Great car! For those who say lots of plastic, check out the new 330i or X3. Tons of hard plastic all over. Atlas actually has more soft touch places😂 Regarding throttle input that's normal for most VW's. Just smoothly touch the pedal and then add more throttle. Go for the 2.0T and APR stage 1. Very quick SUV. Telluride nor Palisade can say that.
We love our 2019 VW Atlas SE with tech and 4motion. We have not had any problems with it so far, it's a great vehicle!
@jordy rozon yes that is usually the truth however with the newer vehicles and all the sensors and computers on them they can develop problems quickly. I have a friend who purchased a new 2020 Kia Telluride and they have had the car in the shop 3 times already with problems.
@jordy rozon that's not true at all. Probably have more problems actually.
To clarify on my throttle tuning comment - initial tip-in from a stop is unnecessarily aggressive. If you ever see someone squealing away from a stop light in a VW Atlas, it’s not their fault that 20% throttle roasts the front tires lol. After you get going though, it’s fine. Why VW, why?
To make their vehicles seem sportier then it actually is. Subaru used to do it too :(
I have this problem in my '19 Jetta.. The throttle is about the same, if I give it around 40%, the 1.4l turbo squeals the tires. It is kind of awkward some times..
Chrysler used to be dinged by reviewers for this back in the pre-bankruptcy days. Savage Geese says manufacturers do this on purpose to "trick" people on the test drive thinking the car is some sort of beast.
I dont mind the throttle response. It reminds me of instant power and torque in my wife's outback.
Most VW's have that. It's normal. All you need to is just slighty touch the pedal and then apply more throttle as you accelerate.
I really appreciate your comments and observations about the subjective aspects of the car i.e. how the car feels cheap. A car review shouldn’t just be a rundown of the spec sheet. Good review, thanks!
love the sound of turn signals
And you summed this vehicle up for me as well. I've always thought the atlas was a great looker(especially this year's model) but failed in its quality.
vw has always needed better quality but the atlas is selling well
@@bizzybezz I agree on both aspects
We just got our new 2021 se R-Line package and it’s a pretty good update from the 2018 se v6. And the throttle is a lot different from the 2018. The 2018 had a more sensitive throttle, but the new 2021 version we have is not as sensitive. Very nice. But a good review none the less.
That engine sound amazing, VR6!!!
Why does everyone bag the Atlas for it's interior quality. It's no worse with the Honda Pilot or Toyota products. They all use hard touch plastics in the same places and the last Pilot I sat in didn't feel nearly as premium as a comparable Atlas. If you're going to beat on the Atlas for it's interior, may as well beat on most of the class as well.
Bruh, I like your content. keep up. IM your new subscriber.
Great job!
I have a 19 SE Tech VR6 w 58K.
No rattles. Runs fantastic.
Maybe I’m just the chosen few.
Nice! My dad wants the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport SEL V6
Nearly at 200k subs!!!
im with you. the cheaper Atlas' i think are good deals but the upper trims are tough to justify with that kind of quality.
"I do think if you're going to be getting an SUV you might as well get it in 4wd" - Amen Brother. (I know not everyone needs it but when you've got 7-8 in of ground clearance and no AWD/4wd it just screams that you ought to be driving something more practical. Like a minivan or a sedan...)
There are tools in the spare tire well that shift around . I removed them and put them in a soft container. No more rattle sound
Keep going 👌👌👌👌👌
My friend's mom has this car
It's a pretty good family car
Was waiting for your next vid!!🤣😁
I'd rent one but buy or lease, probably not. Thanks for another excellent review.
I had a 2018 VW Atlas SEL VR6 4Motion that I purchased Sept 2017 and drove for 3 years and 50K miles. Essentially its best quality is class leading space but the interior cheap plastics quality started to really wear on me (rattles, squeaks, plastic trim dash) and I ultimately traded it in for a 2021 Lexus GX460. Much better quality interior and exterior looks, imo. The drive quality is substantial and weighty, like a bank vault on wheels. The Atlas over bumps and rough pavement was like grimace galore, even on the regular 18” wheels with more sidewall - felt so rattly and cheap. Driving dynamics on the highway were pretty good though. The Atlas has a lot of potential. Upgrade the suspension, add some weight to it, upgrade the interior plastics and that’ll take care a lot of the negatives. On the positive side, the VR sounds great when pushing hard and again the space is really hard to beat if you’ve got 5 people.
