Create a Stunning Advanced Dashboard in Tableau
Now that Tableau Public allows local saves, I decided to take it for a spin. My latest video is definitely not for the Tik-Tok crowd as it is a long form, deep dive into dashboard building. In this over-hour-long video, I demonstrate how to put together all of the visually appealing chart elements from a Tableau Public dashboard created by Dmitry Shirikov. I enjoyed looking underneath the hood and figuring out how to recreate it. Both beginners and seasoned analysts will have something to learn from this one!

Gov't fiscal analyst here, recently discovered our bloated financial database from the 80s has an SQL endpoint in the form of a DNS address accessible only inside the government network (i.e, within the VPN). I'm diving into the deep end on this. I've connected to APIs using PowerQuery, but I don't think this would be considered an API? Based on this video, I'm guessing "server" would be the DNS address, and "database" would be the database to be queried at that DNS address? Also, I'm totally going to be using this for production workbooks. But you'll be happy to know we move glacially, so a daily refresh automated via VBA keeps everything current. ;) Apparently they've been begging for people to use the SQL endpoint more but it's too complex for most folks so I'm forging new paths in trying to get this working. Thanks for the video, very informative!

Another way would be to duplicate the bar chart sheet as Anthony did. However, instead of drag and drop new dimensions to Rows you can double click the dimension you want to change out and write the name of the dimension to replace with. This will keep the formatting already applied to the previous dimension for the new one.

I hope that it doesn't go away completely, or at least if it does Microsoft could replace it something that its as equally simple. Perhaps the more people who know about and use MSQuery the less likely it gets killed by Microsoft.
