    I should mention at 5:44 that [_States to Show] should be assigned a geographic role as a state/province. Make sure that is the case and you will be good to go.

      I'm trying to replicate this for Custom Territories (my hierarchy is District --> Territory --> Zip Code) and it works only once. I click on a district, it drills down on it and breaks out the territories, but then the remainder of the US map becomes TERR_TO_SHOW (same as your states_to_show) and there's no way to select another district. Do you know if this only works if you're using the built in states?

    @Anthony B. Smoak, Thank you for the video; the region parameter created only populates the first region selected while creating parameter and other rows are null. how could i ensure all rows as values

      Is your _Statestoshow calculated field set as the geographic role of State/Provence?

    Anthony, Great video! I will more than likely watch several times to get the process. One additional question on the drill down and the region colors. How do you make a heat map by region with custom colors, that vary within the region by the defined region color. I have a 5 region map with specific colors chosen by that region's leadership, but want the states to pop within the region so managers can focus on the states with the specific color density they are looking for. Is that possible?

    Hello Anthony,
    I worked on geomapping at county level in 2020.4 version, it worked absolutely fine for me. When I sent the .twbx file to the client the connection for mapping is not being established (my client uses 2019.4 version). I just can't understand the reason. Tried everything, commenting on CZcams seemed to be the last resort. Your suggestion would be of immense help.
    Thanks.

    Hi Anthony! I'm new to Tableau and finding your videos very helpful. Is it possible to do something similar but with lat and long coordinates rather than states? I tried making alterations to your process to make it work for that application but must be missing something key. Thanks!

    • @AnthonySmoak

      I'm not sure I understand the question. You want to select a custom region based on lat/long and drill down to an area?

    Hi, the _States to Show has a little globe next to it - has that been created from "Region" or "State" through Geo role? I ask because when I first created the States to show calculated field - it shows as a T|F. I then played around with it - and I just can't seem to get the desired output of every other region disappearing except the selected Region / State....despite adding the Worksheet action as shown....Region Parameter attached to Region Field etc...Thanks.

    • @tableau179
      @tableau179 Před 3 lety

      Also - the "Placeholder" calc field is a dimension - you didn't mention that :)

      @@tableau179 Placeholder will work whether the 1 value is a dimension or a measure. Also make sure the _StatestoShow is set to the geographic role of State/Province. Thanks for watching and commenting.

      I'm having this same issue, where I can't get other regions/states to disappear when selecting Region. I've set the _StatestoShow to geographic role of State/Province and set up the worksheet action as shown but to no avail.

    Hi Anthony. As one of your subscribers, I am truly thankful for your comprehensive videos.
    Question:
    When I create Placeholder it is continuous not discreet like yours. When I place it on details it aggregates to SUM. Changed it to discreet but have the same problem.
    How do I take the aggregation off?
    Thank you.

    Thanks for the great content Mr. Smoak! However, I followed these steps perfectly and it is not working for me. I think you are omitting some information which is necessary. For instance, I noticed we have to make the _Region to Show Geographic, but I am not sure what else I have to do. I wanted to make it a little more complicated by adding a third layer: Region > Territory/ State > Lat/Long. Is that possible?

    • @AnthonySmoak
      @AnthonySmoak  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks for the comment. I rebuilt this from scratch and noticed that I should mention at 5:44 that [_States to Show] should be assigned a geographic role as a state. See if that helps on the drilldown and let me know. This is already in the description for the video but I've pinned a comment as well.
