Floor is smart enough to not try to imitate Tarja with this. She brings her own style to the song. IMHO this song is so written to Tarja’s awesome voice. Love the song anyway
I disagree. I fell in love with Tarja's version, however, Floor is a much better technical singer and makes this version sound her own and in doing so gives Nightwish a different perspective. Floor is definitely the best thing for Nightwish.

Hi Curtin, you’re right…for any year. In the sixties fan of Stones, Beatles, The Who and the Kinks. Five years ago I discovered Floor in a Dutch program (The Best Singers, is on CZcams). Since that moment I am a huge Floorfan and discovered Nightwish ( and her former bands After Forever and ReVamp). Last year I visit three NW concerts and three Floor soloshows. My age? 71 years 😊. Waiting on ( I hope) 2025, the next tour of NW. Greetings from The Netherlands.
We here in Europe, especially in Germany, took care of making up for the American ignorance. Thanks for not caring: this gave use more time and attention with them. But hey - you got Taylor and Beyonce - they is also very talented. And they might even still sell ticket with Mickey Mouse on. So don't grieve too much. Next time.

Agreed , Floor certainly floored me with her superb singing Also a stunningly beautiful woman as was the bands other vocalist Tarja who could really sing, as well. The guys in this band sure know how to spot talent.

Floor versus Tarja, Tarja versus Floor - It's like a female version of Ozzy versus Dio!! If it has to be Floor for you then listen to Floor and the same with Tarja but, please, just respect each other!!
I wouldn't be as big into Nightwish as I am right now if not for Floor. I know a lot older fans will cry anathema, but Tarja can be a bit of a challenging listen sometimes. Floor is instantly accessible because you can instantly tell how amazing she is.
Update after a couple of weeks of listening to NW: Actually, I prefer Tarja's rendition of this, and also of Nemo. Both songs benefit quite a bit from her dark tone, as opposed to the more airy Disney Princess style vocals Floor used in this video.

You can hear just the way the band is playing and performing that they feel reborn...so much energy and fresh inspiration..they are happy...Nightwish is complete again with Floor..even more complete...cause...and this is coming from a Tarja fan...Floor is the ultimate singer for Nightwish..her voice has everything!

I always respected the talent in Nightwish, the band, the studio recordings, their live shows, and especially the incredible songwriting! What a fantastic, and talented band!!! And that is hugely commendable in itself! But wow, when they had the good fortune of what they felt was a complete and utter disaster, and turning that into Floor joining the group, they caught lightning in a bottle! Floor Jansen is an absolute bad ass! "No one" does it better than Floor!!! No one has her beautiful, her memorizing stage presence, and incredible vocal ability! Technically they're different. Tarja was almost perfect in her style. Floor is very close behind, but mostly she's way WAYYYYYY more versatile. If you wonder why they were so happy to have Floor in Nightwish, remember they wanted her to replace Tarja, Annette was only the second choice because Floor was not available.

Nightwish one of the greatest and most overlooked band. Floor is awesome and on top of her game with this performance. The performance is mystical and haunting.
Sleeping Sun was my intro to Nightwish and I will always love Tarja's vocals on this the most, but Floor is talented and smart. I love listening to what she does with the older songs and am always looking forward to what she does next.
Sleeping Sun was also my introduction. Floor is talented, there's no doubt about that. She has been a satisfactory placeholder. But I still stand by that the band will never be the same without Tarja. I hope she comes back one day. Hell, her and Floor together with Marco would be even better. I knew of Nightwish about 15 years ago when my grandson was singing and acting Phantom of the Opera, I listened to few other songs but never heard Tarja or Floor perform this before seeing Nightwish In Kitee in June this year.Awesome song my other fav is Ever Dream Wacken 2013 ,another older song performed by Tarja and Floor .

nah. floor is great on many songs , but there are some - like this one - where tarja's voice fits better. Dead;s boy poem is another. Her voice is more haunting then floor;s , which fits the atmosphere of the song better.
Tarja and Floor both bring their own lovely interpretation of the song to it. Floor's voice is more delicate and pretty in this recording, whilst Tarja has such a full and powerful beauty in the original rendition. Both are excellent.
I love Tarja's version forever but Floor always takes her time to find out how to make a song work from her, and here it's softening the gorgeous gentle first half into really feeling like a sea then putting so much power into the end. Her work is really a gift.
Of course I like Tarja's performance better, but unfortunately time goes by, it's not for nothing that Nightwish decided to do Floor. There are no alternatives to her at the moment.

Sometimes I wonder if I only enjoy older Nightwish because of a period in my life or the amount of time I've invested into listening to it. Clicked play above. Goose bumps. It's just better.
When we note differences, we compare. That is natural and good. It gets nasty when we start to put different value tags on people (T/F is "better"...).
Sabatons song "Christmas Truce" where this amazing woman sings the area in the end of the song brought me to this amazing band and singer!!! Just WOW!!!
I am 64 years old and have been a drummer behind 8 bands in my many trips on this ball of mud around the sun! They are ALL excellent vocalists in their own right! I feel blessed to have experienced all of them! I just hope they can find another bass player and vocalist!

I think it's to do more with the band moving away from their operatic style of music. Not just floor's decision to sing it differently.

Sleeping Sun was also my introduction. Floor is talented, there's no doubt about that. She has been a satisfactory placeholder. But I still stand by that the band will never be the same without Tarja. I hope she comes back one day. Hell, her and Floor together with Marco would be even better. Then we could have the best of both worlds. If I may ask, where did you first hear Sleeping Sun?
I consider myself a person schooled in lots of genres of music, however I am a bit ashamed to admit I have never heard of this band or Floor before yesterday. What a great voice.....the real deal

I knew of Nightwish about 15 years ago when my grandson was singing and acting Phantom of the Opera, I listened to few other songs but never heard Tarja or Floor perform this before seeing Nightwish In Kitee in June this year.Awesome song my other fav is Ever Dream Wacken 2013 ,another older song performed by Tarja and Floor .

nah. floor is great on many songs , but there are some - like this one - where tarja's voice fits better.
Dead;s boy poem is another. Her voice is more haunting then floor;s , which fits the atmosphere of the song better.

Tarja and Floor both bring their own lovely interpretation of the song to it. Floor's voice is more delicate and pretty in this recording, whilst Tarja has such a full and powerful beauty in the original rendition. Both are excellent.
Nightwish songs and Floor's voice pass through the ears and go straight to the heart.

I love Tarja's version forever but Floor always takes her time to find out how to make a song work from her, and here it's softening the gorgeous gentle first half into really feeling like a sea then putting so much power into the end. Her work is really a gift.

I am 64 years old and have been a drummer behind 8 bands in my many trips on this ball of mud around the sun! They are ALL excellent vocalists in their own right! I feel blessed to have experienced all of them! I just hope they can find another bass player and vocalist!

@@charliewade1057 I hadn't heard the Tarja version, so I just popped off to listen. Very nice, but I prefer Floor's vocals. Not a big fan of the operatic sound with lots of vibrato. For me, this version is better.
