:*( What i admire most about Inigo... was that he handed his sword over to the man he was supposed to kill, there by disarming himself. The stranger could have easily stabbed inigo through the heart, with his own sword, as a final insult and moved on. But he took it, admired it and handed it back!
Very respectful, honorable among true warriors
I love they're both so classy Inigo can literally hand Wesley his sword to check it out.
They bonded when he threw Wesley the rope
I personally see it as backing away from people who they previously gave praise to who were considered freaks, such as kind-hearted All In The Family stock boy George Bushmill
i reference this so much, yet nobody EVER understands it. it kind of makes me sad, sad that no one has seen the best movie ever.
That is upsetting.
You're living in the wrong place, then, my friend.
I love that I’m not the only one who refers to this as the best movie ever
Here is one of the greatest dramatic scenes in movie history sitting in the middle of a comedy.
Probably one of the best pieces of exposition in any film. Classic.
Sam Russell With an equally great payoff
There's something about Inigos facial expressions that I just love. Because of this I have watched this movie about 3 times for the last 2 weeks. Genius
His tale of revenge, his plan to find the Count, and his ever so famous Line "Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die!" Absolute inspiration, can never be topped
That is because Mandy Patinkin, who played him, was offered any role in the film. He specifically chose this role, for it struck him very closely, as he could relate, having been in a tremendous depression over the loss of his true father.
TheDullahan
SPOILERS
He's actually said in interview that he visualised the character Count Rogen as the cancer which killed his father, to help motivate him. At the end of the movie when he runs the Count through, and says "I want my father back, you son of a bitch.", he said it felt as though he had actually defeated his fathers illness, if only for a moment.
I know this is fantasy but this whole conversation and fight is my favorite scene in any movie to date just the level of respect and acting skill from both of them gets me every time
The music in the background really makes it what it is
Reminds me of Ennio Morricone - Mesa Verde
I have a deep respect for the acting, the character's motive, and his pursuit for justice.
And sportsmanship , class and having respect for his opponent :)
.....................so you’ve done nothing but study swordplay.......................:...
“I love my father.”
I love the way he says it. Gives me chills
This is a great dramatic scene, and the music really hits it home. Probably the best scene in the move imo.
actually this scene is not really dramatic, there is very little tension here. Its more emotional.
It is definitely some of the best exposition
Why Mandy Patinkin didn't get an Oscar nomination I'll never never know :(
Thank you.
It's right up there with Val Kilmer's Tombstone snub.
"Revenge doesn't pay the bills"
Wish someone said this to some other character who will not be named.
origamipein18 Okay, who is it?

I love the part where Montoya sits down next to Wesley and they just chat. Great scene!
Such a wonder movie...comical but deeply moving at times and one of Mandy Patinkins best performances...excellent swordsmanship by the way...this movie will always have a special place in my heart...hope to share it with my grandchildren some day....
I love Inigo’s calm “begin!”
Movies don't do this anymore.
Still do.
Some of them do. You just have to look for the right ones.
Inigo and Westley are so inpirational. I always watch "Princess Bride" when I'm sick, like the kid who is hearing it. (Yes, that's how much of a geek I am) I REALLY want to be sick tomorrow so that I have an excuse to stay home from school and watch this!!!
You know what... that sounds really nice.
I watched The Princess Bride for the first time yesterday. I can see why a lot of people love it.
I’m intrigued by the “You seem a decent fellow” exchange. Inigo is technically one of the “bad guys” at this point, lamenting he has to kill a good guy. But Westley counters saying (essentially) “You’re a good guy too.” Vizzini is such a bully to Inigo and Fezzik, they need someone like Westley who believes in them. ❤️
"You seem a decent fellow. I hate to kill you."
" *You* seem a decent fellow. *I'd* hate to die."
Like him meaning, "I like you, but you're not killing me today."
What a great movie People who hate this have no heart.
Wow, 27 years... Still Awesome!
Hello...My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father...Prepare to die!!!
How I miss my childhood, back when we didn't have to worry about jobs & bills & all that stuff :(
After this story I so wanted to see Inigo get his revenge as a child.
This movie was so well written that you can listen to it as a radio play, and it's almost as good as the movie.
Anytime I see a name tag that says, "Hello, My Name is..." all I can think about is this movie. :)
Man this scene always brings me to a stop in whatever I'm doing just to watch Patinkin and listen. Always felt he was the true character arc in the movie.
This is the best scene in any movie ever. Both of the actors portray their characters perfectly and make the scene very memorable
poetry. tell your father you love him everyday.
