    I'm a 19 year old that recently started a job with a gutter company that pays me about 50k a year. I have 15,000 saved up already and I am looking to start my own business hanging gutter in the next few years once I learn the ins and outs and build more wealth. This guy is who I aspire to be shortly.

    Huge value in this advice. Im in my fifth year in business. Just last year I decided to switch to gutter cleaning only. I'm trying to figure out how to hire my first employee, and the parent percentage system is key. Some gutter cleanings take under an hour, some take 3. It simply does not work as an hourly position. This winter I'm going to further restrategize and build my clientele for a big year next year. Thanks y'all.

      Yeah, you just have to go out there and take your time quoting them. How long is it truly going to take you to climb up there and clean it etc. I would really recommend looking into investing in a gutter machine though. So much more money. You can make 10 times what you do cleaning gutters in the same time.

      @@jonny-b4954 a gutter machine, as in making gutters?

    • @jonny-b4954
      @jonny-b4954 Před rokem +2

      @@reyesjacob88 Yes. 6" seamless gutters (at least in the South and West) is the standard nowadays. $10-15k, put it on a trailer (another $2-5k) and find a supplier. Start a business, run an ad. Find a helper. Throw him $150-200 a day or whatever. Dude, we've made millions over the last 20 years doing gutters. And it's easy shit. Just pitch it to the downspout basically, and seal the corners. 5" is still used up north due to ice/snow. We bid at $6 a linear foot for anything over 200'. Count each downspout as 10' each. Multiple it by $6. The gutter cost $1.5 a foot. Plus another 50 cents in screws/hangers/caulk. Downspout cost $20 and you get $60 for them. 200' house with 5 downspouts is 250' x $6 and that's $1,500. You'll have $400 in gutter/screw/caulk costs. $100 in downspouts. $150-200 to your helper. $50 in gas, insurance, truck payment etc. And you've doubled your money. Take you 3-4 hours to install a 200' house that's 1 -story. It's hell of niche trade. And 50%+ houses have gutters. Or you could go make $50-100 a pop cleaning out gutters in an hour or so. That adds up too. Got to work a full day though to bring in the $700 or so you can make in half the time just installing gutters themselves though.

I'm just wondering for someone in the start up process, what's the most efficient way to actually pull jobs in, in your opinion? Is there a good way to advertise and/or pull in jobs at a steady rate? Is there other companies out there like angieslist that you guys would trust?

    Hold on, are we really celebrating the fact that this guy way overcharged on his very first job? Chances are, he hasn't changed and is still as greedy as ever. Unfortunately, in today's U.S., people are applauded for trampling over others to reach the top. I really dislike this mentality. He'll never be satisfied, and success seems to be defined solely by who has the most money in the bank, rather than focusing on more meaningful aspects of life. Instead, true success should involve running an ethical business, offering reasonable prices, and making plenty of money to provide for his family without exploiting others.

      Hire them based on their motivation not their past, train them to run the business, motivate them to stay off drugs, even if they leave they’ve done a great job for you, others will see your dedication and want to work for you. Above all else provide some level of protection with workers compensation and health insurance. I’ve seen way too many injuries in this field and it is no wonder why installers seek alternative pain management. This is a risky job and especially if they are providing for a family getting injured leaves them no room other than to mask the pain. It’s a viscous cycle but if you get a hand on it sooner you can really make a difference to people willing and able to do so.