The *VR6 sounds so GOOD
That throttle response reminds me of the 07 Corolla I took my driver's test on. Was a nightmare
10:47 that music reminds me of Test Drive Unlimited main menu.
what a great game that was!
the rattle is caused by the seat not slammed into its lock when folded up. at least in my VW, indicated by the red plastic thing visible on top of the seat side
I own a 2018 Atlas. 4 motion, power and space are the highs. Low ride smoothness, not quiet cabin are the lows. You will find lots of hard plastic inside. They are good if you are using the vehicle to move cargo
Hey if I can put in a suggestion for a car could you try to do a charger or challenger RT I’m looking for one and can’t find that many good reviews and I love yours
I agree when you get up in price it does feel like a bunch of plastic. The new VW logo does look elegant and refined. I personally think the cross version looks better than this one though. I would definitely take a Telluride or Palisade over this. Just doesn't seem to appealing as it feels and look cheap on the inside. Great Review as always, almost to 200k!
The new logo is sharp - and agreed. Thanks Ari!
My mom has the 2.0t sel cross sport and I love it! I’ve never driven an suv that corners so well in my life. The 4 banger is a little disappointing but it’s adequate for everyday life.
The telluride is an amazing car, got mine exactly one year ago.
Would be interesting to see if the AWD doe not spin the tires on take off since some of the power going to rear or if on demand system may be the same? I hate buzzing sounds in a vehicle which probably comes from all the cheap plastic panels inside this vehicle.
I'm waiting for the all new Acura MDX that looks amazing and such a step up from current model.
I absolutely agree with you about the cheap feeling US market VW products. What used to feel like one step below Audi interior quality and driving comfort, is now a de-contented plastic tub with an utterly forgettable character outclassed by Korean and domestic makes.
I got exact same Atlas 2021 Sel R line so far no problems ..I had brand new 2018 Lemon prior to 2021 they couldn’t fix it VW bought it back from me and I purchased 2021 they are over priced like every other vehicle out there I do agree about cheap plastics but it doesn’t bother me at all it’s VW ..As long is new you are covered under warranty & lemon buy back law so drive and relax..no fix you’ll get your $$ back ..
Honestly, I don't care about "cheap interior." As long as it looks good and everything under the hood runs really good and lasts for a while.
Its a cheap VW so it's not going to last. You think they cheaped out on interior but not the mechanical and other stuff? Lol
@@gilboman I want something similar to this. SUV, good MPG, two row and similar look as this. What would you recommend?
You shouldn't accept a cheap interior if you are paying the price for a nice one.
@@khailils446 Any recommendations?
@@theofficialvontae Acura rdx for me
I'm learning to drive in a 2020 Tiguan, it's literally the same interior😂
(personal experiences below)
He's right, the steering is very light, and the throttle is pretty sensitive. The car I drove is a 2020 Tiguan SEL 4Motion (all wheel drive) with the turbocharged 4cyl. It gets surprisingly good mileage on Eco mode, once got high 20s (27-29 mpg) in mixed driving (65% hwy, 35% city). The car does have some turbo lag (it takes a second for the car to accelerate) but when it does, it accelerates pretty well. It truly doesn't feel like a giant SUV when I drive it, it's pretty light. Overall, it's a pretty good car (so far), let me know if you have any questions:D
I bet the marketing team tuned that throttle. So many automakers are caught up in chasing these false pretensions of sportiness with oversensitive throttle pedals, needlessly stiff suspensions, steering that’s too quick, etc etc. Just make it enjoyable to drive and make it perform its intended function well!🤦🏼♂️
Alas, consumers fall all too easily for these gimmicks. If they didn't, they wouldn't be there in the first place.
Exactly. I always hear people complaining about automatics not shifting fast enough as if that's the be all end all of transmissions. Smoothness, durability, proper gearing and quiet operation is far more important.
