  • Cape Verde is a collection of 12 islands off the coast of North-west Africa. Here, foreigners outnumber locals, and 9 percent of the country's GDP comes from expatriates. Cape Verde has few natural resources, little arable land and is prone to drought - just some of the reasons why many residents are desperate to move to greener pastures.

      It is so easy to come to that conclusion Agro, but it would also be wise to find out why they feel like that. When you have the Europeans go over there and build up be resorts, bring their monies to take over what the local people ancestors spent so much sweat and blood to leave beind, and then watch majority of the foreigners take over economically , and politically sooner and rather than later, you will feel like just moving on, you cannot fight capitalism. Historically Europeans and Americans have always depicted their wealths as a tool of oppresion (I like westerners , and by the way I like everyone irrespective of their color or race), take over African lands and start dictating their way of life.

    The only time when it's good to leave your country is if it's temporary and you're doing it to bring back new ideas from abroad. Bring those ideas back to your country, stay there, contribute to the economy as much as you can and help educate the youth. • @theinternetsavedmylife
      @theinternetsavedmylife Před 5 lety +14

      What is unbelievable is your lack of understanding of basic economics. Minerals mean nothing, what matters is what you do with it. Of what use is Gold? It's only valuable because people place value on it. And even when you extract the gold ore, you still have to process it -- this requires electricity. More than 60% of the African population have no access to electricity so how are they going to do this? The Government is inefficient and a vast majority of the populace illiterate and lowly skilled to attempt to design machines that will process those minerals. So they end up selling it. The problem with this is they buy the finished goods at a higher price (of course you can't buy peanuts, turn it to peanut butter and sell that for lower the cost of the peanut, that would incur a loss). All the little money they made from the sale of minerals gets drained either through corruption or consumerism. They buy foreign goods a lot and produce so little themselves so money still flows out and little comes in because the industries are mostly extractive. You don't need good roads to extract oil -- just build a pipe line. You don't need much electricity to mine for gold -- you can make do with an off site generator. The incentives for building infrastructure are simply not there so Africa doesn't have much impressive infrastructure. The way out is for African nations to produce and manufacture more goods not just sell natural resources. That's what China did (and BTW China has as much resources as Africa but they're aren't known for selling it now are they?)

    Cape Verde music and cuisine are highly regarded in Portugal and in the rest of Europe.
    They are a creole people that brings Europe and Africa together but there are socialist forces that want to SocialAfricanize them to ruin everything they have achieved with their own sweat and blood.
    It is Portugal and the European Union that have to support those that make an effort and achieve something rather to help those who do nothing and seek for help.
    If the Cape Verdean sell their Lusafrican heritage they will loose everything because they will be selling their own soul but it is mainly Portugal that it is failing by not investing and supporting enough the democracy in sister nations like Cape Verde.

Also, that lady/her organization needs to work in hands with the tourism dept or hunt for local talents, empower them with basic funds or raw materials..find a spot round the tourist city and let them start selling their products there. A couple of my friends from Nigeria have been there on vacation n they say its really cool..they want us to travel there for my birthday so I search for the country on YT and stumbled upon this video.
