Hi Graham, growing weird or horrible at the ends often occur when the female cucumber is not getting pollinated enough while growing. Check inside the cucumber for seeds, if not many it could be polination issue. Leave all of the flowers that come out to increase the chance of pollination. I plant borage (not too late in some places) in my hoop house because it super attracts the bees and pollinators. The Yellow can be either from leaving the cucumber on too long (over ripe) or overwatering. Water when the surface soil is dry. I would personally pull most of the short wide yellow cucs off the plant and let the new ones keep forming further up the vine. If / when I get a weird end forming that is yellow I usually prune that cucumber off right then, again letting the energy and nutrients be directed up the vine to new growth. Also by leaving yellowing cucumbers (if they are overripe) on the plant it signals to the plant that the end is near and it will slow down production (not what we want). Hope this helps point you in the right direction.

Sometimes it could also be "bacterial wilt" spread by cucumber beetles.

Hi Renata, this is true, although I dont recall plants affected by "bacterial wilt" recovering with watering and less heat. I have also seen cucumber beetles leaving visible damage when they are eating the plant, so yes if there are signs of cucumber beetles and no recovery in evening with watering then mostly likely the wilting is from "bacterial wilt" . Thanks for the comment!

Hi Shawn, sounds hot where you are, if they rebound after it cools and or with water, they should be fine, if desparate consider setting up shade cloth overtop the area if able. Best of luck. Thanks for watching the video.
