    Corvus Belli seems to be making a major marketing push recently. I've seen 4 sponsored videos from mini wargaming hobby creators I regularly watch this week.

      Hahaha yes I noticed the same thing!!! They got some really cool minis so I'm glad to have an excuse to paint their stuff!!!

      Honestly, I’m glad they did this. I didn’t know about them until like two weeks ago, and now I have two really cool-looking models coming in the mail. I do love Jimmy Workshop’s minis, but it’s nice to see an entirely different aesthetic.

      Seems like they are going for a market-push. They released their trailer for the animation-series a couple of days ago, and it looks good.
      I hope they find success, we need more player in the miniature WG market. And they earned it.

      I'm on board with it as far as ads/sponsorships go. They fit well with the normal content of the creators I've seen, and I'm going to spend way more time looking at their models in an educational video than I'm going to spend watching a review or unboxing. And each creator did a different video topic so it doesn't get repetitive to see them all in a short period - unboxing showcase/review videos are pretty much one and done for a model line which is rough for everyone who isn't the first to post.

    You know what they say: A sci fi mini isn''t complete without some classic bisexual lighting!
    Awesome rundown on an elusive technique Dana! I think this sort of ground level approach to NMM is much needed.

      Thanks so much Jamie!!! It's a tricky subject to approach but I'm glad you liked my take on it!

    Oddly enough I finally got over my hangup about painting in a NMM style by using TMM paints. Having a shiny paint helped me figure out reflections and using something like Vallejo Xpress Paints which are pretty matte let me add easy shadows.

    NMM has always been something I've struggled with, and watching "recipes" hasn't really made it easier for me. But I think I ended up slightly wiser after this video. Yeah, everyone mentions that you're painting the light as it reflects from its source, but having it visualised like this in black and white was much better at driving it home for me. And starting from (and completing) the mid-tones wasn't something I had grokked previously. Thanks, Dana, I feel like I actually learned something today.

    Corvus Belli really must have had a lot of JSA boxes laying around. I'm glad everyone is showcasing them, but every vid has been JSA (not that I complain since it's a faction I like).

    Thanks, Dana! This is the third time you unlocked a complicated painting concept for me with a single well-placed explanation. I never understood what the rule is behind the order of shadows and highlights on a metallic surface, but now I do, thanks to your insight about angles. The waterfall analogy is also great!
    I’ll save this video next to your ones about glazes and CMYK color theory.

    @theandf Před měsícem

    Really liked this video. It makes NMM approachable. On the other hand, I still find NMM artificial looking... to me it's a "painterly" technique for static dioramas; as soon as you move and pose your mini, real life interplay of lights clashes with the artificial highlights of NMM; it ends up looking cartoony to me. But this is a commentary on the technique, not on this video which is cool!

    Yas Queen, preach, to the whole concept of your video. I'm only 00:32 but I'm already cheering. NMM isn't crazy hard, it isn't crazy time consuming. It doesn't need to be flawless. Metallic paint + a dark wash is not a flawless replicate of actual metal either and people are still happy with it.
    Sorry, imma let you finish, but Beyonce had the best album of all time, of all time.

    Love your work lady, but this is probably one of the most raggety paint jobs I have ever seen you do. The edges are all pretty choppy and not smooth at all where it transitions from one color to the next. You have done much better work than this one for sure. Good practice job though.
