âpaidâ. Not bragging but here in New Zealand anyone could easily make the paycheck Camps will give you in 2 or 1 week!
Why is this called "The Truth about Camp America; What they don't want you to know"? This is just a laundry list of your physical and emotional difficulties that you experienced at your one particular camp. Of course Camp America wants you to know these things, and I'm quite certain you would have been "warned" of everything if you reviewed your camp's website and poked around on Reddit a bit. I hope you realize that these things that made your life at camp so hard are pretty much things that, in one way or another, will continue to plague you for your entire life, especially if you get a real job with a real boss, and/or have kids of your own someday. Also, if you had no idea that it rains regularly in America, you really didn't do your homework. It's not one big California here. America is as varied in its climate as all of Europe, that's like being in Denmark and shocked that it is snowing, having assumed it would be warm and sunny like in Spain. I've worked as a camp nurse for nearly a decade, and I'm really surprised that you just didn't go to the nurse about that reaction you described. I could have helped you with a dose of Benedryl. Regarding your paycheck, you should be telling the Agency Camp America about that, they will definitely be able to straighten that out with your particular camp if you are describing the situation accurately. I'm sorry your experience wasn't positive, but hopefully it toughened you up a bit as you grow and mature as a person. EDITED to add: I checked Camp Leaders' website. They TOTALLY say bring a raincoat and warm hoodie.
Is Canada camps better than American camps ?
You can't deny pay in America. They're required to pay you for your hours worked.
Did anyone get Fired from your camp? I'm really scared of getting fired this summer
Hi Jay - what are you scared of getting fired over? I did have a strict camp - quite a lot of people did get fired but it was loads of different reasons
Charley Bourne Hi I don't know how strick my camp will be but I heard camp horror stories about people being fired for very little things I'm being paranoid I know haha
haha I felt the same - we had people fired for having medication in the bunks (you have to hand it in to the medical centre even paracetamol) and for being drunk and having alcohol in the bunk - that's pretty most the most common reason to get fired
Charley Bourne so basically its Just common sense to not get fired I feel less scared now Thanks đ
@@jaywilliams9294 I feel you, I have anxiety and get worried over everything. Specially upon hearing that if you're fired or quit that you have to pay the money you would have earned
The rain depends near the West it hardly ever rains
Oh really! I was definitely prepared for sunshine only xxx
It rains more on the east coast but the closer you get to the west the less rain there is. Last year at my camp in Colorado it only rained twice the whole summer
How long were u there for
Hey! 3 months in total
how long were you there and how much were you paid?
I was at the camp for 2 and a half months and got paid $800
@@CharleyBourne that is a horrible amount. Did the agency pay for your flight? Because really that's way too little even counting the fact that the job already pays less than minimum wage for the hours. I thought you get paid $1,500-$2,700 generally
Hey! The agency did pay for the flight but itâs honestly such a tiny amount of money. They get away with it because technically youâre getting like free accommodation and food at the camp x
Hi, was this through Camp America or Americamp?
Hey! I went through a company called Camp Leaders
Charley Bourne Hi! Would you recommend using the company?
Yeah definitely good for assisting you with your visa etc takes a lot of the stress out of it- just be aware that they are an agency so do take a large chunk of your money and you have to pay them a large amount if you chose to leave
Oh my god, I'm going to camp in summer I'm kinda scared
Donât be scared I just had a bad camp lol. Iâve been told normally camps arenât like mine was
@@CharleyBourne I really hope not lol but at least you met good people and got to experience all of it :)
@@CharleyBourne turns out it was cancelled with Covid hahahaha
There is a camp called Camp America?
no itâs an agency that sets you up with camps in America
Personally I think the way that some camps treat foreign staff is atrocious. I was very I'll with an allergic reaction to a spider bite and the whole time they were badgering me to start working again, secondly I absolutely agree with the sentiments about family back home, I had a very ill mum, a girlfriend and a group full of friends who I never got to talk to and was scorned everytime I tried, they have no empathy for their counsellors and the pay is ridiculously low to the point where my flights almost totalled the same as what I earned.. I would avoid camp unless you have 1. Someone there with you to support you also as a councillor (be it friend family etc) or 2. Know the camp directors or have them recommended by a friend
I got placed in a camp recently. I wonder sth, should i make my travel plan before coming to usa or in usa? Like you know we state our return ticket before coming to usa
players definitely in the USA as you never know who you'll meet
Can I ask what specific camp you went to?
Hi hun I went to camp Romaca in hinsdale Massachusetts x
Thankyou! Was this like a private or Girl Scout camp etc? X
It was a private camp for really rich girls! If you google it I swear itâs like one of the most expensive camps to send your kids to! I think I might have preferred a mixed camp with kids less well off x
Ohh okay! Brill thanks sm x
Well itâs your fault for not packingđnot like they were trying to hide the fact that it rains
she wasnât blaming them she was just stating things she wish she knew??
