- A new Banksy artwork on a south London street was stolen within an hour of the artist verifying the piece as a genuine installation.

The artist confirmed he was behind the work - a traffic stop sign covered with three aircraft said to resemble military drones - in a social media post on Friday shortly after midday.
Two men were then seen using tools to take down the sign in Peckham at about 12.30pm.
The work was installed at the intersection of Southampton Way and Commercial Way, close to a zebra crossing, in the south London borough of Southwark.
It is understood it was supposed to offer an anti-war critique amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and the terror organisation Hamas in the Middle East.
The mysterious artist, whose first name is reportedly Robbie, unveiled the new street art to his 12.1 million Instagram followers, many of whom commented speculating that it would be stolen “pronto” while a large number added “Free Palestine”.
It is not the first time his work has been removed shortly after its creation.

Police are NOT investigating as the artworks not reported stolen - FFS. What about the fact they have stolen a public street sign, so as a minimum that's vandalism. And as its a 'Stop' sign...what happens if there's an accident....

Stealing a stop sign can lead to a long prison sentence. If someone is in a fatal accident due to the missing 🛑 sign, the person who stole the sign would be charged with manslaughter.
Banksy would also be liable for obscuring it in the first place.

Banksy himself may even have arranged the theft for publicity. This has given the artwork more importance and Banksy can actually sell it later as well. One of his issues is that his most famous works are no his own to sell. He's still worth millions but it must be a pain losing most of your art.

Yeah, I agree. Not Banksy himself but he arranged it. He loves stunts and this gives him more press and he gets to sell on his own artwork later. This is worth millions and someone would nick it in London.
Banksy as an artist probably no longer exists. His first 'art' was almost 30 years ago. I doubt hes still out doing parkour with a paintbrush.
@@dancoyle4535 - He is meant to be 49 years old. 49-year-olds are quite capable of climbing ladders. He does these in the guess of a local contractor or council worker.
However, I believe this is a fake stop sign. So it was done in a studio and possibly put up by an accomplice.
As I said above, he loves publicity stunts and so I guess the theft was arranged.
Unless it is on a real street sign nothing was stolen.
