If you're in the US, these pencils are available for preorder again! You can find them here: amzn.to/3dikfVy (affiliate link). The date of delivery is out to February, but everyone that has ordered on pre-order from the first shipment has received their pencils much sooner than their original posted date. Amazon uses this date as a "cushion" but if the pencils have a listing on Amazon then they are accounted for. Once the current shipment sells out again, then they will say "currently unavailable". As of right now they can be pre-ordered and you can most likely expect to receive them much sooner than the February date.
Yes. I seen that on Amazon. I was like "February, are you kidding me"? Needless to say UNTIL there is a much faster date I won't be buying them BUT I'm considering getting the Monarch collection. I've never tried a BW pencil before. I just hope they're not scratchy feeling on paper.
@@mignonalverson655 they’re. It scratchy at all. They lay down beautifully. The Monarch set has lots of beautiful colors and a few pastels.
@@PamelasPassionforPencils Ok so no scratchiness. This is good news. I think I'll get the Monarch set. The dragon set colors look good for a mermaid book I ordered. It's by Derya Cakirsoy. It's greyscale but I love her books.

Thank you so much Pamela for reviewing these pencils. Initially my feelings were that i wouldn't need yet another set of BW pencils, but maybe now I don't know so much. and my feeling about this is because I feel in the other sets that there are so many similar shades, and I wouldn't need another set that really replicated almost the original pencils. I often think that the more pencils you have the more difficult it is to make choices of colours. I'll have to have a good think about this, but as usual I enjoyed your really informative video, 💖

Pamela thanks so much for this video and THANK YOU for using dark colors so we could see them better. I have seen way to many other colorists use light colors which always leaves me scratching my head and a bit frustrated when I can't see them very well, lol.

They look beautiful!! 💖 You need to do more coloring with sets other than prismacolor just to give your other sets more air time!! 🌈 I know prismas are THE most popular, and you love working with them. It's just so sad that these lovely sets sit on the shelf all lonely and forgotten!! 😉 But most important is that you are coloring what you love with what you love as you rarely get time to color for fun. It is much more satisfying!!🥰

Hi Pamela, thank you so much for your thorough review. They are truly lovely and I considered getting them, why? "cause they are so pretty!" I even had them in my cart, pressed proceed and then did a re-consideration. They don't look 'dragony' to me. More like pastels with a few darker colors. I'm sure I can mix similar colors with the other Black Widows that I have. I have got to show more restraint! Thanks again, I really appreciate all that you do, you're awesome!
I agree they don't look "dragony". This set is a great set for botanicals. I can't wait to grab these colors and use them for a tutorial in Johanna Basford's World of Flowers!

I’m so glad you enjoyed the video. I’m working all day on arranging them into color family order. I’m about four hours in and still have a ways to go because I’m rearranging my original order to make it better. That video will come in the next week or so. Happy coloring!

Great video! This is the best swatching video of the dragon pencils. I love how excited you are about these pencils.mI’m excited about these pencils. The videos I have seen were mostly all negative which is a real downer. Fun video. I’m sorry but I need to point out that your pronunciation of sabre should be “ saber” And mauve is pronounced like the letter “o” as in m”o”ve. Sorry but the way you’re pronouncing it means “ snot” in french and the way you’re saying sabre means “ sand” which is nothing like the green color of the pencils. Sorry, I don’t mean to be annoying, it’s just that if I were you, I would have liked for someone to tell me rather than me saying the wrong thing all the time. That said, I love 💕 your videos. I love that you’re very descriptive, which is what I need. I know that after watching one of your videos, I will understand the tutorial and I will be able to duplicate it on my own. Plus, you are so sweet, I love your personality, keep your videos coming👍🏻🪅🎊🎉😘🙌🏻🎄☃️💘🇨🇦
Sabre looks like one of those colors that will change depending on what colors are near it. I just love it.

So excited to swatch out the 180. Since i just purchased all sets the sets all have the color at the end of the pencil (dipped) but do tell which set the pencil comes from and the color. I did swatch out already each set separately. Love the colors if I can just learn how to use them. I am also going to order the workbook today later in the day as we have a morning appointment. Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving! I spent mine mostly in the art room swatching.yes on some flower videos for this set.

Mine came from Amazon Australia two days after I ordered them! In a padded bag, in perfect condition.
I ordered the 2nd preorder for February delivery if not sooner, and then the Amazon truck stopped in front of the house, and my dear friend from Germany had gotten me the Dragon Set!!!! So I have it, and it is beyond gorgeous :D The tin did come mashed on one corner, but the pencils inside were just fine. One busted tip, but that's okay. And with my jewelry pliers the tin returned more or wobbly less to un-mashed. They will go into a big zipper tote once all the colors are re-ordered properly. Oohhhh what beautiful colors!!!
This was a very enjoyable video, and I definitely am interested in seeing a coloring of a Johanna Basford flowers & leaves page. And absolutely anything else you do with these delicious pencils. [The color Sabre may be pronounced the way you did it, but the spelling is a European variant of Saber as in sword, and would be pronounced Saber. I don't know which one the set wants used. So go with Sahbray--it sounds exotic!!! And the Dark Knight looks like the ultimate deep stormcloud when burnished--one of my all-time favorite colors because it makes all other color pop.]
I knew there were two different pronunciations of the word. I come from a Cuban background so going quickly through the names that’s just what came out. I’ve always know Sabre to be spelled “Saber” like a lightsaber in the English language. Everyone has been so quick to correct me. I do have people from all around the world that watch my videos though ai I’m sure it could be pronounced so many different ways. Im so happy for you that you were able to get a set of these beautiful pencils. What a wonderful friend you have. Happy Coloring!

