Great content from and for ppl that are actually in business. I was tired of Solo videographers giving their opinion and suggestion about the film industry that most of then actually doesnt take part in. the scale of the production change completely Set dynamics. It creates hierarchy, work division and rules that most youtubers didn't actually mention in their content. Great work

Great videos, they are very informative! Do you know how Steadicam operators rent their gear to production?
They rent as a whole kit. Try to find some groups on FB or reach out to some other steadi operators. You don't want to undercut everyone because that makes for bad business for you and everyone else. It's ok to take lower rate jobs to gain experience, but make sure you raise your rates accordingly.
What mount and battery plate is on your TV logic?
In this video the mount is the Wooden Camera directors cage. Now I use a 3D printed back plate that I designed and put a baby pin on the bottom. The battery plate is gold mount.
I guess I am not understanding how “Crew Gear” is different than “Kit rental”.
Say I get hired to pull focus as as a 1st AC-I charge a kit rental for my focus pulling gear.
So then what would my “crew gear” be?

So generally, the "kit rental" is not for your camera gear. It's mostly for your camera cart or to cover expendables on short term jobs. Your "crew gear" is your camera gear like monitors, wireless video and Wireless focus that the rental house is not supplying, so they call it "crew gear" on their invoices. This is because you will invoice production for these items separately or the rental house will pay you out for your gear on that job. This can get a little confusing because it works differently for DITs and Sound Mixers. They will rent their gear as a "kit" because they are essentially the rental house and don't have to separate out their "crew gear" from the rental house gear.
Also, producers have different line items with specific budgets. For a 1st AC a "kit rental" budget will not cover all that camera gear. BUT their camera rental budget does cover your camera gear so that's why you invoice for it separately and its considered "crew gear" that is a part of that camera budget.

There is a FB group called Camera and AKS for sale. People sell stuff on there all the time. I've sold a few items on there myself. You have to be invited but shouldn't be hard to get in. Check that out.
