AC for reality television, trying to get onto commercials and narrative. Couple silly questions: 1. If you’re in a house with a ton of stairs, do you even bother with the cart that day? 2. Where does the cart live day-to-day? Back in your car or the camera truck? 3. How standard is it for an AC or own their own cart? Is there an expectation from most DPs that their 1st has one?

1: Generally we always use the cart but if it can't go inside the location we get it as close as possible and bring in the lens cases and set bags with all the necessary items. Or sometimes just leave the cart on the truck.
2: Day to day we get the cart as close as possible so that we can work off of it. We keep lens cases and other aks on there for quick access and always have a set bag close to camera.
3: For a 1st AC working on narrative and commercials, having a cart is a must. You can get a kit rental for your cart on almost every job. Always negotiate for it before the job starts. Having a cart makes the camera team mobile and able to work almost anywhere. It also makes loading and offloading from the truck much easier.
I just looked and that backstage cart is just over 4k i could probably build the same one with the same quality for alot less so i might just build my own.
If you have the welding skills, go for it.
What are your thoughts on the inovativ carts? Ever seen anyone use them on the sets you’ve worked on? I’m from Germany so they aren’t that common here.
I've seen them a bit. Mostly Steadicam, Gimbal and DITs use the. I don't know any Assistant Camera people that use them. They are pretty expensive.

The thing's got more cup holders than my van...nice. If you'll excuse my ignorant question, as I'm just getting into carts, what is the purpose of having a mitchell mount on the cart?...it mounts what?

How much do you charge for your kit rental? Ive heard 10% of the value is a good rule of thumb.
For commercials I get a $50 or $25 a day for my kit. Kit rental is mostly for the cart and any expendables you use. For long term jobs they will set a weekly rental.
My crew gear, like my focus monitor, are a cometely different rental. It's either done through the rental house who will cut me a check later or I invoice production directly.

What light is that?
It's just some cheap USB powered LED light I got at a Miniso store. I use a battery bank for it.