Omg donât want to clean up any poo at alll
natojirm _beauty đđđI hope there's no more poo cleaning for the rest of my life
Goose poo????? F that!
Wow, your camp sounds awful. I have worked at camp for the past 6 years and this couldnât be further than my experience. Please
Guys donât be put off the program because of this. All camps are not the same!
What camp was you at?
which camp were you at?
Terrible treatment. As an American, I find this shoddy abandonment at the end of the camp to be an appalling lack of hospitality & thoughtfulness
towards foreigners. Zero national pride.
Where was this camp?? Need to make sure I donât go here
Hi
Well what do u expect
Sounds like The company you worked for were cowboys
I wish you come to Russia some day, Charley.
hell has no fury like a woman scorned
I think you are talking about the camp not the agency you used to travel. Weather is dependent on where you go so if you dont do your homework seems like that's a problem you have. As far as not having your phone in front of kids there are so many reasons why this is logical. Kids contacting home phoning friends accessing your private pictures. The pay check being dangled is illegal and sounds camp specific. You should be prepared to work. It's not a vacation. Your job is a counselor in a sleepaway camp. You should get your breaks and your days off/nights off. If YOUR CAMP didnt do this its camp specific and I think you are being irresponsible sending a message that this is EVERYONE'S experience. You should rename and align your comments with the camp you attended. Sounds like you were not prepared by your camp before you arrived. It's the hardest and most rewarding experience you will ever have in your life. You will probably hit a low point but it will be matched with a high point. Again this message is tailored for the camp you were at do not tarnish the experience of others.
Calm down, I made it clear within the video that it was camp specific
Well shit, this makes it sound alot worse than others have made it out haha
Haha no honestly I think it was just my camp - I've heard great things about other camps just do your research before deciding which one to go to :)
Yeah will do, how many different offers did you get? any what made you decide on your choice?
I didn't realise I had any sort of choice to be honest so just accepted romaca when I got offered them. Wish I had read the reviews on glassdoor beforehand though. I believe you can have a few different choices
Yeah im waiting for my references to be approved at the moment (god knows how long that takes) and im guessing the reviews for that place wernt very good then?
refs didn't take too long if I remember correctly - yeah the reviews on glassdoor are awful for romaca and I do agree with everything that's said
đđđđ
wait so odd because you told the same story in a different video about your sickness but you changed the words so your lying
Sage Ruttenberg lol I wasnât lying - I woke up with an allergic reaction. My department head saw my face and how bad it was when I bumped into her at breakfast. She told me to have a lie down and then I got called over the tannoy to go and teach that afternoon even though I had taken medication that made me extremely drowsy and my face was still blown up
:)
As somebody who will be working at a summer camp (one very similar to yours) for my 6th consecutive summer in a couple of weeks, I really struggled to watch this. I think 'what they don't want you to know' is a pretty irresponsible way of wording it. I hope that the way you portray an experience that honestly, I just don't think you were fully prepared for, doesn't put people off experiencing something as magical and life changing as camp. Being a camp counselor is TOUGH and nobody hides that. The agencies don't and the camp leadership definitely doesn't. I've scrubbed goose poop off lake toys and unclogged toilets and cleaned up puke and had about 8 hours too few sleep for the job I'm doing. But I've also had the opportunity to develop the most amazing bonds with my co-counselors and campers, find a family across the other side of the world and develop in so many ways! I'm sorry you felt so negatively about your experience at camp but I genuinely believe working at camp is the experience you make it and that if you're going to use your platform to talk about camp, you could maybe do that in a way that doesn't potentially misinform others!
Thank you for your opinion. To be honest I donât really agree with âbeing a camp counsellor is tough and nobody hides thatâ. I really felt that was totally glossed over in my whole application process. We were shown incredible looking videos that made it look like we would be doing so many activities and getting so involved etc. At my camp (I canât speak for yours) that wasnât the case. I also know (now since being back and researching) that some things were totally illegal such as blackmailing us with our pay cheque.
I do however feel that I did include some positives in this video because all in all Iâm still glad I had the experience and I did want that to come across in all my camp videos. Thank you for commenting though I do value everyoneâs opinions and do try and improve my videos where I can
im sorry but i cant belive you didnt know this

Your camp sounds TERRIBLE. I donât have problem with any of these! If they treat you like this you should not be going to this camp anymore
Professionalism, seems like you struggled with it

How did you even survive to be this old? I can't believe there are people that spoiled and fragile.
I canât believe thereâs trolls with anonymous CZcams accounts đ