@@IKhanNot YES! And just make it responsive enough for the occasional highway merge and passing maneuver.
I came from Winding Road Magazine 👊
we currently just leased a 2022 Cross Sport, we love all the features it has put as of now with the state of gas prices continuing to rise. this car is definitely not worth it. not saying it’s not worth if the gas prices were lower but even the City/Highway on this car is not that great. But this car has a ton of cool features like the pano sunroof but the Gas mileage is not that great for a $40,000+ suv
Wished there was an engine bay shot of the ancient VR6
When will you be reviewing a Tiguan? I believe it's VWs most popular vehicles in North America
Cool
When are you reviewing the new Explorer?
I guess the only real pro is the size. The interior is very spacious compared to the competition.
When is another truck vid gonna drop ?!
Ram power wagon soon????
help me here, i just saw a crossover style Atlas in the parking lot earlier. This is more SUV like. Whats the difference
I wonder how this noise/suspension combo is on non-R Lite Models. I agree that VW needs to upgrade the interior parts quality.
My wife has the exact same Atlas. You all keep saying cheap interior, but I feel like I'm riding around in a fancy leather briefcase when I'm in it lol.
The interior quality is the same or better than most of it's competitors. The colors are all kinda the same which gives a lower impression of quality but I compared one to a honda pilot and the atlas felt far more luxurious.
So what would you recommend instead of this atlas.
Can you review the VW arteon?
What would you get then over an atlas?
a little ridiculous how the black top doesnt come with it. Changes the whole feel of the car imo
Volkswagen Altas is best car in the world!
Not a fan of this SUV, we have the tiguan and the touareg in the UK. Difference between the two being that the tiguan is slightly smaller than the touareg.
VW seems to tune their throttle tip in aggressively. I’ve roasted my tires on my ‘19 r-line jetta 1.4T countless times without trying.
Guess it’s how they like their power delivered? 🤷🏽♂️
Considering the size of this SUV (see 3rd row seating), the premium look and options, and the power it has, $35k for this is a bargain! SUV’s that are cheaper quality, smaller, and less powerful, are more expensive (see Nissan/Toyota/Lexus/Infiniti/etc.).
the size alone is a sell for this car, 3rd tow fits a grown adult comfortable
New nissan rogue 2021 plis
Can u plz do 2021 Honda Accord sport
We don't have the Atlas in EU but isn't this basically the same as the Tiguan Allspace?
Looks similiar sizewise
It’s more similar to the Touareg to my knowledge
Rattle every where for sure, other than that all good , at least 3.6 make me happy and this car cruise on the highway is pretty nice
I love your camera work and enjoy your reviews generally. My criticism is that you are too easy not critical enough, all of these cars can’t be that good. It seems like very few criticisms from you generally but here you are a bit more negative than usual so I’m assuming the Atlas is a POS.
good
Tiene sensores de reversa y delanteros
i am about to trade in Golf R 2018 for this what you said, in the end, made me think... but the streets in Puerto Rico are no good. i can't decide =(
Keep your Golf R!
This thing is thicc.
does it still have the fake exhaust tips? That turned me off last time I was looking. One of my diehard VW buds always said.. VW for cars, not trucks.. lol
Beep! Nice going vw. Beep! When u reverse
Golf r review?
How much is it for
11:53 Who wasn't looking at that? lol
🙏👍👍👍
For a relatively cheap family SUV, this looks great, it's just a bit of a shame the reliability on these hasn't been to good.
I was disappointed by the flat, hard, vinyl seats. Reminded me of a school bus.
It's not a cheap SUV
@@Operafiend22 And it's very reliable.
It's not cheap but the quality is on par with a $25-30k Hyundai or KIA. Gotta love that HMG vertical integration.
Like the size, don't like the cheap interior or reliability reputation.
I will say I love my VW, but the cruise control setup is a disaster. The old second stalk below the blinker was excellent. The new "on the wheel" thing is bad. I've owned my car for a year and I still have to stare at it every time, plus the buttons are small for + or -.