My most favorite part of the whole movie. The level of respect they had for each other when Inigo tells Wesley his story. Can't explain why. this part of the movie gets me so much 😢💖
I cried when I saw this scene
@@ksquareshow4480 yes and the beautiful music just adds on to it perfectly 😢 💔 you can understand Inago's pain 💔

Just found the movie on Vhs in the basement, ^^ going to watch it again. saw it all the time when is was a child. the music is really great and magically
"I've never seen a sequel..."
One of the best tales ever told through film. This is my favorite movie.
I was a soldier once. I wish people could reach an agreement. But that is not the way of the world.
As long as humans have been alive, we have always found reasons to fight each other
the next time I have the chance I WILL write "Inigo Montoya" on such a tag!
mandy patinkin has such beautiful eyes. i’m watching criminal minds and it just blows me away how i can see his young self in that show. he has these beautiful dark soulful eyes and i love them
God-fucking-dammit. Why can't they make movies like this anymore? That entire scene was pitch-perfect.
...
I need to see this dang movie.

@ Just Another Mike .... 4 years later... Did you ever see it?
Somehow CZcams thinks that this was Game of Thrones Season 8. Princess Bride is so much better than the last season.
My name is Daenerys Targaryen. I'm crazy or something now. Prepare to die.
Such a heartfelt scene... damn I love this movie.
This makes me strangely emotional.
This seen not only reminds me of a better time in films, but a better time in humans. Indigo and Wesley are both honorable fighters and in today's world Wesley would have been shot when he was climbing the cliff but indigo helps him up with the rope then waits for him to prepare and they chat, indigo even briefly handed his sword the Wesley and once again in today's world if you did that before a gun fight or knife fight you would be shot or stabbed right then. I know this will sound stupid but even killing was once civilized and respectable
Yes honor and respect for your enemy or even a stranger aint what it used to be.
For what it's worth, there was never a time like this. There have certainly been people like this in every time period, and every once in awhile they might have met up, but this is a level of romanticism that has basically always been limited to stories. This scene is a complete fantasy - one I love, and one that always makes me feel good, but a fantasy nonetheless.
Remember that Game of Thrones takes place in the same kind of "knights and goblins" time period and there's nothing respectable about any of the violence there. It's almost always quick and brutal, and often involves one character exploiting an advantage in another.
James Gardner im aware its romanticized but back in the time period honorable fighting was actually something many men held in high regard.
James Gardner You're right. Game of Thrones is a great historical source
LNBlack29 And the Princess Bride is?
i think there's a reason Fezzik and Inigo stuck and became as beloved as they are, and that is they were allowed to be vulnerable. think about it, in other movies Fezzik would be the dumb muscle who loves cracking heads open, or the bumbling idiot lackey to the villain. But Fezzik wasn't. Fezzik was probably the most compassionate character in the movie. He LOVED Buttercup and was very against hurting her, and he didn't want to hurt Westley either. He was clever about his words, and i think that was just Andre. not stupid at all, but possibly had a difficult time explaining himself, if that makes sense. he thought through what he was going to say.
And Inigo could've been the Punisher. obsessed with his father's death, bloodthirsty, cruel, taking delight in the murder of Count Reuben, all that jazz. BUT HE WASN'T. he was a deeply wounded man who was still that frightened 11 year old. he wants his daddy. He wants his innocence back. sure he still kicked ass, but asskicking wasn't why he was here. plus, he had the bromance with him and Fezzik, and he was very protective of his friend.
My dad got a magnet one Christmas of The Princess Bride and I was like ‘what’s that’ and he whipped out the movie and sat me down. Been in love ever since.
Initially when I saw this scene I thought it was quite hilarious (back when I was much younger). But now that I watch it, it feels me with such nostalgia, and not only that but I practice competitive fencing myself so it feels me with even more nostalgia. And the sword fight itself is just fantastic.
I haft to tell my dad I love him
This scene hits different for me now since my father was stolen from us by fuckin cancer. Mandy Patinkin used his own fathers loss to cancer as inspiration for this role..respect
I have that t-shirt. It's one of my favorites.
It's nice to know that Inigo Montoya is getting work nowadays on "Homeland." I think he's doing a tiny bit better than Westley, who just got done with "New Year's Eve" and "Oogieloves in the Big Baloon Adventure."
Let's take a moment to appreciate the fact that William Goldman was able to condense an entire chapter into a single monologue.
Do you always begin conversations this way? 😂
My father was slaughtered by a six fingered man.
"my name is river white......you took my sun chips.....prepare to die!"
that's what i will say to that student who took my sun chips when i ask, now i want revenge!
One of the greatest movies ever made.
Amazing amazing amazing
his GF: He didn't even cry while watching Titanic!

You're lucky you were facing an honorable adversary there, Inigo, because that was a REALLY stupid thing to do!