I’m getting very close to done. It’s been a lot of work. I just need to finish creating the swatch sheets and checking on the correct order of the last few pencils. Then I need to film the video.

Did you ever make a video just using rhis set? I just got mine yesterday..my first black widows...sadly calm lime was missing, i got 2 grass blades instead. I sent an email to the company and i just wanted to exchange but they are sending me a second set! I can keep the first! A really nice man named albert answered me on the weekend! Im floored! Im saving up to get all the rest!! Thank you for your help. Im learning so much!
Albert is wonderful! I’m so glad he took care of you. No, I never made a video using just that set. I have a lot of videos using Black Widows but have always used colors from all the sets.
@PamelasPassionforPencils I totally understand about the pencils...I am trying to showcase the colors from the set, bit I'm pretty new to coloring and I'm having a hard time making the picture shine. I am in love with the black widow brand now. What 2 sets do you suggest I should get next, I color mostly Johanna and Lulu, animals flowers ect. Thank you for your time!

The Black Widows and the Brutfuner Squares are my two favorite budget sets.

As soon as I release my video putting them all into color family order, I will start coloring some flowers with just the dragon set. Albert gifted you these pencils, now we need you to gift us the swatch sheet for them.
I am working now on putting them into color family order. I am about 9 hours in and still need to finish the browns and grays. I am going to try to finish them up this weekend if I have the time. Then I'll be creating a customized swatch chart with all the colors in color family order. I have reordered my original order of the previous 144. I am much happier with the new color order as it comes along.

Quick question .. do you prefer black widows or arteza? Which is more enjoyable to use?
I haven’t pulled out my Arteza in quite some time. So, right now I’m really enjoying these. I would say that, now I probably like these more because I have so many colors now to play with. 😀

I live in the U.S. I placed my order on November 20th, and they arrived on November 28th. The colors are pretty, but I haven't swatched them out yet.
My Ruby Rose tip is a slightly different shade as well.

The formulas can be the same, but the pigments used make them feel different. A more Pastel pencil is going to be smoother than a deeper more pigmented color.
Yes. The lighter colors have more white in them making them softer. They do feel as though they're all the same formula though with different pigments to create the individual colors. My new pastel set from Castle Arts ...they are much softer than the original Castle Art 120 set because they have so much more white added to the colors making them the pastel shade that they are.
I didn’t check all my pencils, but my ruby rose has a different color cap on the top - just like yours!

I'm sure blue tongue was named for the lizard. Talking about bigger swatch boxes, I am in the process of doing exactly that. I wanted bigger swatches. I have to do all mine by hand as I dont have a printer or computer. It is a slow process, ruling a Canson XL mixed media book by hand. But it gives me something to do and it will look great when finished.
You're not the last one. I was supposed to have mine on 12/2, but Amazon screwed up my order and sent me disinfectant wipes instead. Now I have to wait until February. I'm soooo bummed. Glad no one else had issues. Enjoy your pencils.

My Ruby Rose is exactly like your pencil, with the end a different color. I love these additional colors.

Will these benefit anime and cartoon drawings on strathmore toned tan paper it’s hard to tell cuz there is no reviews with drawings 😭
What is your brand or favorite paper to use with your colored pencils including the intense... Trying to figure out what's the best paper because I like to color but the color pages aren't usually the best and I do not use markers I use colored pencils only watercolor ink tents or just regular pencils so if you can please let me know thank you and I love watching your channel and all your videos

If I had to choose between the two, I would probably go with black widows because of all of the colors. But, each one of them performs differently in different books and on different paper. I they are honestly both great sets, but I find that the black widows, work beautifully and many more coloring books.

They will change the ship date when they actually have the pencils to ship.
The Black Widow brand is inconsistent in labeling and lead hardness. It definitely screams budget, but does have many unique colors that Prismacolors do not have, so they do expand color options. The Black Widow set is the only set in which both the color ID and name are visible while in the loops in my pencil case. I wish they thought that through, but maybe they assumed most people would keep them in the tins. The tins are not easy to open, so having to manage several tins of colored pencils is inconvenient compared to using a case.
I love the way these color, but the inconsistent labeling is an issue. Each set is slightly different. I think the skin tone sets are my favorite since they have a thicker lead, and are color dipped on the ends... although the color dipping rarely matches the lead color. Still good overall.

I just got my dragon set and tbh I have to disagree with u Pam...the colors were so dry, patchy and ashy it was extremely hard to blend or even layer them...I was highly disappointed...I think they definitely changed the formula cuz they just felt like a cheap crayola pencil