This was designed built and engineered for specifically for the American market
My mom has a 2018 version of this car
I almost bought that car, outside is so sexy that car i prefer the 2020 style, but inside is very bla nothing look right the but the steering week is very nice big inside also but very very very very best gas mileage , thirsty car in city 14 g/ m motor way 19 g/l and sit inside the car nobady else, but any time when i seen on the rod my eye on that car. I really like outside .
I would get the cx9 over this.
Gives German Grand Cherokee vibes
Is this what I know as the Tiguan allspace?
No, Atlas is North American only. The Tiguan Allspace is the North American Tiguan. We don't get the short wheel base Tiguan.
Love you and your reviews.. but this VW is so bland compared to the new Highlander, Kia Telluride etc.
The new Highlander is ugly af
they should made the horsepower little bit higher
I had a brand new 2019 Jetta GLI and both front doors rattled and something on the front passenger side would rattle once my foot was off the gas. The DCT made some weird noises both of my Audi DCT never made. My Mini DCT doesn’t make the noises either. Let’s just say I won’t buy another VW.
I hear a lot of road noise and the interior looks like fisher price plastics. For the price it is unacceptable to have such as lousy interior. And the intrusion noise is horrible. I would give 28K at the most, better off buying used. I normally don't have negative comments on this channel but I an floored VW wants to sell this junk to the American consumers. For the price I would go with the Honda pilot or Passport. Better quality, and will be less expensive to repair.
Sorry I dont buy Japanese .
@@calabriamia6307 ikr
VW is amazing they still sell the V6 in the USA
@@dragospahontu I just tuned my tiguan and added 40 horses. People need to stop crying
@@calabriamia6307 Japan is nice, but VW and other german brands have an enviable simplicity.
door sounds horribly cheap when closing it.
isn’t this 4 motion
Mine has no rattles whatsoever.
They copied Toyota because on the RAV4 XLE the lever to lower the seats in the same
I just feel like VW is cutting corners which scares me.
lol of course they would. I only have had vws but I realize this all the time. They cut corners, not just them, its just business. Look at dieselgate, the perfect example of cutting corners
it's been a while since you last went over the negatives this much 🤔 you must not care for VW press vehicles haha. I definitely welcome the harshness in your reviews.
He doesn’t have a bias with any of the cars he tests. I appreciate his honesty. The atlas is mediocre and quite garbage for 40k plus. It was primarily made for fat Americans, the Germans dont even have the model there. The golf is what a real vw is
@@pilotvanquish3886 oh you watch a little more this channel and you'll notice that he's gone soft. Proof is the Subaru reviews. The new infotainment is so bad and he didn't bash on it as hard as he did on this VW. Full disclosure: not a VW fan, but the Subaru deserved every bit of hate that this VW got and he was just soft on it. Probably smart since I bet Subarus sell a lot in his area and he must keep that good relationship with the local dealer.
@@pilotvanquish3886 Europe does have the Tiguan. Just not the Atlas, Jetta, and they have a different version of the Passat.
@@pianoplayer2516 I should of clarified. The Americans have the extended wheelbase Tiguan and the European market has a smaller one of better quality
Anyway, here’s the Telluride
Hi
HE GOT IN THE CAR BUT DIDNT CLICK HIS FEET??
After dieselgate scandal, I don't trust Volkswagen and other VW brands. I think, Chevy Blazer RS and new Buick Envision better than VW Atlas.
And you trust anything GM? After all their recalls and bankruptcy? Diesel gate was overblown and was for the benefit of the consumers bc you got better performance and mpg. Buick is dead, and the "Blazer" is sad.
Early
Idk if itwas my headphones but that suspension sounds absolutely horrible. That alone is enough to not buy it
This needs four wheel drive.. FWD is terrible for this size of a car and v6 engine..
First
Well. If you need more, and got the $$, take a Audi to impress more exigent viewers. But please, seems like that you steal too young to keeping mentioning the VW GTI. Different public for different teats ?
I cannot believe my 16 passat SE has the same cheap plastics as a 45k dollar suv. Shame on VW.
Don’t buy this!!!! My atlas is only 35k miles in and is 3 water pumps in and two check engine light incidents.
