Yes. Yes, it was. I would have figured they done it when they did those SNL Stays at Home episodes, but a proper studio episode works too.

Most sea shanty’s were actually about how much being at sea sucks and how they wanna go home.
And it's because of blathermouths like you - telling everybody that the sea sucks? that we had to introduce forced conscription with the king's penny.

well.. not exactly..
shanties were work songs used to coordinate the crew on the same rhythm to make the ship more efficient. the content didn’t matter much, but the call and response did, a lot like calling cadence in the military today.
this also means wellerman isn’t a traditional sea-shanty in that it wouldn’t have been sung during the actual act of sailing. if you wanna hear one of those, listen to randy dandy-oh.
@@jor.jasper I think a lot of jobs today could use sea shanty coordination. Stevedores would be the obvious candidate, but a few years ago, I used to work at an airport doing "ramp" work, and a lot of that job, especially loading and unloading baggage and cargo from planes, could have used sea shanties for coordination. I tried to make that happen, but my coworkers were very much not into the idea.

@@emmamitchell6391 and it was fairly common to have a wildly diverse crew. They didn't kill everyone from an enemy vessel, as they needed to replace any crew who were lost. Having people that spoke other languages aboard was also more of a need than a want.