Wonderful.
I’ve seen this movie a million times and today I learned Inigo Montoya is Saul Berenson
"You wanna know how I got these scars? My father was... a swordmaker, and one year a six-fingered man appeared..."
the six finger man left me with this .....and this. (points to scarred cheeks?
yeah? well you see that?.......that's a thresher!! a threshers tale!! SHHCOOP!!
What a great moment.
I like how there just like "sorry bout this gotta kill ya"
This scene is true class and honor👑
Oh, my favorite :-)
Inigo and Fezzik both challenge Westley to a fair fight. Vezzini obviously wanted them to just kill him once they had the chance. He made the mistake of picking honourable men for his scheme. Westley defeats both of them but spares their lives. Vezzini tries to trick Westley and is killed.
A gentlemen's fight, indeed...
Want to know how I got these scars?
mohanjones123: I understood that reference.
As a kid I thought his was a Zorro film. Later down he years Zorro let me down. Turns out it wasn't Zorro but Westley. Such a good film!
now... I have to watch the movie again...
Henlo. My name is Senor Thiccboy. You roasted my homie. Prepare to get rekt m8.
Haven't seen the movie, this is still touching though! ! great acting truly
seen in a comment the actors real father recently died of cancer too... the feels
Absolutely! But you have to put the whole rest of the speech, too. :D
That Inigo Montoya and Saul Berinson are the same person still blows my mind.
What?! Domingo Montoya didn't slave over a sword for a whole damn year only to get paid 1/10th of the price! You commission a sword, you pay in full! Otherwise, what good are you to him?!
I thought paying x for a commission against the total of y and you paid for the remainder of y when finished. Z isn't a factor unless unforseen issues come like raw material shortages, equipment failure, etc.
@@chrismc410 Well, that wasn't the case here! DX
PB viewers may be very surprised to find that Mandy won a Tony for the Broadway musical Evita.
so cordial!
Miles Wright This is basically Ryuko's motivation in Kill La Kill.
"I will find the woman with the Scissor Blade, and I will say to her, *Hello. My name is Ryuko Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."*
Inigo also brought Count Rugen to justice.
RIP the prince of Dorne
OPPS just saw the next scene he throws him the rope. Mt bad> I will shut up now.
Inigo studied fencing for 20 years... and lost to a pirate/ farm boy?
To be fair, the pirates live and die by blade work on a regular basis through actual constant combat against other pirates/privateers, civilian crews and passengers willing and prepared to repel boarders, actual formal Naval, and Naval Infantry/Marines.
Inigo has formal training and dueling here and there with generally inferior opponents in comparison to his skills for over 20 years vs Westley's practical experience, constant practice in combat often under life-or-death conditions and constant "on-the-job training" can equal formal training and experience even beat him
I always heard Amigo Montoya
I always thought it was Indigo!!!lol
is the scene with them talking in the novel?
Not to mention, Inigo was on the first couple of seasons of Criminal Minds.
gr8 scene, sound is 2 low tho
Why is'nt there a Inigo Montoya movie?
does anyone know the theme song of this scene
jimmy alvarez "Guide My Sword"
Does this music have a song title? I don't think it's on the OST..but it's so so good
Jeremy Seinfeld Its "Guide My Sword"
If his father is named domingo, then he probably named his son inigo.
I just noticed that the cut rope is back intact. Sorry but I never catch these things. I was proud of my self. Sad I know.
No its still cut. Inigo unraveled more of it to pull Wesley up.
Anybody want a peanut?
Fox aired it in the United States and Act III Communications should've let them not only air it internationally, but also have a production role. Fox represents what Act III Communications owner Norman Lear used to be: a genuine and cooperative revolution. Unlike the Princess Bride's six-fingered man, it was better when All In The Family defended people who were considered freaks with anoxia-diagnosed stock boy George Bushmill. Norman and Rob Reiner sure were devolving at this point in time. Dad or no dad, reconciliation with Carl Reiner isn't worth disregarding the legacy of social evolution they gave the popular culture in the 1970s.
1 person prepared to die
I don't mean to pry, but you don't have two left hands?
i dont even have one left hand
no i lost my hand i a kars accident and this is a mechanical prosthetic
SuperUnhappyman Sorry. If I were you though, I'd get a hook. It may seem silly but check out OUAT sometime. It'll be much cooler.
Anyone else here because of the meme????
I would like to apologise to that guest whom I told years ago, that this movie was lame. It happened in a Hilton hotel, in Kensington, in 2007/2008. I only said what I said because, that time, I did not know the original title of this movie but the translated one... I'm sorry. The biggest mistake of my life.
👍🏼😎
Stop rhyming, I mean it!
